2013-2014 University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I doubt there is much significance to who your adcom was, but I had Dr. Detwiler.

Thinking about calling admissions and asking about the lengthy decisions timeline (10 weeks for me). At the same time, I'm not sure what that call would really accomplish.

Interviewed Oct 2. 4th time reapplicant IS. Interviewed each time I have applied, hopefully I can get over the hump this time.

Sending good vibes your way man, no doubt you will get it this time. Any idea what held you back before?

Thanks man. I have a good GPA, great LOR's, and extensive clinical and community service. Mediocre MCAT and DWI charge during my second application cycle was a major setback which took a long time to resolve. Nobody is perfect but you live and learn. A couple of acceptances so far, so this must be my year. Good luck to everyone else. If you want it bad enough, it WILL happen. Keep the faith.

With an 80% yield, the waitlist is pretty much a death sentence anyway.

Same boat here. Let me know what they say if you call :/

Have any OOSers received acceptances yet? I have a feeling that they wait a while before admitting OOS applicants and admit IS first. But I may be totally wrong.

II earlier today! 🙂 OOS, LizzyM ~74, complete late September. Earliest available OOS interview slots were in late January.

Dr. Bashford for me. No word yet. Interviewed late October. Anyone get a call from him?

They don't wait for residency forms to go through before they make their decision, right? Anyone receive word back from Ms. Reid? I swear my heart went into my stomach when she called me the other day and I saw "919" flash up on my phone!!!

Just got the call from Dr. Gettes!!!! Ahhh so excited. I interviewed on 9/17, so there's definitely still hope!

I spoke with her via phone about a week ago as well. If you were interviewed as IS, you're instate for admission DECISIONS. The reason she needs the info is to determine if you are eligible for IS tuition, once accepted. So no, it's not a factor in the decision.

HUGE RELIEF THANK YOU!!!!

Hoping for a little Thanksgivukah present!

Just got the call!! ad com was Dr. Bright. In state. interviewed Oct 29. Good luck everyone! Hope to see you all next year.

Congrats to all those accepted! It looks like the every other Monday call schedule is out the window, so now I will have to watch my phone even more obsessively. Any accepted people mind sharing stats?

3.92 GPA, 34 MCAT

I just got a secondary. 😵 Two months after my AMCAS was verified. LOL.

3.6, 34, in-state!

Has anyone who interviewed in mid October heard anything? I'm starting to get worried...

yeah I'm in the same boat (interviewed in october). my friends who applied last year got their acceptances in december/january, so there's still good hope for us. keep your phone charged and ready

Thanks! Mid November. I'd rather not say the adcom, for anonymity's sake.

So some call and some send letters then? Or is it exclusively phone call?

From what I gather, everyone who is accepted receives a packet in the mail. In addition, some ad coms like to call the applicants to congratulate them. I think it varies by ad com though.

Anyone get any calls today??? I have 3 missed calls spaced 10 minutes apart from a Chapel Hill medical facility that happens to match the specialty of my adcom interviewer and I am freaking out. The place is closed now. No voicemail. I love this school so much! The anticipation is killing me!! 😱

Goodness, I will feel awful if it isn't but !!!! Congrats if you do get accepted!! You're absolutely owning this cycle!

I don't think that would be a coincidence. Congrats!

Thanks!!! :soexcited:I swear this cycle is driving me crazy. Every missed call, voicemail, and email has me on edge. I guess I'm just hoping to hear the good news whenever they call back! Oh how I wish they had just left a voicemail.

I received an acceptance call today. Safe bet that you can expect the same. Congrats (probably)!

Congrats to those of you accepted!! Would you mind sharing when you interviewed?

Just got the call!! Accepted!! (...Officially, haha). 😛

Side note, I feel like I was destined to miss this call. I had 3 missed calls earlier when I was in class and just now I had 4 more before I got the call when I picked up (I'm assuming this was due to bad service because my roommate and I swear my phone did not ring). Fortunately, my adcom didn't even mention it!!

For those of you still waiting, from the basis of the conversation I just had with my adcom, the admissions committee still meets on Mondays but calls go out at the discretion of your admissions committee member. Additionally, on my interview day we were told that we are likely to hear back within 4-8 weeks. I ended up hearing back within that time but do know of students who had to wait a bit longer.

Good luck everyone! :hardy:

Your ad com was persistent! Haha, but congratulations, that's so exciting!

4-8? It's been 12 weeks since my interview. Not feeling good 🙁

+1. Still holding out hope though. I know my stats are kinda low so I'd like to think that they're waiting to push me for review.

+2. Interviewed in September and haven't heard anything since.

Just FYI to everyone still waiting, it seems based on the previous 2 years there have been massive rejections going out during the Dec. 19 to 20th time frame. That's about 15 days away. Good luck guys...
