2013-2014 University of Illinois Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Received an II here today, will most likely (98%) not attend and will decline it shortly.. just have to enjoy it and let it simmer for a day.

So... I interviewed on 12/11 and I've still got "Decision Pending"... I'm starting to get nervous here.

+1...I thought they said they would get back to us in 2 weeks but it feels like it's been forever

ditto here as well. It's been a month since the deadline I received in the letter (Dec. 20) and almost 2 months since I sent the card back. If no answer by feb then I think I may give the office a call to see what's up.

interviewed in late october and still "decision pending"...

Finally got my site preference card in the mail today! 🙂 It was a little weird that it was dated December 5th with a due date of December 20th though :/

My interview was rescheduled from early January morning interview to this week's afternoon interview due to the blizzard. I received the confirmation mail in snail mail for the first interview but never got one for the rescheduled one (but the status page shows the new interview date). Can anyone upload a picture of the letter for afternoon interview at Chicago campus? Or just confirm the location and the start time? Thanks!

I didn't interview at Chicago but I hope this helps: http://chicago.medicine.uic.edu/cms/One.aspx?portalId=506244&pageId=13570244

Does anyone know if they are still giving out interviews. I completed my secondary in October and haven't heard anything. Still says "application in progress"

mine says "applicant in progress" not "application in progress". I was complete around same time as you.

from previous years thread, "application in progress" meant you were placed on pre-interview hold.

I received an II a bit ago, was complete sometime in October, I was at Application is in process for a few weeks before an II. Withdrawing my II, hopefully someone who needs it gets it.

Status just changed to "final decision", pre-interview. Bounced back and forth between application/applicant/progress/process so many times, I figured it couldn't be good. Quite disappointed, I was really hoping to hear good news. Best of luck, friends.

sorry to hear that buddy. Are you in-state? and when were you complete?

Its alright, doors are open, it just sucks when you are excited about certain doors that close rather abruptly!
IS, 3.8/3.8/30

Complete 10/20 (< submitted 9/20, but I had issues with a letter writer not submitting LoE w/ official letterhead)
application is in process --> applicant in process 10/22; then to "progress" 11/3; then to "process" 12/3 (should've gotten ii, right? hah...); then back to "progress" 12/9; then to "application is in process" 12/20; then to "applicant in progress" 1/7; finally "final decision" no tab pre-ii 1/28.

Much to say, I think the false hope in December of an ii is why I'm so disappointed. Not to say that the whole exchange theory between applicant/-cation and prog/proc is completely arbitrary, but ambiguous for ME? Definitely. SDN WHY YOU BREAK MY HEART?!?! haha.

Keepin' hope alive! just not in Chicago.

when were you complete? do you mind sharing stats and are you IS?

'Applicant in progress' for me .. Do people stay in this status for a while? Does it mean anything? I don't want to dig through this thread which is why I'm asking! Thanks. [:

yep. had that status since October.

That is probably what mine says too...I didn't look that close. I just feel like interview season is ending so I'm losing home. I'm a minority also, which they seem to love, so I was hoping for good news.

Got an email for a criminal background check this morning. Anyone else? Any word on what this actually means? My status page has not changed from decision pending, and no additional correspondences tab is visible yet. Could this be for another school? Btw I interviewed the second week of December.

Is anyone deciding between Rush and UIC?

all my friends chose Rush over UIC. I heard the schedules get messy at UIC because the class size is huge + other reasons. Too much details to type on my phone.

It all comes down to you and what type of environment you like better...

what are your thoughts?

Hi,

Current status: applicant in progress

Has anyone received a II or status change, since the last th meeting ?

If UIC actually were 30k/year in tuition for all 4 years than UIC would probably be my choice. But because the costs are basically equal (~280k estimated total), that isn't a factor.

Cost aside, location is basically identical, another non factor.

Clinical experience: I believe they both will provide great clinical experiences.

In terms of everything else, I just got a better vibe personally about Rush and connected more with its Mission and students. People at Rush just have nothing but good things to say. Also I am interested in Urology and Rush has a very notable program that I will try to get involved with as soon as classes start.

Overall I would be happy attending UIC or Rush, but Rush just gave me a better vibe. Now that I've been accepted to Rush I don't want to take someone else's possible interview so I will be withdrawing my application.

I received an II earlier this week.

...280k for UIC, is this because they add in the summer costs separately?

Still waiting on campus placement results. They are so delayed this year :/

Just got a status change to "applicant in process" was "in progress" since October. Not sure what it means...

Considering the adcom was this past Thursday or this Thursday coming up... May the odds be ever in your favor!!!

I hope this helps

********************************
START

I. Submit Primary.

II. Wait for the email from UIC giving you your login information for the Applicant Status Check site (usually arrives within 2 weeks of submitting your primary): https://mercury.comd.uic.edu/appstat

III. Login, and check your status in the second page. [At the bottom of this post I link to a program I made that makes checking your status as easy as double clicking your mouse.]

---

A. "Application Not Complete" = Secondary not yet complete.

B. "Application in Process" = You are complete. --> Goto C.

C. "Applicant in Process" = Your file is being reviewed, 3 Possible Status Changes:
1. "Select Interview Date" = You are good enough for an interview. --> Goto D.
2. "Application in Process" = You are not good enough to grant an interview yet, but might be later on in the cycle. Check back periodically. --> Go back to B.
3. "Final Decision Made ..." = You are not good enough. --> Goto X.
D. "Select Interview Date" (A grid of dates shows up) = Call and schedule an interview date, after which "Interview Scheduled on ... " shows up. After the interview, Goto F.

F. "Decision Pending" = File pending review at the next adcom meeting (every 3rd Thursday of the month). There are 2 options from here, depending on the month:
1. Before May. --> Goto M.
2. On or After May. --> Goto N.

M. Before May, 2 Possible Status Changes:
1. "Final Decision Made ... " --> Goto S.
2. "Decision Pending" (No Status Change) + "We'll keep reviewing you" Email (a few days later) = You are a good candidate, but not good enough to grant an acceptance yet. UIC will keep reviewing you at every adcom meeting. --> Go back to F.

N. On or After May, 2 Possible Status Changes:
1. "Final Decision Made ... " You are (very likely) rejected. --> Goto X.
2. "Applicant is Waitlisted" = Waitlisted. --> Goto Y.

S. There are 2 additional conditions from here:
1. There is an "Additional Correspondences" Tab in the upper-right corner on your status page AND you get a CBC Email (a few days later) = You are (very likely) accepted. --> Goto Z.
2. There is no "Additional Correspondences" Tab and/or you don't get the CBC Email = Rejection. [Note: This is tricky. The CBC email usually comes a few days after (1-4 is the consensus) the status change. Be patient. Sometimes, the email never comes, which might be because you already had a CBC done due to an acceptance at another school. In some instances, the CBC Email even comes after the snail-mail. If after a week, neither the tab nor the CBC email shows up, it's very likely a rejection. You've probably already received snail-mail by now alerting you to it.] --> Goto X.

X. "Final Decision Made ..." = Rejection ... Wait for a "Thin Letter" via snail-mail.

Y. "Applicant is Waitlisted" = Waitlisted. ... The CBC Email no longer acts as an indicator of an acceptance. If you get accepted off of the waitlist, then Goto Z, else Goto X.

Z. "Final Decision Made ..." + "Additional Correspondences" Tab + CBC Email = (very likely) Acceptance ... Wait for a "Fat Packet" via snail-mail. [Note: Sometimes CBC emails come after the packet. CBC emails also might never arrive if you got an acceptance to another school that also does CBC through AMCAS.]

FINISH

*** NOTE: There are no guarantees in the above information, since there is always the chance that UIC changes things up. Just always keep in mind that the above is of what has happened, and not what will happen.

**********************************

I want to add last year there was ONE person (as far as i know the ONLY person) who got the "Additional Correspondences" Tab and was rejected.

Just got a status change to "applicant in process" was "in progress" since October. Not sure what it means...
I've had had "applicant in progress" since early August. It's not in that flowchart people keep posting so I'm not sure what to think.

I submitted my secondary in November and I still have the "awaiting Admissions Officer letter review-" status. What does this mean? Have they not gotten to my file?

UIC emailed me placement results and immunization forms. chicago campus!!!

Just out of curiosity...when did those of you who received your placement e-mail return your site placement cards?

I received the card around december 20 or so. Was in the October batch of acceptances. hope that helps!

Can't say for sure but it was definitely before the new year. I was under the impression these decisions wouldn't be released till March (per a phone conversation with the admissions office) but I guess that goes to show how unpredictable this process is.

I was also in the October batch of acceptances so that may have helped expedite the process.

Thanks for your responses! I'm just trying to gauge when I should expect to receive my placement. I was also in the October batch of acceptances, but for some reason I didn't get my card until last week. So, it might be a while until I hear back from them.

Also got Chicago and was in the October acceptances. Sent my card around the second week of Dec. Idk why they didn't just initially send e-mails instead of saying they were going to mail us back.

Edit: for that matter I still don't know why they didn't email acceptances as well

Got my campus assignment! Finally!

Chicago M1-M4 🙂
IS/accepted in Nov

Assigned Chicago campus as well! October acceptance.

I actually received mine second week of January and sent it in bout two weeks ago so response was fast

I am quite confused with the flowchart...

applicant in progress --> applicant in process--> application is in process

I'm assuming that isn't a good prognosis, anyone have any input as to what this means for my chances?
Thanks, I'm sorry if this is repetitive.

the first two are kind of confusing... but from what I heard:

Applicant in progress - you are waiting for review (apparently UIC reviews your application multiple times, so it has to pass through two or three people before you get an II)
Applicant in process - you are being reviewed and will receive a decision soon (interview, rejection, or pre-interview hold)
(many students go back in forth between process and progress as they are being reviewed by multiple Adcom members)

ApplicaTION is in process - you are on pre-inteview hold =/
-- but it's better than rejection

Final Decision Made blah blah.... - rejection

Even if the meanings are confusing, I know this is for sure

applicant in process > applicant in progress
applicant in process/progress >> application is in process

I've been applicant in progress since early Aug so maybe it could also mean silent rejection lol
