Did anyone who got rejected (pre or post interview) get the "Additional correspondence" box/ tab ? Or does anyone know of anyone who got "additional correspondence" and did not get a fat packet?

hey everyone! i just recently got an II at UIC for 1/15! i am OOS from FL so it is a bit of a way for me. my interview is in Rockford and i'll be flying into Chicago. for those who are Illinois residents.. i have a question for you. lol 1) i've never driven in weather that gets below 40 degrees in the winter lol. i was thinking about renting a car to get around (since i will also be spending a few extra days in the area) but idk how the weather (snow/ice) will affect the roads. any advice on that? is it manageable in January ?

Congrats! When were you complete? Mind sharing stats? FWIW when I was there last winter the roads weren't too bad- they have a pretty good system to move snow and de-ice

Hello, maravilla, congrats on the II 🙂.

The weather is pretty bad in Illinois in January and if you have never driven a car on an icy road, it could be quite a challenge (also, the roads are so much better in FL than in IL). Maybe it'd be a better idea for you to take a bus from Chicago to Rockford? There should be a megabus/greyhound or something from O'Hare to Rockford. Hope this helps!
Wait what?? Why rockford?

There are four campuses for UIC COM: Chicago, Rockford, Urbana, and Peoria. Interviews can be scheduled at one of them and usually people go with the first available date, regardless of the campus.

The last two winters in Illinois were unusually warm, but I wouldn't count on the warmth trend to continue. Just as I wouldn't count on the cleaning crews, they are doing a good job, indeed, but if you are driving and suddenly there is a snow blizzard, the cleaning crews are of little help. I do not want to intimidate anyone, but it' always good to prepare for the worst winter weather, because it may strike at any time.

+1 ?

So I have been pouring the posts (this year's and last year's) and it appears that anyone who did not get "Additional correspondence" and got "final decision" stopped posting. Also since it seems to be a pretty well established indicator of acceptance I think that someone who did not get accepted after seeing "additional correspondence" (AC) would be surprised/confused/upset and be compelled to post about it. Since I have not come across such posts I think it solidifies the AC/acceptance theory.

I have put far too much thought into this.

:bigtears:U of I just say yes:bigtears:

Yes, I think that's a fairly safe assumption. Who wants to continue to follow a thread for a school that they've just been rejected by?

Speaking of which, I got the kiss of death "Final Decision". I'm IS, have a 37 MCAT and 3.8 sGPA. My app is otherwise good. Is it safe to say that there is a red flag in my app?

Decided to randomly check my status, I'm assuming the is a pre-interview rejection?

"A final decision was made on your application on . Please allow two-weeks to receive the correspondence in the mail. If you do not receive this correspondence in two-weeks, please contact the Admissions Office. No decision will be given over the telephone."

IS 3.5/32 complete early September.

So it seems that when the committee meets every third Thursday of the month they make decisions on both pre- and post-interview candidates. So if I didn't see a status change this past week, I shouldn't expect anything until the next adcom meeting (December 19), correct?

Although, looking at some of the stats of those of you that have been rejected, I'm starting to lose hope for an II here 🙁

How is the turnaround time from completion to II? I've been complete for two months.

i was accepted back from the october 15th meeting. i thought that after we received our acceptance package we would receive another letter in the mail in which we got to pick a campus?

has anybody else received this? has it been mailed out?

I was accepted in the same batch, but I haven't gotten anything else yet. The admissions office said it would be about 1 month from the time you accept the offer, so you might have to factor in a little additional time for snail-mail turnaround :/ but yes. still watching the mailbox like a hawk.

Sadly, this is not accurate. I had an additional correspondence tab and was rejected. I don't feel like digging it up again, but someone else with far more impressive stats than me (Ivy league or something) also posted that this happened to them last year as well.

And I think it may be far more common than SDNers in these threads think, since people who are rejected aren't exactly eager to post about it. As you suggested, posting in a school specific thread generally ends following a rejection.

Don't really know what happened as I thought the interview went alright.

IS 33/3.76

Moral of the story: don't count your eggs before they hatch/get your hopes up

Edit: I figured it out!

Do I look where it says "Current Status" ..? Mine just says recommendation letters received or something along those lines. Does that sound like a status update you had at one point?

+1 Mine says its waiting on letter review or something like that...

So if they made the final decision on the 21st, when should we receive something in the mail???

Hey everyone, new to SDN, but am wondering if there is a Facebook group for accepted students yet?

The group of 16 I interviewed with in Chicago on November 12th was told we would have decision mail before Thanksgiving. Nothing for me, yet.

Wait your rejection was post-interview? Your decision was made on the 20th but the ad com meeting was the 21st? Did you have the AC tab?

Rejected pre-interview by mail yesterday, MCAT 36-38, GPA 3.6-3.8, and OOS

Nothing for me yet either, I'm wondering if mail just got slowed down with the holiday

I interviewed on November 22nd and our group was dismissed at the end of the day without any information on the acceptance/rejection decision process and notification. Do you guys know when the school gets back to your regarding any decision post-interview?

can't believe nobody has received an acceptance packet yet? (for the november decision)

A string of people did in October. Don't know if you mean in general or just recently

Edit: I think I got mine last week of October

Have yet to hear from UIC but received a spam email to consider applying for their MD/PhD program. I take it this was sent to everybody at some point and it is not reflective of them being impressed with me? Am I right or right? Haha..

Came on here to complain about this. I got so excited when I saw an e-mail from UIC and it was spam advertisements. Toying with my heart strings.

Just called admissions about my status change (also 11/21) and was informed that my mail had been sent on Tuesday. I was told to call back if I didn't hear by next week. Aaaaaahhhhhhhh

anyone from October acceptances receive their placement cards yet?

Nothing in the mail today either, man they really know how to drag this thing out.

Do you know about when you switched from "in progress" to "in process" before the II. IS and similar stats but stilllll waiting.

Are you applicant in process or progress?

I have a similar Lizzy M score, but high mcat low gpa, complete 9/25, I was applicant in progress for a while but just checked - applicant in process. Now more waiting.

Sorry if this has been discussed already but I don't recall seeing it, does the date on top of the 1st page of your status indicate when your app was considered complete? I had my materials in by 9/25 but it says INFORMATION RECEIVED FROM AMCAS AS OF 10/29/13 up top. My letters and stuff were in way before that, so maybe it just updates every few weeks?

II yesterday around 1 pm! Complete 10/6. OOS 35 4.0.

Called the admission office and they said the letter could arrive any time from now until next Friday, hope you guys have more patience then I do.
