Interesting. Mine says that now as well. I feel like this is a "we'll just make you wait a bit longer until we give you the closed-file notification" kind of deal. Definitely a rejection, since there's not much time left for reconsideration... if anyone gets an interview after this status, I'll buy you a nice dinner at the Gandy Dancer :cigar: (okay, not really).

Complete first few days of July as well. IS LM 65-70.
 
I would assume this is rejection too. Expected. Not sure why they would interview someone from this group when they have deferred others that they already have interviewed. I can at least stop checking my app for them now. Good luck all.
 
Same status =/ Really wanted an interview but at least I know now =( time to work on moving on.
 
Ah, the wonderful hold status that I'm getting way-to-comfortable seeing from schools.

Oh well. Onto the next school! =]
 
I have a lot of silence from many schools. I'm of the opinion it is better to know than to wonder.

i dont think so. the status thing says still " open" but if they havent actually closed many files it is practically actually a closed file. no one on sdn has said that they actually got a closed file....so idk. its so frustrating how they're leading us on. its actually pissing me off.

Yeah, I'm just a bit grumpy that nobody here has evidence they they've actually rejected anyone :yeahright:... so we really don't know yet. 😵 It's currently all just a fluffy "wait another two months and then we'll finally reject you, as we don't feel like giving you closure after 5 months, because we like for you to wait at least 7." As someone else said, they've already put PLENTY of people on hold who were interviewed... and arguably they were better candidates than anyone who is still under review after so long.

I mean, really... I feel like they knew the minute they looked at my application ("wow, his GPA sucks!") that they weren't going to take me. That's my only gripe.

According to their Twitter, they've closed at least 1,000 files and, more likely, closer to 1,500 - 2,000 (since they had a couple days of "file closings" after they reported 1k closed).

I think a lot of schools like to keep their apps open just in case someone drops the interview last minute (ie got into a school they are dead set on going to) and they need to replace that open spot with someone.
 
Although I am frustrated by this school and it might be driving me crazy with it's emails and waiting, I totally trust though that this school would NEVER lie. If they said they closed files, that means they DID.
Just be confident about your application and be happy that you're still open for an interview 🙂

Alright, well like I said before... I'll believe that files are closed (and report back) when I see it. No matter how much I love UM, Mary Sue, and Ann Arbor, I wouldn't go so far as to say I totally trust or believe everything at face value (e.g., do I believe that anyone with a post-review "open" file will get an interview? maybe. Will anyone "waiting" on the waitlist get an interview? Not usually). It's our job as scientists to be skeptics and rely on evidence, right?

I'm not a negative person and would keep hoping for an interview if I felt it was justified. The evidence and historical numbers are just not on my side.

Well although I directed my opinion to the school itself, more specifically I meant the admissions at UM Med School. They won't lie about this. What would they benefit if they lie about it? They are actually not even obligated to send us any updates. I think a lot of people (including myself) have been way too negative on this forum although the admissions team have been working extremely hard and are actually taking into account each and every single application they receive. A proof for this is their tweets about reviewing applications over the weekend (last Saturday) Also, they could have easily screened out applications of lower GPA or MCAT as they already received thousands of applications, however, they actually looked at each and every single application. A proof for this point is the tracker that shows interviewing and accepting people of quite low GPAs and MCAT scores for the standards of this school. I believe I have enough evidence as a Michigan student to trust this school. I have my own reasons that I don't really have to share.
Lastly, if it makes people feel better, I have three friends who just had their files closed. So I can assure you they are not lying. Just be happy you're still in the game and have some confidence in your applications!
(ps. I'm not trying to be rude in any way and I do apologize if I came off that way 🙂 )

I was not suggesting that they were lying about anything, just that they were going through the motions of putting us in categories that mean nothing (what is someone on a waitlist waiting for if there hasn't been any movement off of it for multiple years? What is the point of an "open" - but no interview - status if they have already interviewed many people who were chosen above us and then waitlisted them [unless their interviews were terrible]?). It gets to be a very slim numbers game at this point where we're all in lists and tiers and whatnot.
I know it's a game almost every school plays. I have a TON of respect and love for Michigan and UMMS 😍. I know it's a tough process for everyone involved, and I am appreciative for all the consideration I have been given as an applicant.

Yes, just at 5:00pm.
 
I also got an email. The web site is down but safe to assume it's not positive news.

That's so odd. Mine says:

"Your application has been reviewed. At this point we are not able to offer you an interview, because Michigan is not ready for you. Your file remains "open" from 9-5 excluding holidays and is eligible for additional reviews, should we find someone capable of reading it and the fabric that makes up the continuum of space and time is altered in such a way that the modification gives rise to a rejeptance paradox, which is unlikely. In any case, final-final decisions for all candidates will be made the fifth week in February, as long as our marketing and branding goals are met. Thank you for your patients. Oops, patiense. No, patience. Whatever"

Well, at least it isn't an outright file close and we haven't been rejected yet. Can at least be grateful for that.
 
Yeah I got the crouching "open" file hidden rejection status. OOS complete early September.
 
I just got a "status change" email however logging in only nets me an error. Based on the amount of you that got those "pseudo-rejections" I'm not hopeful. Their twitter states "today was a light 10:10 tuesday but we did make a few interview offers" but I got my email at 5PM, not 10:10 so my hope is very low.

REALLY appreciate you informing us of knowing people who have formally had files closed. It's really nerve wracking not to have any evidence of that so it's easy to jump to the conclusion that "Hold"
is referring to the thousands of files that have been closed. Glad to know that it is not!
 
Finally got my pre-interview hold email! Not surprised at all, and surprisingly apathetic about the news. I suppose the feelings are mutual! :laugh:

We have very similar stats...and I just got the rejection. Ouch! My ego hurts a little but hey, these schools can't take all of us applicants, and inevitably reject some really cool people who will make great doctors. I'm glad that I've had other acceptances and hope that all of the other future awesome doctor rejects will also be heading to med school fall 2014. It's disappointing, as this is my dream school, but such is life right? Being a doctor is my real dream and that's coming true so can't complain too much 🙂 good luck to everyone and congrats to those who have made it this far. So long U of M sdn thread! Haha

I agree. It's sad that people have had their files closed, but it's nice to know that not everyone is being put on this hold. I wonder if they'll address how many people are on hold in the Twitter chat tomorrow. Hopefully not a (really) large number because that would make this more brutal for them and us.

I am downright baffled that you got a pre-interview hold while I got an interview invitation. I'm not planning to make my MDApps public until after May 15th, but you would laugh at mine for the most part. I'm still betting you will get into Pritzker or Yale though. I can just feel it.

I just want to mention that I was put on hold last year and then offered an interview after two months (and eventually received an acceptance with a scholarship!) I just wanted to throw it out there that the hold is not necessarily a rejection. If you were put on hold, there is likely something redeeming about your app that they might revisit at some point.

We leave the rabble-rousing and trash-talk to Ohio and that school that burns couches for fun (says the guy who may be at MSU for med school 😵).

I'm still annoyed at Ann Arbor for outlawing porch couches, though...
 
For people who were concerned/doubting whether files have been closed, people have tweeted about their files being closed. So being on hold might not be the great news we were hoping for, but it's better than nothing.
 
No hold here. Really surprised but it's probably cuz I wasn't complete until Oct.
