2014-2015 Florida State University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
How long did it take you guys to receive a secondary? I got my AMCAS verified on Monday, so its been about 3-4 days but most of my other schools have already sent me an email regarding secondaries.

Still waiting on mine too. Someone told me it could take up to ten days.

When did you submit and when were you complete? I think it took me about a week after my application was complete for me to get a secondary, but I also submitted within the very first hour that the window was open and all of my letters were already processed.

I already submitted my secondary. I was wondering about interview invitations?

painfully waits for interview..... Anyone have any knowledge on how long or when they start giving out interview invites?

When I called last month, they told me they go through all the ED people first, then regular. That's all I got.

Last year for regular applicants it started from the first week of September. So we still have a while to go.

Oh, sorry I misread that. The best I've heard was an ED interview offered 8/20 one year. Definitely post as soon as you here of anyone getting one, because we're all anxious!

I am guessing we will start hearing from the school soon as the EDP application deadline will pass today.

My AMCAS got verified four days ago, and I received a secondary yesterday. Just letting y'all know, hoping that it eases some of your anxiety.

Got my secondary yesterday. I have a 28 MCAT and a 3.65 GPA and a # of, what I believe to be meaningful, experiences to go with it. However, filling this app out to the best of my abilities, I still have a sick feeling in my stomach that ultimately says that I dont really have a shot and im gonna get rejected. Anyone else feel like that?

Does anybody know the stats for the students who apply/get accepted as ED?

Well its reassuring reading the FAQ page on FSU's website that says that their average MCAT score was a 27 and that they look at the entire application. Helped the sick feeling in my stomach a bit

So im on the parents question. I keep finding myself giving a history of what my parents have went through rather than just listing their traits and hobbies. However, you could determine their character traits if you carefully read what I wrote. Is it ok to write it out this way or should I just keep it brief and write directly give them what they are asking for?

I would keep it brief and give them what they are asking for. They are going to be reading thousands of applications so try to make it as easy on them as possible to get your information across to them.

Start with a goal for your answer. Why are they asking that question? What is the take home message you want them to get from your answer? Then just pick and choose a couple things about your parents that will best deliver that message as briefly as possible.

for the pre req classes that I took care of with AP credit, do I list the AP class or the class it took care of? Im guessing its the latter

For the course number and course name, I used the course information for which I received credit. For institution, I simply wrote "AP Credit". Not sure if that's right but I think they can figure it out.

Thats basically what I did

Just submitted my secondary...Here goes....

Got the II as well. I have a friend who said she was declined an interview today so it sounds like they did some of both

Btw I'm ED

I am filling out this secondary and a bit confused. All of the parents, travel, etc essays are a 500 word cap. This makes sense, even kind of long. However, the critical analysis essay is asking me to explain why I am academically qualified, personally qualified, and when I realized my professional ambition, all in 500 words. This seems really short, is it this supposed to be 500 or am I missing something? Thanks!

Unless I misread it, by "realize your professional ambition" I think they mean what qualifications will help you make your ambitions come true not when you decided on those ambitions.

application is officially considered complete....woooo

"Write a critical analysis of your personal and scholastic qualifications for the study of medicine and the realization of your professional ambitions."

Maybe this is a poor sentence or maybe I have bad english, but the way you see it makes much more sense. Thanks!

What do people think are considered "significant" travel experiences? I'm fairly well traveled but only a few were anything more than vacation.

Any traveling experiences that you gained something out of would be fine. Travels that were a part of volunteering or something of that sort would be great. But even mere vacations that you actually gained something out of can be put. They just want to know about you, and your life and experiences.

Hopefully going to wrap up the secondary today! Depending on how long I get stuck at work.... lol

For the traveling question I just talked about all the places I lived. We moved a lot as a family so I just explained the circumstances. I talked about my exposure to different cultures but didn't go much in depth.

Similar stats as you my friend, except my GPA is lower. It's natural to have that feeling.. this whole process is very humbling!

Complete yesterday. Under Review. 3.51/3.35/30(11/9/10) Tallahassee resident, UF student. Hoping for that II! 😀

for my traveling ques, I talked about my trip to Pakistan when I was a kid and what I really learned out of the whole deal

So I've been thinking about this for a few days now, but on my secondary, I putdown that I see myself in emergency med. I knew this school was huge on primary care, but I still put down emergency (I know, really stupid). Did I kill my chances?

Emergency medicine is considered primary care, atleast FSUMED does. So you are good, even better IMO.

Awesome! Can't wait to meet you guys. I mean I would really like to get an interview invite first 🙂

Is it bad to answer the field of medicine question with something other than primary care? Does anyone think that might hurt your chances?

For the field of medicine question is the general consensus that putting something other than primary care is bad? Also, did everyone elaborate on why they want to be in that field?

*EDIT: Didn't realize the post before this one had actually posted...

**SECOND EDIT: For the critical analysis, how did people talk about their scholastic qualifications? Address trends in GPA and things like that or talk about qualities as student?
