2014-2015 University of California - San Diego Application Thread

In my auto, I don't really talk much about why medicine bc that was my entire ps. I also don't try to sell myself in anyway. I just tell the story of my life. Do u think that's ok?
Yeah thats practically what I am doing, I had a few sentences on why medicine though

Just got an email from Brian Zeglen saying they'd be working on photo upload problem on Monday.

How long did it take for everyone to access their secondary applications? Mine says that the website is "broken." Just panicking because now I have less than 2 weeks left... help

This same exact thing happens to me. Clicking "Back" and then on "Secondary App Form" again takes me to the correct page you should have been redirected to!

Finished this essay!!! I thought it was going to be really hard and I put it off for a while, but then I got to writing it and it was 18000 characters... Just cut it down though 🙂

I wonder if applying to prime-hq increases chances of being accepted... if it acts like as if one was applying to two different schools

it doesnt. if you don't have legitimate interest in that program and a large amount of experience to prove it, it's not going to fly, either.

Kay so someone asked this before and I have to ask it again. How hard does UCSD really screen? I know the SF and LA screen really intensely (esp SF) but basically I need to know how special I should be feeling? I don't want to be lead on 🙁 lol

Also, I know someone posted stats from like '08 but thats '08 and too long ago. If anyone has called or knows admissions at SD, would they be able to provide this info for current recent cycles? Thanks a ton!

Anyone else a little unimpressed by the school after the typos in the secondary and in the email about the photo problem? I mean you're a top class medical school UCSD, I was expecting better. Maybe that means we can get away with typos too?

if you're so unimpressed over a few typos, how about you just retract your application from UCSD?

I don't judge a school by their administrative difficulties. I judge it based on its educational qualities, including research opportunities and mentoring focus. So no, I'm not at all unimpressed. Frankly, it gives me time to work on other secondaries.

You should tolerate a school's minor flaws insofar as you hope that they can tolerate yours.

Agree 100% with this. I also often think that some top schools are so invested in their research and actually in the practice of medicine that they dont have the time to make their websites glamorous (or in the case of ucsd updated past 2008). Same thing with the typos.

Just a point of clarification. Even when they fix the photo upload issue, the limiting factor really is the payment system. In the email they mentioned the payment system would be resolved late in this upcoming week.

i.e., we are going to crash their servers by submitting the secondary simultaneously lol. :joyful:

You're right, it's totally acceptable to be an academic institution and forget basic grammar. No biggie...

New secondary deadline for all applicants that have received the secondary already: August 18th (according to email sent out tonight).

I can't sign in to the secondary at all. It sends me to an error page. Is anybody else experiencing the same thing?

You have a good point, no matter what happens, their school is still on the beach in La Jolla.

Anyone able to upload the photo? I know they said they will work on it today but it's still not working from my side and wanted to know if any of you had any luck!

I'm ready to submit but this darn photo :/

So, did anybody else have a problem where the application automatically submitted?

I definitely did not submit or electronically sign anything, and now I can't even access the application. I know that I couldn't have done it by mistake, because I have still been unable to submit a photo...

Called UCSD and they said they would try to reopen it. Just wondering if anyone else has had similar issues.

The email said he'd email us all when the issue was resolved. Besides, you still can't pay your fee until later this week so submitting would not make much of a difference

I am now able to upload my picture... But the final review button isn't working. Anyone else having the same issue?

Oh man just the thought of 4 years studying in La Jolla - seriously, they can make all the writing errors that they'd like.... that setting is just too insane to complain about anything related to UCSD.

You have no idea 😛 The beach is so close and so beautiful.

Just submitted! Still unable to pay, but the secondary itself is in 🙂

or specifically, it seems prime program are targeted to a serving the underserved where the specific school is located. what makes lets say someone from another part of california suddenly interested in helping specifically underserved communities around La Jolla, despite ample experience.
Thanks.

If you're thinking of applying to a PRIME program solely to increase your chances of getting in: Don't. That's not the purpose of these programs and they'll see right through you.

Still cannot upload a photo, how did you guys get around it? 🙂
