2014-2015 Creighton University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
That's later than I was complete 🙁 does that mean I can probably expect to not receive an II? What's your ~LizzyM if you don't mind?

I wouldn't think that way! You have to stay positive throughout this waiting game. We don't know how and in what order they process and review the apps. Every school has their own method. The interview dates are in Nov so that means there's still plenty of interview opportunities left! If you look at last year's thread, they were still sending out II in February. Keep your head up =)

As for my LizzyM, it isn't high and I am grateful for every II I get. Definitely not as competitive as the ones I've seen around SDN. So I wouldn't want you to compare your LizzyM to mine. I do have an upward trend and did a postbacc program. I'm also a reapplicant and I like to think that my ECs are solid.

You're doing fine. I was complete in July...clearly passed over once or twice but then re-reviewed I'm guessing. I sent in updates and called every other week pretty much
In addition to your updates, what did you call about every other week? Just asking about your application status? I know this school loves updates but I don't want to seem like I'm pestering them.

You're right. There is a fine line between pestering and showing significant interest, and I'm not quite sure where it is. I just called and talked about my application, what they like to see in applicants, and would discuss ways that I fit that profile. It was conversational, and with each call I learned a little more about the school and they learned a little more about me. I mean I really really really want to go here so it's not like I could've done this for every school. I invested time, and I think they appreciated that.

Creighton really likes updates (hence the update area on the application portal). I was told on interview day to send some updates even post-interview and I was accepted yesterday!

Congratulations everyone! So when should I start getting worried? Haha. Completed mid-July with some pretty good stats and lots of EC's.. Haven't heard a thing.

Don't worry yet! It is still very early and Creighton interviews into March, so don't be concerned until March! Best of luck and be sure to send in any pertinent updates to demonstrate your continued interest.

Anyone trying to pay a deposit through Nest and having trouble getting it to work? Where in NEST do you even go? I can't find it...

I had a hard time finding the link on nest as well, but I finally found it. Once you activate the account and log in, the link says something like "pay your deposit". If you need more specific help feel free to PM me!

Thanks! I think it is down again. 🙁 What are you all thinking about the clinical campus?
I couldn't get it to work yesterday...called admissions and was told it was down. The emailed me back today and let me know it was up and running again. Once you log in, the 5th link down is "Pay School's Class Reservation Deposit Online." Once you click that, it'll take you to a place where you can select credit card or echeck and pay the deposit.

I preferenced Omaha...Phoenix is ridiculously far from home/family, I love the midwest, and I hate hot weather, so it was a pretty easy choice for me.
Makes sense. I have family in both areas and some close friends in Phoenix, so I would be happy in either place. I think living for a few years somewhere new would be fun. I'm requesting Phoenix just because it is (generally) harder to get, and they say that it is easier to change your mind and switch to Omaha than vice versa.

I requested Phoenix, for the exact reasons you mentioned!

Interesting. So, I really like Creighton too, worked with some great CU physicians. I added one update already last week after being selected for this foreign service-learning trip over 6 months funded by the state department. What do you think warrants an update? these are things in my pipeline:
-november: volunteer spotlight in the newsletter for the social welfare agency I volunteer at
-december: grades coming out (hopefully will get As, which I need as have a sub 3.0 despite 60 credits at 4.00 postbacc)
-december: 1st author publication will hopefully be accepted at national peer reviewed journal

Do all of the above warrant updates? Do you think CU would like all these updates or think me annoying?

Also, do you think calling and being "persistent" asking about my application and so forth, would that be good? I talked to one of the admissions directors over summer before I applied...should I call and ask to talk to him again? Do you have any advice on how much I should push the issue, ya know? Thanks and congrats!

I was wanting to send a letter of interest to Creighton so that they know this school is among my top 2 choices. However I don't have any official updates, so I can't put the letter through the portal. Would it be appropriate to send such a letter to the admisssions e-mail addressed to the dean?

For the volunteer spotlight, you could probably incorporate that into a letter about your ongoing work as a volunteer with that organization (I sent a similar update post-interview regarding a long-term volunteer position I continue to this day - I was told to do this by my interviewer because they like to know what service-related activities you're doing at the moment).

As for grades, just upload them when they become available, given that they have a spot in the 'upload documents' section.

Send an update under 'Research Experiences' once your article is accepted in the journal. You can basically cite your article and tell them a bit about your research / what role you played in the project.

Best of luck, hope this helps!

Do you think calling and asking to speak to the admissions guy I spoke to in summer before I applied would be a good idea, or not?

EDIT: Its good to see that you don't think sending 3 updates is too much.

Yes, I think it is a good idea to ask to speak with the same admissions officer, given that you've already established a connection and that person has a sense of your application/interest. And no, I think 3 update letters is totally fine. I sent between 3-5 because I happened to have a lot of new things turn up after my secondary.

If you don't mind, what did you incorporate in your updates? Not much has changed since I submitted my app (still volunteering and taking classes), so I'm wondering if that would even qualify as an update.

So the deposit is refundable, correct? If we end up choosing to attend another school, we receive our $100 back?

Yes it's refundable up to the deadline in May (or is it late April this year?).

I would love to go here. Have sent several updates and my stats/EC are in line......still no news. 🙁

I think I am in a similar boat as you. Complete early August, Lizzy M 68 with lots of EC's and Jesuit undergrad, mostly interested in underserved work as a physician. I am worried that Creighton does not send out pre-interview rejections and that we will be waiting to hear back a while...but thinking more positively I hope we both get an interview invite soon!! we seem to match their mission and stats

For those of you who have been accepted, did you see it on the secondary portal first? Or did you get an e-mail first?

I guess I should say +1 to @buchote99! I saw it yesterday, but without an e-mail confirmation I have a hard time believing I actually got in!! But I am so so excited.

Same! Last night I felt like a moment I had been dreaming of for what seems like my whole life was relatively anti-climatic since I wasn't sure if I could trust the website without an email confirmation. I called this morning and apparently Garland Jarmon, who usually is responsible for sending out the emails, is currently out of town. Hopefully we will receive the email either later today or when he comes back.

Agreed! Have you heard anything from other schools? I know some schools (like Oregon) won't look at my app until January because of my fluke MCAT score. Still radio silence across the board for my applications, so no news is still good news.

Ah well I wish you the best of luck...I had some struggles with the MCAT as well, particularly verbal lol. So far I have had one other interview and a couple rejections but otherwise silence from my fellow Jesuits hahah

Just sent in some updates, so hopefully that shows I'm much more than the MCAT haha. I know there's plenty of time left in the cycle, but it's hard to be patient, that's for sure. I'm just sitting here waiting for an II like this

Sorry if this is a stupid question...but was there an option somewhere on the NEST to choose Phoenix or Omaha? I have only paid my deposit so far and there was nothing on that page regarding that.
