Accepted today!!!
Anyone previously accepted- is there anything I can do to hold my spot on the portal before I get materials in the mail?
I don't think so. They give you instructions on how to hold your spot in the packet they mail you. Congrats 🙂

congrats! When did you interview?
I interviewed two weeks ago, but I don't think we will hear until February...

I have been complete since early sept (when i completed the secondary and LOR) and have heard nothing back, at this point I would like to update them with my grades from last semester, but would it even be worth it at this point? And are they receptive to pre interview updates?? Thank you for any help!!

You could always send them an update with your grades and bring them up to speed with you activities. Or you could also kind of make it into a letter of intent (may be riskier considering it would be pre-interview). I would say this late in the game, I would give something a try.

Does anyone know how to submit updates? through the secondary portal??

It doesn't look like they have any options on the portal for submitting updates. If I were you, I would send an email to the general admissions email from which you receive all of your information about secondaries and such. That email it [email protected]

If you want some good advice on writing an update, I used this site when writing several of mine: http://blog.accepted.com/2014/01/31/how-to-write-waitlist-update-letters-2/

Good luck

Putting some travel plans together and was wondering what the upcoming timeline looks like for people on the wait list.

I remember Dr. Peterson saying that we'd hear back late Spring (so I'm assuming late April-May)? What exactly do we hear back and are we required to be in person to confirm anything? Does anyone know the deets?

Has any pre-interview rejections rolled out yet? For folks who were complete since July/August...

Interviewed here on the 12th... will everyone from that interview day here sometime this month?

From threads of earlier years, you can be called to see if you might still be interested and or called for a second look before they decide. Your best bet would be to review last year threads and probably call and talk to them.

Accepted and will be attending!!!!! Interviewed 1/12. Just got the call from Dr. Peterson!

Congrats!! Quick turn around, 1 day shy of 4 weeks...

I interviewed that day too, so nervous!! Anyone elae from 1/12 hear back?

I also received an II, and scheduled it for 3/30. However, mine is for the regular MD program.

Does anyone know what is the likelihood of being accepted from such a late interview?
I guess since it's after 3/15 I will be interviewing with the hopes to take the spot of someone who declines their offer of acceptance...any thoughts?

they don't interview for waitlist spots so you have a shot at a normal acceptance like the rest of peeps who interviewed on earlier dates. What is the 3/15 date you are referring to?

I think that's the date by which schools have to offer the same amount of acceptances as the number of new students in the following fall...or is it 3/31?

On my interview day, Dr. Peterson informed us that there will be no second look this year since they are interviewing all the way until the end of April.

I believe 3/15 is the date that med schools are required to accept number of students matching the intended upcoming class size.

Then what exactly is the process for people to get off the waitlist. Waitlisted people I know are supposed to hear back late april, which from last years calendar was around the last week of april to the first week of May.

Can someone here please describe in detail their interview experience at UCI? Was it laid back? Intense? Both?

I also hear there's a pseudo-MMI part and I know you're not allowed to discuss it. Was it harder or easier than other MMIs you've had before?

Thanks

Don't we need to choose a med school by 4/30 this year? You might have one of the fastest turnarounds!
What I understand is that you can only hold one acceptance by 4/30...Waitlists dont count and neither do the ones with pending decision.

Yeah ... I'm also wondering the same thing. They'll probably just reach out to people throughout May? I really hope there's waitlist movement this year...

Oh okay that makes more sense!

The interview day was mostly pretty relaxing. In the morning you get a financial aid talk, you get a conversation with some medical students, and then you are fitted for your white coat. After that there is a lunch with the medical students, and then they move into interviews. From my groups I heard interviews going all kinds of different ways because faculty and medical student interviewers tend to be very different from group to group. We interviewed first with medical students, then had the pseudo station that we are not allowed to discuss. My medical student interviewer was very sweet, and she left a very good impression. After that, some of us took a shuttle to the medical center campus where we had our faculty interviews. My interviewer was very intimidating, and I thought that he hated me, but I guess he didn't since I was accepted shortly after my interview. I heard most people say that their interview was very laid back and conversational.

Best of luck to you.

Anyone have an idea what the interview situation is looking like at UCI? I told em I would be in the area early February and they said that they had an interview date 2/9 (which was not a day I would be in town). Still not sure if that was their way of offering an interview (not likely since I haven't hear anything since then). In any case, just trying to figure out if it's even worth hoping to hear back from them at this point.

Does your status still say under review?

Hm just wondering but for those who got II via status change only, did you eventually get an email for the II?

For those who's been accepted and sent in your SIR stating that you intend to matriculate, did you receive a confirmation later from the admissions office confirming that they know you plan to matriculate in August? Or does the status on the portal explicitly shows that your SIR is received and they know you plan to matriculate?

got put on the alternate list this week... o well!

does Irvine do any post-interview rejections? Or is it just acceptances and alt. list for everyone else?

Nope, they definitely do post-interview rejections.

My interview status is still "Under Review" and I never got an email invitation to interview, but my portal shows links for:
Interview Instructions
Schedule Interview

The first link is a pdf that opens with:
Congratulations on being selected to interview at the University of California Irvine, School of Medicine! This document provides you with instructions for scheduling your interview and information you will need for your interview day.

So it seems like I got an interview without the email. 😵

But the 2nd link says:
At this time either you have not been awarded an interview or you have already scheduled a date.

So it seems like I don't have one.
Does anyone else have these links?? I'm really confused,

I think that's always been like that. At least mine has been.
