2013-2014 University of South Florida Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I think they do... They responded to my in the area email with an II the next day ^.^

Acceptance today! Thanks to everyone for answering my questions and all the support. Would love to answer questions, but am also interested in talking to potential classmates. PM me if you are accepted to USF for 2014.

P.S. Good luck to everyone still applying. I hope you all make it to the right school for you. And for those of you who are discouraged, this was my THIRD application cycle, all with interviews and no acceptances. It seems I finaly did something right.

UCI, so happy for you! Also, kudos to you for having so much perseverance, it is amazing. Congratulations!!!

Got the acceptance phone call from Dr. Brooks yesterday! I didn't expect the turnaround to be so quick. Any other 11/12 interviewers?

Hey guys,

Those of you who were recently accepted, have you tried to set your USF ID?

i havent received the acceptance in the mail yet. is the instructions in there? Also how long did it take you to receive the mail.

Had an amazing interview experience here October 1....Waitlisted about 3 weeks later 🙁

3.4/31 In State..Mother attended this medical school

I was offered an interview from OOS. I was just wondering when they weigh in the IS preference. Once you make the interview, do you have an even chance of being accepted? Thanks!

Is it for the CORE or SELECT? SELECT definitely doesn't have a significant IS bias.

There are OOS folks in the core program as well, but not as many.

well

i think its a decent chance I'm from california and was accepted last week. Also another person from my interview date also from california also was accepted. So if you were offered an interview they are definitely interested in you. By the way I was also interviewing for core program

Has anyone tried writing a letter of intent to USF? I know they don't accept updates to applications but I was wondering if anyone had attempted a letter of intent.

Yes, there are instructions there. I think we are not entered in the system just yet... It took me a little over a week, but I go to school in Midwest, so it should be faster for those in FL.

I would not recommend sending a letter of intent, or anything else for that matter, if you don't have an II. At the interview day they said sending an update would be accepted before they made a decision on your file (after the interview).

got a call last night around 6 pm eastern time from Dr. Brooks! I was lost for words because I was not expecting a call last night or even a call at all haha. They told us it would take 4 weeks to find out due to thanksgiving and holidays

in state, 30Q/3.76/3.77 science (pretty well rounded EC imo with extensive research, patient care experiences, leadership and volunteering)
Completed app Oct. 1st (sent an in area email oct 29 and received an invitation oct 30 -- coincidence? who knows. interview date ended up being earlier than when I am actually going back home to FL for vacation)
Interviewed: 11/19 (interview was the chillest thing in the world. talked about old school basketball with one of my interviewers for 20 mins. everyone was super nice. stress free day. perfect for a first interview)

i dont usually post on here but figured I should to offer some news to you guys. it was my first interview and i fell in love with the school. even though I have other interviews coming up I have a gut feeling I will end up here

good luck to all of you! its a great school. beyond excited!!!

II for CORE today!!
OOS ~3.6 sci and ~3.6 cum GPA. 31 MCAT. ECs include plasma center work, cancer research, hospital volunteer, ~50 hours shadowing physicians, Ochem TA, genetics lab aide, and some other little things.
Very surprised and very grateful. Now I have to regain focus for my anatomy practicum haha.

Congratulations!!! Do you mind sharing when you were complete and your interview date? Thank you for helping to ease our anxious minds!!

Just got an II. OOS. Submitted secondary in early October. Anyone know if they have any sort of host program where I can stay with a current student?

They do. I got an email about the host program about a week before my interview which is tomorrow.

I received an II today as well! 28/3.6 and heavy (6 years) clinical and EC, research, volunteer experience. I was complete 9/6 and am IS. I went here for undergrad and probably wont end up attending for medical school but I like to keep my options open. If anyone has any Q's about the area, school, culture or clinical sites (I've worked at TGH for 3+ years) I'd be happy to answer any questions. Good luck to everyone applying/matriculating!

Thanks. I submitted my secondary on 10/9 and my interview is on 1/14. Good luck to ya!

Does anyone know for sure if students out of state can get in state tuition after a year?

for those who received acceptance, did the admission officer tell us that we will receive a letter via mail but not an email correct?

Pretty much no.

Being a student doesn't count for establishing residency in a state. If you want to be considered a resident in the state of FL you pretty much have to work for atleast a full year. As well as switching other documents (car registration, ID, etc) to the state right when you move.

Some states require more than a full year too.

Florida only requires a year, but it has to be a year before your initial enrollment at school begins. Here's the relevant statute.

Do you know where they are with interview dates?

Thanks!!

Do you know where they are with interview dates?

I do not, they email the II and ask me to follow up by calling and setting up the date. I think they are out to lunch now but once I contact them and get it scheduled I will let you know, Ewelling!

Thanks!!

Do you know where they are with interview dates?
Ewelling, I was asked whether I was available for the 14th of January, so I am thinking they are just starting to fill up their first Tuesdays in January now for the CORE program. Hope this helps! 🙂
