Hey! I'm in a bit of a rush, so I'll write a stream of consciousness - please excuse any grammatical/spelling errors 🙂 I interviewed in mid-September. We all arrived at 8 am, had an introductory talk by Joni (she was so sweet and made us feel so welcome), and interviews promptly began after that! I was actually surprised that we were starting so soon, so if you do have an 8 am interview, make sure you're ready because you will have both of your interviews completed before lunch. Room is stocked with cookies, water, and tea (no coffee) for snacks.
Two one-on-one, open-file interviews with faculty members. One adcom member who will speak for you during the meeting/voting process and one whom I think simply sends his note. You will be told exactly whom you're interviewing with and will be given the opportunity to look up your interviewers in a book they have in the room. However! The book isn't always complete.
Interviews are really relaxed - the interviewers are SO nice and it's hard to get a good read on how they feel, since they're naturally just such nice and kind people! First interview - 35 minutes, second interview with adcom - probably closer to 45-60 min. It's difficult to remember specific questions, but both of them asked why UNC. Most questions came from the application - what the experience was like, what I learned from it. I was asked a few curveballs, like "what is disease vs. what is health," but other than that it was pretty basic, like why I would come to UNC even though I'm currently living in a big city, and where I saw my career going and how UNC could help me. There were by far my most conversational interviews.
After our interviews were over, we had lunch (good sandwich + apple + water), then went on our tour. We saw a good portion of the facilities, but not the hospital. We had a pretty intimate look at the simulation center where we got to actually touch/work with the simulation dolls! The MBRB was beautiful. All the students were so nice and, honestly, all the interviewees were awesome too, leaving me with very positive vibes from UNC. Anyway, I hope this helps - let me know if you have any more questions!
