2013-2014 University of Illinois Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I checked my status this morning and still has "Applicant in Process" which means you may either get II or denial.

So my status changed from Applicant in Progress to Applicant in Process today, from reading through the thread, it seems it is just an indication that you are going to hear soon, or is it really not that much different?

Honestly, it does not mean anything. I have historically seen people go back and forth, and it leads nowhere. It is all about if they invite you for an interview now after first pass of your app or put you in the second-review pile, in which you might still get an interview invite next year but less chance of it actually coming through...I know it's hard but hang in there.

Sure! UMed has definitely been one of my favorite parts of medical school so far, and I think it's just really getting started now.

So far, we've done a few seminars to help us get ready to conduct community-based participant research. We've also chosen community organizations to work with that we'll be conducting our projects with for the next 4 years. Basically the goal is to work with the community to identify needs and then work as a team with them to improve the community. Some of these organizations are directly health-related, but many of them focus more on education. UMed students' role might skew towards planning, carrying out or evaluating the project, depending on the individual project. Seminars also continue to help us understand the research process and the needs of the community.

So yeah, right now we're just starting out on the actual research process, but I've really been enjoying the activities so far and the group of people. Let me know if you have any other questions, hope that helps.

Thanks for the insight! Sounds like a great program to be in.

I have an interview on Dec 18 at the chicago campus... Who else is scheduled for that day?

I checked my status this morning and still has "Applicant in Process" which means you may either get II or denial.
My status stays the same "Applicant in Process", hope getting II soon!

AdCom meets tomorrow!!! If our applications are reviewed tomorrow, will we see an AppStatus change by the day's end? In either case, I will be checking my status incessantly...

IS applicant, 33 MCAT, 3.61 cGPA and 3.48 sGPA from a top 20 university
Secondary submitted 8/29, not sure exactly when my status changed to "In process," but I'm crossing my fingers for an II soon
Anyone with similar stats hear any word yet?

I am still on Applicant in Progress!!!! Going on three months even with strong connections to the school.

I haven't ever been switched to In Process- I have been on In Progress the entire time

Got the Additional Correspondence Box and Final Decision made so there is a good chance it means acceptance is that right?

Yep, that's what it (most likely) means. Congrats folks! When were your interviews?

Mine was on 10/24, I am excited but I will try and control myself gonna be a long wait for that letter

Congrats again you two!
It looks like the committee definitely reviewed the late October interviews.
My interview was on 11/12, and my status still reads "Decision Pending." I am hoping this changes tomorrow :xf:

Additional correspondence tab!! Interviewed 10/30!

got the additional correspondence tab. Interviewed 10/18.

Got this status change today, "A final decision was made on your application on . Please allow two-weeks to receive the correspondence in the mail. If you do not receive this correspondence in two-weeks, please contact the Admissions Office. No decision will be given over the telephone."

This is pre-interview, so I guess that means it's a rejection.
cGPA: 3.63
sGPA: 3.62
MCAT: 34 (PS/VR/BS: 12/10/12)
In-state.

This is soul-crushing quite sad. 🙁
What was your status before and how long? As of today, my status still "Applicant in Process", hopefully is a good sign.

i was accepted back from the october 15th meeting. i thought that after we received our acceptance package we would receive another letter in the mail in which we got to pick a campus?

I've been "Applicant in Progress" since about 8/1, I'm OOS and not sure what having this status for so long means.

can anyone help with this?

The acceptance letter says they will send out a Site Preference Card where we can rank which campus we want in one month. My letter is dated Oct 28th, so it still hasn't been a month yet. I'm guessing the preference card will either come early next week or after the holiday.

where do you see "applicant in progress"? I go and click supplemental application status and all I see are the green check boxes and "Your Application has been successfully submitted." Is that what changes to applicant in progress?

hey everyone! i just recently got an II at UIC for 1/15! i am OOS from FL so it is a bit of a way for me. my interview is in Rockford and i'll be flying into Chicago. for those who are Illinois residents.. i have a question for you. lol 1) i've never driven in weather that gets below 40 degrees in the winter lol. i was thinking about renting a car to get around (since i will also be spending a few extra days in the area) but idk how the weather (snow/ice) will affect the roads. any advice on that? is it manageable in January ?

When were you complete and when did you receive your II?

Hello, maravilla, congrats on the II 🙂.

The weather is pretty bad in Illinois in January and if you have never driven a car on an icy road, it could be quite a challenge (also, the roads are so much better in FL than in IL). Maybe it'd be a better idea for you to take a bus from Chicago to Rockford? There should be a megabus/greyhound or something from O'Hare to Rockford. Hope this helps!
