2013-2014 University of Central Florida Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Wishing you the best in 2014 as you start your journey to become physicians!!! Many of you will get the chance to become Knights and help to build the nation's premier medical city to include medical education, research, and patient care. We've already hit some "firsts" but you will help to create many, many more: from a stellar top "match" to research and patient care milestones as we go through the next 5-10 years. It's a spectacular opportunity for those who have the creative spirit and want to be more than just another med student fitting into a never-changing "plug-and-play widgitville" process. Top match/step scores already, multiple clinical partners, and a spirit of collaboration among each of our clinical, research, and community partners will propel UCF to a top program. The state's focus for the Lake Nona medical city goes beyond our state and is intended to be a model of medical collaboration across the health spectrum for the nation. In 2007 it was a dream, within a short six years there is medical education, research, an large children's hospital, as well as over 500 housing units and many new apartments, stores, and restaurants. This year the nation's 2nd largest VA should begin to becom operational and I expect to see the beginning of a new large retail area and announcements of more research partnerships and further development of our UCF Pegasus Health out-patient clinical network. By the time the CL2018 graduates I expect all of this will continue to expand along with plans for additional medical education programs to be built adjacent to the M.D. building such as nursing, and probably dental and public or allied health-type programs. To quote a lyric from a song, yes "...these times, they are a changin'..." All of this takes the students, faculty, leadership, and community with energy and commitment. Man what a wild ride this has been.... and will continue to be! Are you savvy?? Happy 2014 ya'll!!!!

Any clue how filled the class is, and how many interviews are still left to be sent out?

I hope you all caught the amazing game last night! Fiesta Bowl Champs!!!!
Not going to lie, though... The announcers were saying that the football team has brought great recognition to UCF's name. I think the medical city deserves a great amount of praise. I've been a UCF undergrad since 2010 and although I have attended nearly every football game, the medical city is what inspires my professors and classmates. GO KNIGHTS!

As a applicant who applied late in the cycle (secondary completed Dec 18), what do you think the likely hood is of getting an interview? I grew up in central florida and absolutely love the school so I am really hoping they get to see my application 🙂

I was in one of the last groups to II before the break, and I recall REL mentioning that there will be 30 groups to be interview. I was in group 18. I am less sure about how many seats are left. For some reason ~70 pops up in my head. Good luck!

Oh my.

I believe REL also said they will be over accepting this year, more than the 120 seats that are available. But don't quote me on anything I've said. Better to get it straight from the horse's mouth. Cheers!

Hang in there!! The next step would be getting in to the EFI pool. It's a process, all you could do is just let it play out 🙂

In the EFI pool! Waiting....patiently (kinda) for an interview. Hope I get one soon!

Hope you get the II wakeforestkid12 and others still in EFI! I was in it for a while, I think 2-3 months? I hear back from REL in a little over a week, really hoping for some FL love. Can't stand this cold weather up north LOL...

Yep, he showed a slide saying something along the lines of UCF accepting 2.4 people per seat or something? I think almost all schools accept about twice the available seats.

Got the call from REL tonight (interviewed 12/6)!! I'm in the upper half of the upper third of the WL! Can't wait to get that official call, I'm so excited!! 🙂 I love UCF!!!

Got the call last night from REL as well. Accepted! I am incredibly excited about this news!!! I loved UCF.
I am OOS, was EFI back in September, and interviewed 12/9.

Yeah I've been in EFI for a few months... I'm really hoping for an II before the spring, UCF sounds awesome from what I've heard from all you guys. 🙂

totally happy for you, do you remember some of the interview questions?
Other than one or two generic questions ("why medicine" or "why UCF"), I remember being asked a few questions right at the onset of my first interview where I received little to no response or validation. I'm guessing those were "behavioral" questions and I responded as directly as I could with as much insight as I could muster on the spot. I felt pretty prepared for this type of situation after looking over the SDN UCF Interview Feedback survey results (http://schools.studentdoctor.net/school/ucf-com/survey/26) and over possible ethical questions (http://depts.washington.edu/bioethx/toc.html). Even though I don't remember any of the exact questions mirroring any of those ethical scenarios I read about, it served as great preparation for the interviews.
Other than that, both interviews were largely conversational, focusing on my personal background.

Congratulations! I think we sat with the same medical student for the lunch portion - ophthalmology right?

REL,

I wasn't sure if anyone has asked this already, but will there be a second look this year? If so, when might it be held? Would love the chance to learn more about the school before August!

We currently have Second Look scheduled for Monday, April 14.

Had a chance to interview and met a really friendly group of applicants. The two things the really stood out to me was PAC program where they will pay a ms2 to tutor/coach you if you find it helpful. You don't have to be struggling, you just ask if you think it would help. The other part was Dr. Kibble explaining the approach they took to the curriculum design and tailoring it to step1. They hired nbme to train the profs on writing questions and then all questions get vetted by multiple staff. We also got to see the actual score avg for each class that has graduated so far...

As a local I've been hoping to get here for some time and it's still my first choice, it's just a better informed first choice now.

Good luck to all my fellow interviewers that day, it was a pleasure to meet you

Would anyone know how many interview groups or seats are available? I read earlier that there were going to be 30 interview groups....

I might have misheard, but I thought this week was #20.

Yes! This past Friday was group 20. They are strict about 120 seats but good news is they have only filled about 80 and they offer about 2.2 spots per seat for instate and 2.7 out of state. If you haven't heard back do not fear! Lots of opportunity! Good luck!!!

Exciting news, as this is my first choice by a mile, and I only recently completed my application.

How many spots are left for interviews? I understand that they have 10 interview groups left, but I am sure they are probably filled? I have been EFI for about 2 months. Is there still a chance I'll get an II? 🙁

I asked UCF's admissions for advice on my application, and so did my friend. We both followed the advice to a tee. I'm hoping we'll get an interview despite being complete late.

I feel your pain. I've been EFI since September. Feeling discouraged.

Sorry to jump in guys but can anyone direct me to finding my dashboard and status? I received the complete email last week and just can't locate the email regarding my secondary application anywhere from ucf. 🙁

Hang in there. I was EFI in Aug and didn't get an interview until Dec. There's still time. And I seriously doubt the rest of the interview groups are already filled. No frowny faces just yet!! :poke:

appreciate the positive words.

This is posted somewhere (I think last year's forum, but maybe again in this year's). I THINK (but don't know) its in the area of a little over 1000 out of an applicant pool or nearly 4000.
Do you know how many of the 1000 they interview?

So, you just called them and asked them for suggestions? I am too scared to do that.

Hi everyone, congratulations to all those who have been accepted. I was wondering if anyone has created a Facebook group for the accepted applicants yet.

I'm a reapplicant, and I emailed them after not getting an interview last year. I got to EFI, but never went past it.
