2013-2014 Tufts University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Yeah -- sure is annoying. I applied to a couple of grad schools at the same time, and the attention sure is night and day. Zero contact from many med schools since August... and cards, letters, e-mails, phone calls, and event invitations from grad schools. Too bad I want to go to med school. 😉

I agree that it's super frustrating. However, most grad programs aren't getting 8000-10000 applicants. It would feel better if schools did a bit more prescreening before taking your supplemental application fee.

I'm a little confused by the concept of a "silent rejection." Does that mean we'll just never hear back...?

Well... to me, a "silent rejection" means that they 1) get your file, 2) decide after an ADCOM review that you won't be interviewed, but 3) don't notify you until the end of the season (if at all) that you were turned down. This is as opposed to schools like Brown, Dartmouth, Georgetown, etc. who notify you quickly after a committee decision.

That's absurd. 😡

I could not agree more, I would just prefer a straight rejection...

yea same...though it did make me wanna cry a little when uchicago pritzker rejected me literally a few days after i submitted my app...but on the brightside at least they didnt keep me guessing for many months! haha =P

Hey all... So I'm pretty set on matriculating to Tufts this August in the MD/MPH program.

Now comes the housing part... Ideally I'd be interested in a 3-4 bedroom place around JP (right on the orange line for a quick commute) or Southie (also under 30 minute commute). My budget is pretty low and I'm trying to keep it under 800 per person/month, which is definitely possible in these areas with some pretty decent places. I'd love to live with fellow M18s as there seem to be some pretty obvious advantages, so I thought I'd reach out to you all and see if anyone is interested in trying to find a place. I'm a guy and would ideally like to live with other guys but could be open to anything. So message me if you're interested and we can start talking/looking.

Hope everyone is doing well and good luck to those who are still waiting to hear back!

I'm a reapp and last year I got rejected from Tufts on April 5th (no interview).

Just do what I did and withdraw.. actually got that frustrated to the point where I didn't want to interview

Are IIs still going out at all? Only if someone drops out of a date?

Thursday is the last interview day, so at this point if you have not been contacted it is very unlikely you will get an interview invite unless if there is a last minute cancellation.

Rejected. Complete late july i think. Last chance to stay very local.
>3.9 s/c GPA, 30 MCAT
published clinical research, lots of clinical "stuff"
reapplicant here.

Same here. Oh well. At least we can scurry off to our acceptances elsewhere... 800 miles from Boston for me.

Just got "rejected" as well, but I was already accepted to the Maine Track so it seems like a weird formality to reject me from the regular track.

Same just got the email, another one bites the dust....

Sorry to hear about the string of rejections. Congrats to those who have acceptances elsewhere! Today is the last day of interviews so the committee is probably meeting soon (next week?)... soo incredibly nervous :chicken:

I wonder how long before they get back to discussing deferred candidates... I know the message said up until the end of May, but I hope it doesn't take that long!

I hope it is waaay sooner than that. I want to do the dual MD/MBA which starts in June. That would be a very frantic May if I have to apartment hunt/move to boston and start school in a matter of a week or two.

I'm sure this goes without saying, but aaany deferred candidates that hear ANYTHING please please please post about it. It would make some decisions easier to make...

Deferred here also hoping to do MD/MBA, and I applied for financial aid already.
Really hoping my neediness doesn't give them another reason to not accept me! Lol

Hey guys so I had an interview yesterday and Emily said that we would hear by the middle of April at the latest so those final decisions must be close thereafter if not done at the same time I would hope. Good luck to everyone!

Do most first years live on campus?

Not really. The dorm has room for about 20-30 people (I have heard rumors there be more slots opening up though), and those are generally all filled. The rest of the class is pretty scattered over the Boston area since the red, orange, and green line all run near Tufts, and parts of South Boston are in easy walking distance.

If you are interested in the dorm send in your application asap as it tends to fill pretty quickly. Otherwise your best bet is to start looking on the Facebook group for possible roommates and/or craigslist to look for a place.

Anyone heard back yet? From last year's thread it seems like calls started going out around this time next week.

Yay! Congratulations y'all!
Pretty sure I'll end up on the waitlist, but I'm still staying positive 🙂

My friend who interviewed on the same day as me told me that she got a phone call, but I haven't... does that mean I am rejected?

Not necessarily. They'll make calls into next week I believe. I have no clue what order they do them in, but from what I've read in past threads, there is no order lol
So good luck!! Maybe you'll get one on Monday!

The only confirmation I have gotten is a call...no emails...no status change on the online app page...is that usual?

From what I've heard, yes! I recall other accepted students saying that also. But congratulations!!! 🙂

Does anyone know how we're notified of a wait list or rejection? Email, status change, snail mail?

got a message on the application portal (not even an email) saying that I got deferred. Should I be sending a letter of interest?

Not sure if it does any good, but I went ahead and submitted an update letter. If you decide to, you can use the portal to upload a document and ensure that it's in your file (User Options > Upload Documents).

thanks!! I think I'm gonna go ahead and do it. I mean it's mid April and I'm deferred... so...
