Either he/she is trolling in this thread or the irony is unbelievable...U of Louisville is on probation too!

Was just going to say that University of Louisville's reasons for being put on probation are MUCH more serious than Baylor's.
  • Ganzel said the school needs to better define active learning in its curriculum and decrease the amount of time medical school students spend in lectures.
  • Ganzel said the LCME took issue with the school’s ability to compare student performance at its various clinical education sites,
  • Ganzel said the LCME wants to see more linking across instructional disciplines in order to provide more clinical relevance. Curriculum related to the cardiovascular system, for example, needs to be better integrated with anatomy, pharmacology and other curricula.

lol, I'd put louisville on probation for not accepting more OOS students.

Don't forget "The LCME review also noted that the medical school needed academic affiliation agreements with health care providers"... Reading through those citations, all of which are critically important contributing factors to the quality of education, makes the issues even more ridiculous that Baylor was cited with to be placed on the same status. It is like murder vs shoplifting having the same sentencing.

And apparently Louisville actually hid it from their students (unlike Baylor):

  • dickyv14 (signed in using yahoo)
great article, this is information that was not even given to the incoming class; a demographic that is among the most concerned.

thanks for going the extra mile to dig this up from the UofLSOM faculty.

I think Baylor was very forthcoming because of how ridiculous it is. When you first hear about a school being put on probation it is legitimately scary... but then you read why and laugh and then you see 10/14 are already "fixed" with plans for the remaining 4 to be addressed and it is just not a big deal anymore.
Like Dr. Klotman said, just go on with the day knowing the Step scores are ridiculous and the match is among the best in the country and realize this doesn't impact the quality of education at all.

:troll:
Student's from other med schools (Louisville in this case) bashing on another schools application thread. Pretty weak 👎

Not trolling and not attending UoL (although I agree that would've been funny). Just had an unforgivable interview experience here.

It's a great school and probably provides the best value in US medical education at the moment. Sorry for the derailed thread...

Secondary is open! Got mine in.

Edit: I forgot to copy the "special experiences" prompt before I submitted my secondary, can somebody do that? I'll update the OP with it if someone could be so kind.

Thoughts on optional essay? Can I use my challenge essay? I kind of want to use that essay and also add a why Baylor but that seems kind of disorganized. Thoughts appreciated. Good luck everyone!

Indicate any special experiences, unusual factors or other information you feel would be helpful in evaluating you,
including, but not limited to, education, employment, extracurricular activities, prevailing over adversity.
You may expand upon but not repeat AMCAS application information.
2000 character limit.

Side note: does it matter if I don't enter sat scores?
Also @gettheleadout happy 11,000 posts

I left it blank.* I have no special circumstances or experiences that I haven't listed on AMCAS already. I interpret "prevailing over adversity" to mean facing serious obstacles like family or own illness during undergrad or something.

*You actually can't leave it blank, I put "N/A."

Thanks and thanks haha! The answer we got on the SAT score topic in the WashU thread is that it's only used for research purposes, if you don't have it easily accessible don't worry and if you think it looks bad you can put it without expecting it to affect your candidacy.

Did y'all actually include your SSN on the app? I thought it was odd to ask for it, and I always get a little uncomfortable filling it out on forms.

I did, figured it was for background check purposes.

I put mine as well. If anyone at BCM wants to try to steal my identity, joke's on them, with all these app fees I'm broke!

haha. okay I guess I'll just have to suck it up and include it.

Sent my secondary in this morning!

Submitted my secondary today as well!! I used my diversity essay, since it discusses a big part of my life that was not well represented on my primary app.

Is anybody marked as complete yet? I got confirmation emails saying my application was submitted and my payment was processed, but my website status hasn't changed.

Can you still submit the secondary if you're not verified yet? Anyone have a link?

Received and submitted the Baylor secondary today! Verified 6/5.

Got the secondary email today...but the link is not working?? Goes to "error"? :/

Edit: It's fixed now! Just submitted 🙂

Errors page? Did they get all the secondaries they can take and cut it off? I got the error this morning, thought it might just be a glitch, but I checked again this afternoon and still no dice. What gives?

If that's directed to me, I'm not trolling. I get an errors page when I try to access the secondary app. I was just wondering if there was anyone else. Sorry for trying get some help?

I believe he was referring to the guy from earlier that commented on the probation.

The errors were site-wide. The website has been under an updating process and it seems like they just rolled out a big one over the holiday weekend, when traffic should be low. Nothing to worry about. It is July 4th after all 🙂

Didn't know schools sent out secondaries over the holidays! Just got the secondary this morning.

In general can we expect to get secondaries on weekends?

In the "Expenses" tab under the secondaries where we list the % of how we paid for college, can anyone help explain what "Employment" means? Is that how much I paid my tuition through my work study job, or how much my parents directly paid out of pocket?

Also, would grants fall under the scholarships category?

Thank you!

I would guarantee it's how much YOU paid out of your pocket from working.

Just checked and my status has changed to "has been reviewed."
They're moving fast!

Oh hey, mine too! CRAZY! Does anyone know when IIs started to come out last year? I'm on my phone so I can't check.

When did you complete your secondary?

Now you are hoping status will change from "has been reviewed" back to "is being reviewed" 🙂 based the following post from NCKSD

"Just to clear up status updates on your file check.

If your file goes from "is complete and has been reviewed" BACK to "is complete and is being reviewed" (the original status) then an interview invite is coming.

If after interview it goes from "is complete and is being reviewed" to "your file is not supported on this page" then an acceptance call is coming UNLESS it's late in the season when the wait list would come out (you get this status if you get wait listed as well).

This is what the applicants found to be true in the last 2 BCM Threads. Best of luck applying!"

Did you guys ever get a complete email from Baylor? I submitted on 7/2 and it still says I am incomplete on the status page despite AMCAS having my letters for three weeks. Is this abnormal enough to bug the admissions office about?

Completed on July 1st. Pretty late in the night though so everyone else who submitted on that day has probably also been reviewed.
I'll start checking my status again towards the end of the month--I have ties to Baylor though so they might interview me out of courtesy.

Submitted secondary 7/3, and today on 7/11 my status says: "Your application is complete and currently being reviewed by the committee. We will let you know something as soon as we are able."

+1

Mine says this:

Your application is complete and has been reviewed by the committee.
We will let you know something as soon as we are able.

I hope I still have a chance at an interview

It'll say that until they start sending out II's, so for now you're fine!

anyone know when IIs usually come out for Baylor?

I wasn't verified through AMCAS until later (like end of July/beginning of August), but I got my II in September.

Edit: They obviously start going out sooner than that too. Just trying to give some idea of turnaround time.
