2013-2014 University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hahahaha. Keeping applicants in total silence for 12+ weeks and handing out rejections as Christmas gifts! I'm excited.

+3. I'd like to think they're accepting top applicants first and working their way back through, but that may just be wishful on my part.

I went back through last year's thread, and there was someone who interviewed at the same time as me (Sept) with my same ad com that was accepted at the end of Jan. So there's that.

Yeah there seems to be some Sept interviews that were accepted in Jan.

do they send out rejections pre-secondary? I've received secondaries from all my schools besides this one...

Has anyone been accepted who had Dr. Brice as their ad com?

Anyone get any good news yet? Hoping for the best tonight

A bunch of people were accepted last week, so it's unlikely the committee is meeting again this week.

They haven't been strictly following the 2-week rule so I was hoping for something today. Guess it's waiting until next week then sadly

Congratulations to all who have been accepted & received IIs this application cycle! I am an MS1 at Netter SOM, and would be happy to answer any questions you have about the school - admissions, curriculum, etc. Feel free to send me a PM. Best of luck to everyone who is currently applying!!

Does anyone know what the Admissions Office's holiday schedule is like? Namely if there's like a 2-week period where they take a break from reviewing applicants or anything.

Based on previous years/what makes general sense, I think they'll meet this upcoming Monday and release decisions, break for the week of the 23rd and 30th, and then meet again the 6th. And if not the 6th then the next week. But definitely once before Xmas, especially because mass rejections will start going out. 🙁

Hey guys,

With the possibility of upcoming mass rejections (Dec 19/20) what do you think of sending a Update Letter/Letter of Interest? I know it's been stated that the office doesn't often read anything sent in, but what about sending one in directly to your ADCOM?

My ADCOM was Rustioni and I interviewed late September. It doesn't seem like anyone who's had Rustioni has been accepted on here but I'm still somewhat apprehensive.

I would just worry about that being inappropriate/coming off aggressively to send it directly to your adcom (and doesn't look like anyone did that in previous years). Anyone else have suggestions?

I was thinking of the same thing, and called the office today. they said that they accepted letter of intent until about five years ago, but stopped because everyone sent them in. I think the best thing to do now is just relax until next week when the news hopefully comes out.

I agree. It could come across as trying to circumvent the admissions office. And it is a committee decision, so only sending it to your adcom means it won't be in your file.

I interviewed last week. They will meet one more time this month (this upcoming Monday) and then take a break for the holidays. They also said they either meet every 1st and 3rd Monday, or every 2nd and 4th Monday in a given month.

Fafsa email number 6! I'm gonna assume it's because they REALLY REALLY like my application -__-

Hey guys,

Thank you for responding. You guys have some really great points. Even though it is really difficult to wait patiently, I do agree that it is the best option at this time. Thanks again.

Good luck!

What about the residency forms? I mailed mine in a couple weeks ago. I don't think they inform applicants if they're received.
Since they don't play a factor in the admission, I wouldn't worry about it until after having received an acceptance.

+1. Still holding out hope though. I know my stats are kinda low so I'd like to think that they're waiting to push me for review.
Do you mind sharing your stats? I think mine are kinda low too but I'm still holding out for an II

hey, I got my acceptance call about 1-2 weeks ago (Interviewed late September). Does anyone know if they send out an admissions packet pretty soon after? I'm hoping for more information on housing and deposit deadlines...

I got my acceptance call during the first week of December and received my packet earlier this past week (to my AMCAS address). There is a 2 week deadline for the deposit ($100) from the date of receipt of your admissions packet. According to the postage, my packet was mailed out a few days after receiving my call. If you don't receive your packet by Monday, I would call...

I interviewed around a month ago and I'm also really hoping for some good news tonight, though I'm guessing that may be a little far-fetched.

So I live in the area and wanted to get other people's feelings on this... what did you all think of Chapel Hill? I come from a really small town originally, got accepted to ATSU-KCOM and find CH really off-putting in comparison. I actively dislike all the crowding on the streets, the traffic, and the beggars are everywhere. A friend of our's got robbed there in the middle of the day. The area is giving me real pause about the school; I'm worried I'll be miserable there.

Terrible place, everyone with an acceptance should withdraw immediately!:naughty:
