2014-2015 Cooper Medical School of Rowan University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Congrats to all of you with acceptances, how exciting!! I received an II here on 9/22, will be interviewing on 12/12. 33-35 MCAT, 3.4-3.6 cGPA and sGPA.

Good luck everyone!

Oh, for sure, especially since Cooper's adcom hasn't been shy about quick rejections, haha.
how do you know this? I have been complete forever and havent heard anything.

Also, is it possible for someone (anyone) to send me a link to the secondary app portal? it has disappeared from my email, and I cant seem to navigate to it through the site to check on my status. . .

If you look at older posts, you'll see that a bunch of people have been rejected already. And here's the link: https://medapp.rowan.edu/

Reading past years threads, I think acceptances went out pretty early. I think the silence post interview is a bad sign.

Wow @RachieRach , 6 days from interview to acceptance?! You must have knocked their socks off! Congrats!

Ah thanks, but they specifically told us that they would be discussing as much of our interview group as possible in their meeting on the 15th so I think it's just how they do things.

Hi there-in the chance that anyone plans to cancel their interview for this coming Friday, October 24, please PM me. I know this is soooooo unlikely, but just asking as I'm in the area for a different interview and traveling internationally to my interviews.

Any acceptance today?

Hey guys! Hope interviews and applications are going well for everyone! Any sub-30 interview invites/WLs/acceptances? If so, when were you complete and what were your stats? Thanks for the information and good luck to all applicants!

The school has every resource imaginable that it will have no problem whatsoever and frankly it doesn't affect you anyway because by the time you graduate it will be fully accredited. The school has essentially maintained all the resources from the RWJ camden campus so it is unlike most medical schools in that it really is not a completely new medical school. Other schools have taken longer than the minimum four years to get the ull accreditation, this will not be the case for CMSRU. They have everyone working on it rest assured.

Rejected just now, pre-interview. Complete on 9/12. High GPA, MCAT in their lower range, lots of clinical hours. Pretty bummed because I was really passionate about this school's mission and felt like I was a pretty good fit.

Congrats to those that have been accepted and good luck to those still waiting!

rejected also. felt like my experiences and secondary essays literally couldn't fit their program any better. oh well. good luck to you all

Also rejected pre-interview. Complete on 08/17. 28-30 MCAT, GPA in their lower range. I also thought I was a very good fit, especially since I work with the same population their students do. Best of luck to everyone else in the running!

Rejected as well. Complete 9/14. LizzyM ~ 68. While I really jived with the mission statement and vision of the school, I can't say that I was incredibly excited to be in Camden-- so it's probably for the best. Good luck to all of you still in the running!

Joining in on the rejection party. Lizzy M 64-70. Definitely thought I had a shot at an interview here since I have a lot of volunteer experience with a similar type of population. Pretty bummed but hoping for some good news elsewhere...Best of luck to all of you still waiting!

OOS. Complete 9/21. Rejected this morning; probably for the best, as I wasn't exactly excited about going to Camden.

Good luck to those still in the running 🙂

Long time lurker.

Rejected today, bummed and a little surprised to be honest, but what are you gonna do? Thought I would just post my info for anyone interested in getting a sense of who Cooper seems to be interested in. Also should note that I have received an interview request at NYMC, one other reject, and a "pre interview hold" at another.

NYC area Post-Bacc Student, 3.6 GPA
Northeast area Undergrad, 3.3 GPA
MCAT 34
Good amount of research experience.

Also… pet peeve.
Look in all serious your stats are well below par to be questioning the accreditation (frankly anywhere you get accepted you should look at as a blessing).

This is a rude and unprofessional way to talk about someone in a forum, particularly from a medical student. I'm fine if no one else feels this way, but asking about Cooper's accreditation is a legitimate question and responding by attacking someone's "stats" is obnoxious and childish.

People are more than numbers 🙂

I would not have brought anything up, but both last year and this year she has essentially negated the school's worthiness and actively encouraged people to go elsewhere if they have choice. When someone doesn't have any idea what they are talking about I can be in the right about what I said. Btw I would encourage thicker skin because what I said wasn't even a big deal, attendings and senior resident in the hospital no matter where you go are far less kinder.
Not the point. This isn't about "deal with what I said because you'll hear worse". You could have effectively made your point without bringing the person's stats up and being so condescending. Bye Felicia!

I agree, that comment was very rude

No matter the circumstances that's not a mature way to talk to someone. Also as a post-bacc student, I've had the benefit of working in medicine, so I understand what its like to work in a hospital. To be more precise, I've worked in research; where things often get heated, so I have a pretty thick skin. That being said, my opinion is that you were being unprofessional and although other doctors behave in a similar fashion, that doesn't make it right… or in fact a productive way to practice medicine.

However, the most disturbing fact is that instead of apologizing and taking criticism, you explained it away then took a swipe at me for having a thin skin. The bottom line is that anyone who is a doctor, medical student, or pre-med should behave in a professional manner and when they don't live up to that standard they should apologize.

Also joining the rejection party. Complete 8/16. Bummed because I have loads of experience working with the underserved and similar population to Camden. Sigh. Good luck to everyone else! 🙂

Hey guys, can anyone shed some light on the thought process behind these rejections? All of them seem beyond capable paperwise and many have interviews at other places. Is Rowan being more realistic with their interviews to not be a backup school? Are they looking for specifics in ECs? Thanks!

Cooper received 3,666 applications last year and offered 285 interviews for 64 spots. That's a whole lot of applicants for 64 spots. As a result, they have to be smart about how they use their interviews. Since everyone is applying to multiple schools, I would guess they use admissions data from the past to decide which students are likely to accept an offer and which students aren't. Cooper probably can't offer the best 285 applicants an interview or else they would never fill a class.

Just got an II today. Complete ~8/3. 27 MCAT, cGPA 3.8 sGPA 3.7 (approx numbers). South Jersey resident (only ~40 min from the school), did my undergrad in Philly and have lots of clinical experience in the metro area. My EC's are pretty good, but no research.
