2014-2015 University of Central Florida Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
This might be a stupid question, but what is the next step after filling out FAFSA, do we apply for loans on our own or do we wait for UCF to give us instructions. Sorry, I'm really lost with this financial aid process.
In most cases your responsibility is to complete the FAFSA (can be estimated for now and edit when you get the complete information) assign the school codes and the with for programs. Programs will then begin to review the information and then begin to send out award letters in March/April.

@REL. At one of my interviews at another school I heard an adcom say that the AAMC requires schools to fill their classes by march 1st even though students have until may 1st (?) to decide between schools, if this is true how do you anticipate this affecting waitlist movement at UCF?

Also since you mentioned earlier about there not being much waitlist movement in december due to holidays, how much has that changed in the past several weeks in January?

I suspect that you are referring to AAMC Traffic Rule 4 for Admissions Officers: "By March 15 of the matriculation year, issue a number of acceptance offers at least equal to the expected number of students in its first-year entering class and report those acceptance actions to AMCAS." The Admissions Officer did not tell you the right date. You are also referring to Traffic Rule 6 which states: "After April 30, implement school-specific procedures for accepted applicants who, without adequate explanation, continue to hold one or more places at other schools or programs."

So my thoughts are that in the past April has generally been a slower month as applicant interviews are winding down. Most think in this order: Weighing their options, getting ready for finals, preparing for graduation, then making decisions regarding which acceptance to keep. Of course they also know that they will get (probably) multiple offers from wait lists which will allow them at least 5 days to make decisions between the old and new offer. This continues until an applicant decides to pull themselves off wait lists (no school can force you to do this, it is your decision all the way). So for this year, moving things up two weeks may squeeze this to where the second half of April will likely be much busier than in the past.

I would encourage all applicant to review the AAMC Traffic Rules for Admissions Officers https://www.aamc.org/students/apply...afficrulesforadmissionofficers-2015amcas.html to ensure that you understand when schools are trying to stampede you into a decision for otherwise push you into doing something you do not need to do. They cannot offer you scholarships in turn to ask you with with draw from acceptances or wait lists (never tell a school that you are on a wait list and they wont try to coerce you into some decision). After April 30 YOU have AT LEAST 5 days to make a decision -- this is truy unless you are getting near to the start date of that program. You should be able to negotiate time exceeding 5 days if you need it.....be wary of tuition scholarships - they do not include fees (which can be vastly different at programs), and finally making final decisions based on finances can be a bad idea; unless there is about a $10k annual difference, there is not really a huge difference in payback cost.

As for changes, I will send out an update in the coming week. Due to Holiday lag, there has only been one committee meeting in the new year.

EFI for 4 months! Come one UCF show me some in-state love :xf:
I'm having the same problem. Been silent from them for months even though I match their stats. Anyone receiving any new interview invitations recently?

@REL Is there any benefit in being a UCF alumnus and Orlando resident? Currently sitting at EFI but have lower stats than the school's average. Was wondering if those other factors can play a role in potentially landing an II.

I think we share the same preference that all IS applicants get.

I am departing on a trip for AAMC tomorrow and will return on Friday. I will attempt to create this group during the week if at all possible. I will also bring it up slowly inviting an initial few to help get it established.

I'd be willing to help get it started as well! I've been waiting since last cycle to find out who my potential classmates are. 🙂

Thanx, I will try tonight or tomorrow to get this going. Thank you for being patient.

For REL or anyone who has interviewed so far...are the supplemental(secondary) application inaccessible prior to an interview? I wanted to review all the materials I submitted, but I don't have access to it anymore.

Thanks for the help, in advance!

Was everyone supposed to have received a waitlist update email this week or are a lot of you still waiting on an email?

got an update this morning via email. Not much movement for me (they didn't have many committee meetings since ~december) but I think more will happen these next few months!

Congrats to those accepted! If you have any questions about the school I am a M1 and love it. to those on the waitlist that were asking between april and May you will hear! Good luck to all!

Does anyone know how often acceptances go out, how many people usually get accepted per round and how many of those are from the waitlist? Im on the upper half of the upper one third (since December) and I have one more interview offer but I don't want to take it cause I would rather go to UCF (its out of state so no reason to spend all that money for no reason), but I can't get myself to decline their interview offer without having an official offer from UCF because I just feel like that would be irresponsible....anyways any advice would help...

Upper half of upper 1/3 is definitely to be accepted....no question. Do what you think is right. We are back to weekly acceptances, the holidays interrupted the cycle. Call for more detail if you need.

I want to get into this school so badly! I hear back on Feb 4, wish me luck! Does anyone know if they leave a message if you are unable to answer the phone when they call?

Yeah they'll leave a message asking you to call back to hear your status

I've been hearing so many great things about this school! Can't wait for my interview on the 13th! Is anybody else interviewing this day? Message me! I'll be in Orlando Wednesday. Maybe we can meet up and explore!! 🙂

Is there a class page on FB?
Yes! You have to find it though 😉.

If you're having trouble finding it (and REL said it can be hard to find until it starts to fill up), just email REL and he'll send you an invite to join.

Awesome thank you!!!

Been eligible for interview selection since early september. does anyone know how long they usually interview for and if there is any hope haha

also do we email updates or is there a place on the secondary for updates?

I'm not sure how I managed to overlook the section of the interview itinerary regarding campus parking. Doh!
My interview is tomorrow, and I did not put in my request for a parking permit until after 5PM today when I checked into my hotel room.
Does anyone know if I will be able to get a permit for tomorrow or if I can purchase a day pass on campus?

I'm sure if you just park and go to the building and ask for a permit they'll print one for you and let you put it on your car dash

Mini-crisis averted! True to UCF's responsive nature, they sent me a parking permit around 7pm tonight.

Sent REL an email as well and reiterated what has been said: the last interview invites will be sent 2/16-2/20. So we should all know our fate in a few weeks.

This is my top pick, hands down. My interview day was so amazing and I'm really realllly hoping to go to UCF this fall. They're supposed to call me tomorrow regarding my status after a 1/26 interview. I am so nervous. Like, inexplicably. Cue the anxiety eating and compulsive phone checks. :nailbiting:

I remember you, Ms. Arkansas. Hope to see you there this fall.

😢 Lower Third....I think that's a death sentence...and I really like this school too...

Congratulations- I was accepted this morning too!! Rel definitely laid it on thick and made it sound like I was wait listed...sneaky dude, that one. Happy to be joining you. Message me!
This must be how the adcoms amuse themselves at UCF ... Laurel did the same thing to me 🙂.
