2013-2014 University of Central Florida Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Got the call from REL today, alas, it was a waitlist notice. A little disappointed but not all that surprised, there were some very qualified applicants. Middle 1/3 or what REL termed the "fence". Looks like I'll be on the edge of my seat till the very end! :corny:
Best of luck everyone!

Has anyone been able to find the group? If so, mind posting the link?

Hmmmm....doesn't seem to be working for me. Maybe there is something wrong with my Facebook.
Just reduced from "secret" to "closed" ...I did send an email invite and that seemed to work.......pls see if you can get in now with downgrade to secret.....if not I can do email invites....

Works for me now! Thanks for setting it up 🙂

3.65 GPA and 32 MCAT, still have not received an interview invitation. For those of you who have been accepted (congrats of course), do my stats compare? Do you think I'll get interviewed?

Is your status EFI? If so, it probably would serve to ask what EC's accepted students have had. After speaking extensively with REL it appears that once you are EFI it boils down to your activities section whether you will get an interview or not.

in addition to what hothamh2o said, being in state v. out of state would make a difference.

to answer your question though, I've a similar GPA with higher (+4-8) mcat

Anyone know the length of time from the time you go into Eligible for Interview to getting the phone call? I submitted mine in November and am still waiting (1/18/14).

3.93 GPA / 3.95 sGPA
32 MCAT (7VR/13PS/12BS)

It varies, they either call to schedule you a week or two prior to the interview date or we get a "sorry, no interview offered" email after the last date is filled. From what I've seen prior, a little less than half of the efi pool gets interviewed.

You have great stats though! I'm pulling for you

I know it doesn't mean anything, but both my SO and I got AORTA status! Should I send an update on the going-ons since I submitted my application (got a new job, not much else)? Will it make a difference?

We were both AORTA last year, but no interview; I'm hoping this year will be different, especially since we followed the advice suggested! UCF and VTC are awesome schools, and I'm excited to be considered by both of them still, but no interview from these guys!

Officially Knighted!!! 😀 😀 😀 First acceptance!!! So excited!!! I'm sure REL doesn't get tired of hearing people try to control the tears when he knows he just told them all of their hard work just paid off and it is actually going to happen!! I absolutely LOVE UCF!!! 😀

congrats!!!

Has anyone gotten in from the lower 1/2 of the upper third?

congrats!!!

Has anyone gotten in from the lower 1/2 of the upper third?

If I'm not mistaken, on interview day I was told that if you are in the upper 1/3 you are in for an acceptance. If I'm wrong then I'm pretty positive the lower 1/2 of the upper third will more than likely receive an acceptance in the following weeks. Hope this helps!

Does anyone have any insight into how things turned out for the bottom half of the middle third? Was wait-listed at this beginning of this month.

Wish I was higher up, but still keeping my fingers crossed as this is currently my top choice!!

It's been a while since I interviewed but if I recall correctly, if you're oos you're probably out of luck. If you're in state it could go either way, but don't hold your breath. Wish I could be more optimistic!

Actually, it may be that the OOS move more than IS due to the higher cost. Also, it might still be early enough for him/her to move up the waitlist though it is rather late at this point.

Could be, but iirc rel said oos tends to get more aid for that reason. Uncertainty makes it all a guessing game though.

Are people getting off the waitlist already? How does that work?

I'm in-state fortunately so hoping for the best. When REL called me he said I had good chances I was just in for a wait. So I guess it's really up in the air. Wish I had a little certainty but I guess it is out of my hands at this point.. :/ Wishing everyone else here good luck though!!

after each meeting they reconsider everyone which includes the newly interviewed. The top get accepted and the waitlist is re-ordered. That's why some people have been accepted from the WL, and people are moving up. I suppose it's possible that you could go down the WL theoretically, but there's a bit of a "vacuum" at the top, where people get accepted and not rejected (yet).

^That is not true. Once you get looked at that is final and you get a numerical score and do not get re-reviwed. That score does not change and whoever has the highest scores get ranked at the top. Usually the top has a high score so when you get in that range you are likely to stay in the range/region of the WL.

^ True for most of the cycle except the end - meaning, you are probably moving up the waitlist later in the cycle between February-April due to an increase in lower interviewee scores.

Yeah I forgot about that numeric score. But I think the gist of what I said is right in that the list is reordered when newly interviewed people are added.

I wonder what my score was. Doesn't matter at this point but the quantitative analyst in me is curious.

I mainly meant the part where everyone is re-considered is incorrect. Bc I wish that were true lol. It would allow to send constant updates throughout the year. But rather you only get reviewed once which is why it is important to get everything in before you get reviewed.

And of course it doesn't matter now 🙂 And if you got in right away or early its probably close to 14 x 7

Maybe REL can comment on how people who are in the middle one third at this point in time have historically moved by the end of cycle (or if a lot of people stay the same). Because there's still a decent amount of people who need to be interviewed and added to the WL

求您把该面谈的先面谈再讲waitlist! 还有很多人配合上对方的医学院。

The II email states that Final Review/Departure is from 3:45-4pm. Would it be possible to make it back to MCO for a 5:30pm flight/or is it too rushed? Thanks

That will be tight. It's only 10min to the airprort but it's a busy airport

I think you'll be fine. You'll probably get to the airport around 4:30, which gives you enough time especially if you aren't checking a bag. If you are checking a bag, timing will be a bit tighter. If you end up cutting it really close I've had lots of success telling the TSA agent that my flight is about to leave and they let you jump the line...

Does anyone know about what time REL calls? 5 days left for me but I can't stop thinking about it!!! I absolutely loved UCF!

I think we interviewed the same day blonks, and yes, on the 29th I am going to be useless all day till that call comes in

We try to end by 3:45 and we intend you to be on the move between 3:45-4pm. We also have students ready to swoop you up and get you to the airport....I think you can pretty much count on being there NLT 4:15........make sure I know you have a 5:30 flt and we'll do our best to get you rollin.

Anybody know how many more interview groups there will be? Been EFI forever.... keeping my fingers crossed!!

If time is an issue, you can leave a little early. If I remember correctly, the back end of interview day was when we toured around the med school building. Another interviewer had a similar issue with his flight schedule, so he left early, after telling REL of course.

Awesome!! Maybe we could be classmates in the future. Good luck to you and I hope your phone call brings great news! I will also be obsessively making sure my phone isn't on silent or vibrate all day 😛

If you miss the call he'll leave a vm asking you to call back. He also sent me an email, so its not like you've missed your shot 🙂

Still though, wish you all the best of luck!

I'm waiting for the 29th call too! I'm going to be freaking out but I'll be working 7-3 that day so hopefully I can keep some composure haha
