2014-2015 University of Florida Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Just wanted to stop by and wish those with II's good luck but also remind all other applicants that interviews occur alllll the way till March of next year! UF was my top choice and I felt downright rejected and simply not qualified because I never received an interview in the fall. I finally received the call to interview at the end of January and here I am, about to start my studies at the school of my dreams! So believe in yourself, have faith in your passion for medicine and everything you've done to get this far, and know that things will work out. Good luck to all of you, I wish you the best 🙂

A call 🙂

I really don't know what to do now... I am out of the country and I feel like putting my parent's number might be weird, but how else could I get around this issue?? Are you from UF as an undergrad?

Just an FYI, UF's email launcher is still at it. My complete email should have been sent on the 21st, and it wasn't. I now can see in the communication tab the message, and it looks like it was 'sent' to me. But that email never came, just like the secondary email that supposedly went out July 1st (but didn't). Other folks should check their UF app. I am not sure why they are having so much trouble. And I check my spam email daily. That is not were the email went.

Do any of you guys know how long it takes them to process the letters of recommendations and update the status to received after it has been upload to AMCAS?

They were having issues earlier, but I believe it has been resolved. So I can't say how long for others but I submitted mine 7/9 with secondary and was complete 7/21

The secondaries are the same as last year, yes? Here is what the questions consisted of last year:

1. 3 types of integrity question

2. Read the 2 essays from medical students... etc

3. What are your plans the year before medical school?

4. How does your personality type affect what kind of physician you will become?

Edited to add the following, posted upthread:
If you are not a full-time student during this application cycle, in particular at any time between September 2013 and May 2014, please detail your current and planned activities below.

Do you see yourself as more of an extravert or an introvert and how will this impact how you learn to communicate with patients and colleagues?

For this one there are two essays - you can't pre write till you read. Pick one, and describe the skills of the author that you notice and think are helpful, then describe how one or both of these stories relate to the kind of physician that you want to be.

Consider three areas of integrity: personal, professional, and intellectual. Using an example, describe how these areas may be interrelated. In your response include why the connection between these areas is significant.

These look the same, I posted the questions on the first page I believe though. But yeah it looks the same to me.

My application status is "Your application is ready!" and has been this for a while. Does it change at all prior to being offered an II/rejection?

Hello everyone! I am new to SDN 🙂 I just submitted the secondary here...I was out of the country and was unable to submit it soon after I received it...hopefully they will not mind that I turned it in more than two weeks after I received it. Anybody on the same boat? Or anybody from last year that submitted late?

Congrats to all IIs so far!

Same boat, also out of the country and submitted a few days ago

Anyone know if we can submit updates to our secondaries? or do they only accept updates if granted an interview..

I'm 99% sure there is an update link on the portal and that you get unlimited updates at any time.
FSU has a "release to FSU" button that can be submitted an unlimited number of times

Look under User Profile, then on the left Updates. It doesn't specify how often or when, but that's how to do it.

Thanks! Is your screen name intended to be ironic, or are you a future Dr. McDreamy? 😛

I am impatiently awaiting amcas verification. I submitted mid-July!

Good luck everyone. 🙂

It was a nickname 10 years ago, now, I think its much more on the ironic side. 😏

i thought:

was referring to updating his essays
I was referring to additional information (e.g. new research position, publication, etc). So it's not necessarily to update my essays. More so a supplement to the secondary application. I haven't submitted my secondary yet. I'm afraid if I submit it, I won't be able to add my new position that's still pending until next month.

Oh okay. I found it. Thanks!! I was just concerned since on the instruction page it says that:

"We will not allow any changes nor additions to your application once it has been submitted."

I guess that was just referring to the "secondary app" section itself then.

For those of you that received the II call...did you receive an email as well? I am out of the country and if I do get an II call...I do not want to miss the opportunity 🙁

I had the number of my friend on the AMCAS in anticipation of UF's call, but yes they later sent an email to confirm the date (at least with my situation).

To confirm the date...but would I get an email stating to call them back or inviting me for an interview if I do not answer?

I got a call but couldn't get in touch until the next day. I didn't get an email in that time, but I'm sure if they couldn't reach you within a few days they would email. You could also just send them a note to add to your file saying that you're unavailable by phone.

I think my friend just picked a date that worked for me. They then sent me an email with the date.

I am definitely contacting the admissions office to give them another number...thank you so much! 🙂

Thanks for the words of confidence! That's really good to know although a call today would be sweet.

Would you mind sharing your stats? And congratulations - all the best to you this year!

Got an II from here! So excited! Shands is an absolutely amazing hospital!

That's awesome! I'm trying to wait patiently. When were you complete and what are your stats?
Congratulations!

@Telemachus1

Friend, you're killing me. You could simply just ask everyone who received an interview to post their stats and date of completion in one post instead of replying 7 times in a row with the same question.

1. Willion1614 most likely used ranges so he can stay anonymous. "IS" means "in state" and "URM" means "Underrepresented in Medicine" (use to mean underrepresented minority).

2. NewTima did not receive an II (yet) he was responding to a poster who asked what II meant.

Sorry man. Duly noted.
