Anyone know of acceptances received after December 24th?

I'll be 21 when I apply. Is there an unspoken rule in UNMC's admissions that they dont take anyone below 23? That's definitely the vibe I'm getting from this table.

I think the table speaks more to how hard it is to get through a pre-med curriculum in 4 years rather than the adcom being prejudiced against younger candidates. Of the 15ish people I know who are applying to UNMC for 2014, I can't think of any of us who will be younger than 23 when we matriculate.

That said, I know someone who, a few years ago, got through the pre-med curriculum in 4 years, had solid work experience, MCAT, grades, etc. and had no problem matriculating at UNMC at 22.
 
Do any current students have any advice on getting involved in research at UNMC? Do people ever do any research the summer before M1? Is there a resource to help students explore research opportunities for the summer between M1 and M2?

I got a letter in the mail from the Office of Research about summer & year-long opportunities. I think they send it out to all accepted students so you should probably be getting one soon. It's funny b/c I got that letter,with the first line reading "congratulations on your acceptance", without having received an official acceptance decision. I called in and was told they sent my acceptance packet on Dec 19th. It was a delivery problem.
 
They met yesterday for the first time since holiday break and will continue to meet every Wednesday evening until mid-March. I agree wooglins, an acceptance tomorrow would be great. Every Friday afternoon at the mailbox will be anxiety provoking until that letter comes.

Yay! Congrats. I can't imagine how nerve-racking it was to get a small letter while waiting for an acceptance.

I also just got the same research letter. Unfortunately, it looks like we are on our own for finding someone to work with.

I got my rejection letter from here Friday dated Jan 9th. Not a surprise based on my stats. If you currently haven't heard anything, it's better news than the rejection.
 
Can any current student comment on the z-score system? Is it a total pain or not as scary as it sounds? Or did any of you guys who interviewed have tour guides/faculty who discussed it? My tour guide brushed on it but I guess I'd like more opinions on the matter. UNMC seems to be one of very few schools who don't have a pass/fail system.
 
No acceptances this past Friday (1-10)? Hopeful for this Friday.
 
Most people around the Omaha area seem to get their letters on Friday afternoon since the AdCom meets on Wednesdays. Some people seem to get them Saturday or Monday based on previous threads. So I'm not positive.
 
Good to know OllopaMed. At least the Adcom is moving along. Many still anxiously awaiting decisions.

Interviewed 10/11. Still waiting.... waiting... and waiting....
 
I'm with you humble...interviewed 10/18. Still waiting. It seems interviewing earlier does nothing and it is in an applicants best interest to postpone submitting their application to UNMC until the last possible second. This gives more time to shadow/volunteer or do other things to enhance an application. I spoke with the receptionist in admissions and she told me they choose applications at random to review. This makes zero sense to me (unless it isn't random and they just say it is). So if your are an early innterviewee and don't get reviewed until the end end of the cycle, I see this as a major disadvantage if the adcom has been filling up seats based on random file selections. Anybody know if this is actually how the adcom decides?
 
That seems like an awfully inefficient and strange way of doing things. I always assumed they went by interview date or by raw stats, sorted by excel.

I'm sorry to hear chillBob, were you under regular admission cycle?? when did you interview?
 
One more post guys, I promise... Anyone on here interview mid October for the regular admission cycle? If so, any response?

Understandable. However, I hope that the ad-com does not review applications once they are complete at random, because that seems unfair to the selection pool. If you accept some "borderline" applications early on, then others who were borderline but got selected for review later could be wait-listed instead of accepted.

I imagine though that the "borderline" applications are deferred and not granted acceptances until all other "borderline" applications are also reviewed.

The process made me feel like I was running for elected office, to say the least. There are so many variables that go into an acceptance that I feel as if it is sort of a black box.
 
Interviewed 10/15; Accepted & OOS; GL everyone! Have hope. It's still early.

My interview date was 10/18 of the regular admissions cycle and my 'original' acceptance letter was sent out on Dec 19th. They had to resend it though as I stated earlier... I got it today and it's postmarked Jan 9th. (So about a week to get out to the east coast if you're wondering about delivery estimations).

Anyone know if Gigi Rodgers will tell you if your application has been reviewed? Anybody taken time to email her?

I still haven't heard back either. Trying to stay positive, but the mailbox has become my arch nemesis.
 
Does anyone know if we will hear anything back after sending in our letter of intent and deposit, maybe with additional info/confirming our spot is held? Or will it just be quiet from now until March?

I sent my letter of intent and my deposit in December and haven't received any confirmation. I should probably check my banking account to make sure the money was deposited.
 
Ah okay. That makes me feel a lot better. : )
