2014-2015 Cooper Medical School of Rowan University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Sorry if this was clarified before, but is it assumed that if you interview in February you are essentially interviewing for a spot on the waitlist? Cooper is my number one choice and my interview isn't until Feb 6th (II ~end of October). Do you guys think it would be in my favor to send an email requesting to move my interview date sooner if a spot opens up or will that not really help my chances?
Typically if you are offered an interview, it's because they are considering you for entrance to the medical school class, not simply the waitlist. We all received interview offers based on when we were reviewed. I was offered only January spots when I was offered my interview in mid October. When I tried to look for an earlier date (in area email) they told me highly unlikely, and indeed, there were no spots. Best of luck to you!

Are there any current students (or anyone else) who knows if anyone ever gets accepted off the regular waitlist?

Recently got this email from the school : Currently you are on the Waitlist for Interview. We expect interview seats to open between now and the final interview day in March 2015, so there is a very high likelihood that you will receive an invitation from CMSRU.

I was wondering if anyone had gotten off of this list and received an interview lately? Thanks!

May I ask when you received that email? I haven't been rejected yet, but haven't received this email either...wondering where I am in the whole mix.

Yea no worries. I received the email today. I was complete around late September.

Also wondering the same thing. Was actually complete early July but decided not to send in the secondary bc everything got so expensive hahaha. Decided last minute to send it in on Friday and I got the email this morning.

Oh man, I was complete in August I believe and didn't receive the email...I wonder what that means....

Anyone else in the same boat?

can someone elaborate on what to expect from the faculty interview and standardized patient experience?

what time do they send out acceptance/waitlist/rejection email or phone call?

Accepted by e-mail! Interviewed 12/12/14. In state, 34 MCAT, 3.4-3.6 sGPA and cGPA.

Good luck to all!

hmmm i guess they send out acceptances first? 🙁 interviewed that day, still no response

They said they won't be able to get to everyone at their meeting so many will find out around Jan 14th I think? I also have heard nothing and interviewed 12/12.

I interviewed on 12/12 and don't remember hearing that they won't be able to get to everyone on their meeting. How sure are you of this? If true, at least that's some relief...
I don't recall exactly, but I do remember that their saying they will call those accepted and email those who are waitlisted/rejected.
I am OOS, btw.

Pretty sure. I wrote it down in the little notebook they gave us because they briefly mentioned that they have their committee meetings on Wednesdays about applicants from the week prior and they often don't get to everyone and so are then postponed to the next meeting to make sure we all get fair time being considered at the meetings and not rushed. After this past Wednesday the next meeting won't be until Jan 14th unfortunately. We're still in the running so no worries. 🙂

Ah Thanks! That at least gives me some hope!
Are you by, any chance, the person from San Diego?

haha, i am the asian guy from san jose, california. i think we were in the same group asking questions at the student ambassador, at the end. best of luck to you!

Oh yeah I remember. Very cool. Best of luck to you! I'm pretty sure we're still in the running so don't stress.

aww, waitlisted today after interview. doesn't say priority so i guess i am on the regular waitlist
bummed
interviewed 12/12

I got an email saying my status is pending until the next committee meeting and I'll hear about it Jan 15th. I really I hope I get an acceptance I feel like I mesh with their mission statement so so well.

Hey all, best of luck to you guys!

Can anyone offer any insight on how the interview will be like? I have mine this coming Friday and I'm pretty nervous

Mines this Friday too! See you there!

There's some info on their website. And all I've heard was a 2-on-1 interview and 2 situational type scenarios

Can anyone speak to their interview experience here and what we should expect going into it?

very easy interview. everyone very friendly. they make you feel comfortable. just be yourself. also i recommend to whoever has an interview in february to call and get yourself on the cancelation list. i called 3 weeks ago and my interview was changed from late february to today. i think the interview went well.

My interview was 2-on-1 with one inteviewee who has not seen my application and then one who has. And the situational scenarios are pretty fun. 🙂

And yes everyone is SUPER SUPER friendly it's like a big happy family. Just be yourself and they try to help you relax if you're nervous.

For those of you possibly looking for an earlier interview date, I cancelled my 2/6 interview date (very tough decision for such a great school).

Best of luck.

Priority wait listed here. I guess that's a good place to be from my understanding of the typical movement on the waitlist. 🙂

I had my interview today. Exceed all expectations, though mine were already quite high. Completely smitten.

Does anyone know if we can send updates? There doesn't seem to be an option on the portal and was wondering if their admissions email address would accept any letters.

Pre interview offer or post interview?

Post-interview
I do not remember them saying anything about updates. I think that you can write a letter to any school with a significant update that might have a real impact on your application, or to complete a picture that you might feel had gaps in the past.
I was at an interview yesterday at an alternative school, and she referenced the above for updates, and then said a "letter of interest" was only appropriate after you receive a waitlist decision.
I'm not sure if this helps. I honestly never think it hurts to send an update or letter of interest, as long as it is relevant and makes your intentions to attend the school clear. Best of luck. This is such a great school!!

Yeah, in case anyone else needs to know, I called admissions and they supposedly do not take letter of updates. In my opinion, I'm not sure if even you go ahead and send them a significant update anyway that they would add it to your file, as it seems like a pretty significant competitive advantage. I'm not sure if this changes at all in the case of a waitlist though, like you mentioned. If a waitlist is the case for me, then I hope it does change their receptiveness to letters haha.
