getting my health records all together for the vaccination records for UNMC has been an absolute mess!


if anyone has any questions about that, feel free to ask me and I may be able to help.


Vaccines they ask for if you want to get a head start on collecting your records:
MMR
Varicella
Tdap
PPD (Tuberculosis)
Hep B
Polio

If you are like me, and have had a positive PPD/TB skin test, they will want you to do a blood test. It is called the Interferon Gamma Release Assay (IGRA) to see if you have any TB in you. It will simply tell you if you have it or not, not make the distinction between active and latent TB. If you have had a positive skin test and/or a positive IGRA, the head of Student health at UNMC told me that I can elect to go on treatment which is apparently like one pill a day for many months.

If you are like me, and have records from your PCP that don't include Polio, you probably got it since it was a requirement for anyone around trad applicant age. After having them dig around my records, they found that I got the Oral Polio Vaccine (OPV) instead of the injection which is standard now. However, there are a few places that offer travel vaccines around me that had just straight up Polio vaccine, because my PCP only had the Polio mixed in with the other baby vaccines for a combination. Otherwise, if you can't prove you've had the vaccine they'll have to check for antibodies and if you don't have them you'll go on a round of 1-3 shots the travel vaccine guy told me.

Is there a deadline for when all letters will be sent out? I thought I heard March aaaand here we are lol

Hopefully someone else knows but I can't remember if Gigi said it was beginning, mid, or late March.

I am still waiting to hear back and interviewed October 10. Regardless, I believe I will be withdrawing my application unless I get the IS tuition waiver.
 
🙁 are all the accepted students not on SDN or what??? There are only 13 ppl in the FB group but I guess thats sourced from here.

I definitely didn't get anything in my letter about a facebook group. Although I have talked with a member in the facebook group (won't name names just to keep relative anonymity) about setting up a meet 'n greet day for our class in the springtime/early summer since UNMC doesn't do an accepted student day AFAIK. either like a mini-golf outing, a baseball game, trip to the zoo or something like that just to get to know everybody.

Most people in my class (current M1) didn't join the facebook page until later in the summer.

There really aren't any schools sponsored stuff until right around orientation week. A few of us set up a meeting before that though and just went to a bar for a few drinks.

Good to hear, I just think it'd be nice to start meeting a few ppl.

Not sure I have seen any stats on that but it seems like there must be a lot left unless a ton of the ppl aren't on SDN/in this thread

I'm sure this has been covered before, but does anyone know if there are merit-based scholarships, how often students get them, and when they can expect to find out about them? I've been told that the top 50% get some sort of scholarship, but I'm curious when you would find out if you are in this top 50%.
 
I got a Regents scholarship offer about one week after I sent in my seat deposit in early December via mail. It's full tuition for the first year but does not automatically renew every year.

I was wondering that as well. I thought Gigi said there are 8 or so full tuition scholarships per class( 4 regents and 4 by another name). There are other scholarships that you need to fill out a generalized application for but I don't know any of the specifics regarding numbers, amounts, or when we will be notified
 
Sad... I didn't get a scholarship offer lol 🙁
 
Another question I probably should've been asking a long time ago, but: for those of you who are accepted and sent in the $100 deposit, did you receive any sort of confirmation that this was received?

Now to wait for the snail mail?!?

This is killing me.. if I get a "No" then this will be the first post-interview rejection (super painful..) and if I get a "Yes" then this will be the first post-interview acceptance (super amazing!!!). So either way, I'm in for some SERIOUS emotional roller coaster action--and all because of a piece of paper. Time to prioritize my sanity and go walk my dog and smell the sea 🙂

Just got a call from my brother that mail from UNMC has arrived. He didn't tell me anymore info about the size of the letter or anything. Will be heading out of work in about an hour to go check!

Edit: Isn't waitlist an option?

I suppose there would be a waitlist option, lol!! But that would meam more stressful waiting....

Edit: GOOD LUCK!!!!! (Now I'm scared to go home...)
 
Rejected :/ oh well... Have been accepted to a state school already, thankfully.
