Not true. There is always movement from the waitlist. They are not even done with the cycle yet. The last interview session is on 4/27. Anyone can say what they want, but honestly, just think...there would be folks that would withdraw after being accepted to other schools and they would call folks from the alternate list. The only change this year that I hear of is that there would not be a second look with their season ending that late. Anyone interviewing there any soon can confirm and ask about the alternate list movement...else someone can call too.
 
A second look was traditionally the event where students (both accepted after interview and after being pulled off the waitlist) were invited to the campus again right? So you're saying they're not having that event anymore?

Thats what I understand from previous post on this thread. Primarily becoz of the late finishing of the cycle. Again, no concrete confirmation what so ever.
Traditionally UCI also invited candidates off the alternate list for second look, till last year....per the threads of previous years.

Current student here! My friend told me there were a lot of unanswered questions on this forum so I figured I'd go through and help out a little. I started this account strictly for answering UCI questions, so I obviously don't have user history at this point... sorry bout it.

UCI's curriculum is currently in the middle of an overhaul. There has been a significant change in leadership in recent years that has broken down many previously rigid barriers that kept a traditional curriculum in place. I can't say exactly what next year's curriculum will look like, but I can say I am jealous of next year's class because there has been A LOT of thought put into its design.

On-campus housing has its perks and downfalls. Biggest perk is that it is usually much cheaper than off campus housing and is really close to campus (obviously). Biggest downfall is that the housing office at UCI is notoriously unorganized (like most on-campus housing offices) and your preferences aren't really taken into account for roommate assignment. Off-campus options come in many flavors and the significant perk of being able to live with your classmates. I know some of my classmates are putting together a welcome guide that should address all of these issues for the incoming class.

To echo what's been said, there will not be a second look event this year. Historically second look events tend to be a bit artificial, so instead students have been encouraged to visit the campus/uci events on their own schedule/coordinate with current students through the FB group. I think this would give students a better idea of what UCI is really like anyways.

Hey thank you so much. This really helped. Do you know if UCI has a ranked or unranked waitlist. I'm currently on the alternate list, interviewed pretty early (second available date), and want to send an update letter/letter of interest. Wanted to know when would be the best time to send it, considering the interviewing cycle ends 4/27 this year.

Also, i plan to be out of country for the second half of april, if i get a call from the admissions office for a possible acceptance and miss it, will i get an e-mail or would they move on to the next person?

Hi Dr. One! I recall Dr. Peterson saying on interview day that the list is ranked but confidential. I.e. they won't tell you what your rank is. She also mentioned how she normally will try to reach you via phone a couple times before sending an email!
 
although, just a question for anyone who knows- have they already filled their class? Are interviews after march just for waitlist spots??

Congrats! I felt like the interview day at UCI was more chill than most of my interviews last year. 1 student interview, 1 faculty interview, a pseudo MMI (that my class didn't have to do), and a whole lot of info.

Question: I received secondary from UCI in late August, and sent it within two weeks later. My status for "Interview" still says "Under Review" and I have not received any update since September. Is this normal (are they actually thoroughly looking through the application), or did they forget about me? 🙁

I suggest that you send in an update or LOI as the last interview date is fast approaching. Would not hurt this late in the cycle to remind them of yourself.

Also curious to know, except I've been "under review" since July haha. I figure I'm rejected but holding onto a little tiny sliver of hope that they'll throw an II my way

Edit: I have sent a BUNCH of updates so hopefully that helps!

I read on this thread that a new curriculum is in the works for next year's class.
Was this information told to applicants on interview day or is it something only current med students know about?

I ask because i'm working on an update/interest letter and want to list the new curriculum as one of my reason's for attending.

We were vaguely told there's a new curriculum in the works but there wasn't very much detail given from what I can remember.
 
Looks like (according to last years thread) April 1st was a status change to Rejection for most applicants waiting for interview Invites 🙁
 
I just got an interview invite, the day before they send out final status updates. I submitted my secondary July 15. Planning to go somewhere else though. Too bad, I don't think I can give the spot to someone else on the last day before final decisions =/

Please email them ASAP! Maybe they can send it out tomorrow morning. I'm sure if anyone gets it, they'd appreciate it.
 
Kind of sad that the end is near for my son here. Good luck to those still hanging on.

It changed today, no email... yet! I remember someone posting before that their status went blank and few hours later they got the email/status rejection.

Does anyone know how many students UC Irvine typically accepts? As in, how much the waitlist moves and how many people deny their acceptances? I just had my interview two days ago. Btw, I was given my interview last Monday so it seems they may STILL be awarding interviews.
 
Mr. MCAT, they say they have about 6000 or so applicants, and only about 104 positions
 
No yeah I get that, I'm just saying what is the alternate list movement? Like how many acceptances has UC Irvine given out in the past, with how many people denying those acceptances?
 
in the remote chance that I actually get placed on the waitlist.
