2013-2014 University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
There's only one page in my packet personalized with my name, and that doesn't have a PID, and the website says it can't locate a PID for me. Harrumph. Time to call IT...

From what I read on previous year's threads, the general consensus is that the wait list is roughly 35 people. However, UNC gives out more acceptances than spots before making the wait list and the wait list is only utilized once enough people have dropped to bring the number of offers back below the size of the class. It also said the wait list is not ranked and the Dean has the final decision on who gets in off the wait list.

Thank you!

Well, my in-state residency got verified... thanks for the memo after the rejection. Really makes me feel better about paying out-of-state tuition. 🙁

That stinks. But, at least you have been accepted somewhere! Good luck to you.

Does anyone know if there has been any movement on the waitlist yet?

I haven't personally heard of any movement. I know from previous threads that movement usually starts after May 15th. Keeping my fingers crossed for myself and fellow waitlisters!

Hi everyone! I'm new here even though I've been reading these forums for months lol 🙂 I have a question about the May 15th deadline where someone can only be holding a spot at one school (that's how I understand it anyway). I was accepted at Campbell University School of Osteopathic Medicine but I am wait listed at UNC and ECU. Does the May 15th deadline apply to osteopathic schools? Ie - does UNC and/or ECU even know that I am holding a seat there and will this affect my wait list status? Any help here would be much appreciated! Thanks!

Who else woke up this morning staring at their phones in hopes that it would magically start ringing?

Does anyone know when financial aid information is typically available? I know we look on connect carolina, but has anyone gotten any financial aid info yet?

according to last year's thread, looks like we have to wait til end of may...

They told me it would be out before the May 15th deadline when I emailed them. I'm personally giving them until May 10th and if it doesn't come out then I'm going to call them and find out what the deal is. There are plenty of us who are trying to decide between schools!

It is a tad annoying how slow they are moving.

It seems like they would have to have it out before May 15th. How else would people decide? Hopefully it will come out any day now. I personally know I'm going to UNC, but I can see how that would be frustrating if you were still deciding. Best of luck to you.

So I’m realizing that my interview day notes from UNC are decidedly sub-par. Could any current students/second-look attendees/people who took better notes than I did answer a few questions for me?

1. What’s the pre-clinical grading scheme? (I think P/F with internal rankings, is that right?)

2. How much of the new curriculum is lecture-based, versus PBL/small group/etc.? How many hours of lecture are there per day/week on average?

3. Is lecture attendance mandatory? Are lectures available on-line?

4. What exactly do the Patient Centered Care and Professional Development courses entail?

5. How much time is there for Step I prep? Does the school provide any specific resources to help students study for Step I?

Thank you!!

3. No, not mandatory. Yes, available online to stream, watch later, speed up.

Question 4 and 5 is on the school's website it shows a complete calendar of the new curriculum along with step 1 prep (believe you have a month). Also, the site has descriptions about the PD and PCC classes. Pre-clinical is P/F with internal rankings. At second look it appeared classes start around 8am M-F with classes ending around noon or 1 and one day a week you have class till 5. If anyone see's something I have wrong let me know so I be prepared myself. Hope this helps.

only $1900/yr and rest are loans...anybody have different numbers?

Withdrew yesterday yall - hope someone on the WL gets my spot. UNC is absolutely amazing - good luck everybody!

THANK YOU! I pray that you are a white male from NC. The only way I'll get off the wait list haha. Congratulations on the success!

LOL....I don't know too many white people who would have their avatars as Malcolm X, but alas, as my MDApps shows, I am Latino.

If you're OOS you should choose a different school closer to home.

LOL not to be a Debbie Downer, but I believe the Dean said that UNC has one of the highest rates of getting people they offer acceptances to, to matriculate. He said it was somewhere around 80%. I don't know how this translates to waitlist movement each year, but I doubt that any OOSers who have already committed to UNC would be bailing at this point. The ability to switch to IS after the first year is an AMAZING perk.

That being said, fingers still crossed for those waiting!

Yeah, haha. The IS perk isn't really what's appealing to me as my current situation (sorry, waitlisters without other options :panda:) is only slightly more expensive. I was just hoping some OOSer gets off a waitlist to Harvard or JHU or something and I can slip in, lol.
