2014-2015 University of Texas - San Antonio Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I can't comment on if they're helpful or not, but I can tell you I sent the Dean of Admissions a Pre-II email stating my interest.

I got a response from him four hours later, "Thanks for this update."
That's a pretty brief response for him to give if my letter had any impact. Then again, time will tell!

+1. I hope we hear good news soon!

I wonder why they wanted to hand out interviews so early. There can't be more than 2-3 interview dates left b/c I think the next one after Dec. 15th is in January.

They aren't necessarily going in order. I got an II here before a friend, yet my date was a few weeks after his.

Are you sure you're talking about UT San Antonio? I think everyone got 4 dates to choose from and they're all moving later and later from this thread.

This may have been true if the invite was a few weeks ago. However, I had only one date to choose from (12/15).

Did you check to see if there was a January date? The next one after 12/15 should be 1/12, which is the last date according to someone in this thread, so you might have had 2 dates open.

I got my interview invite on August 5th and I chose the earliest date available to me (~mid-Sept) which was still a few weeks later than my friend who received his interview invite a couple of weeks after me and had a date available that was a week or two earlier than mine. 100% sure I'm talking about UT San Antonio haha

Perhaps now they have filled up dates and they are going in order.

oh wow, I didn't check in to January actually so that opens things up.

Oh no clue then

Does anyone know if the MS I/MS II informal mixer at the end of the day is optional or mandatory? I ask because I'm trying to figure out my travel arrangements.

BTW got "received" email 9/11 and they said interviews occur every Monday through December.
Stats: IS ~68 lizzy....Nothing from any school yet :/

does anyone know when the last day you can be accepted into a texas school is? I'm trying to plan for spring semester and will only take another bio class if I'm still in the running somewhere in TX... any info appreciated

If you interview somewhere, you are still in the running on Match Day, in February. After that, you can still be added from the waitlist at schools you've interviewed at. Keep going, this is a LONG process!

I'm not 100% certain, but I believe they look at the most recent, whether that's your highest or not. Having said that, we're supposed to release all our MCAT scores when we apply, so you'd have the ability to speak to why your most recent score is / isn't your best.

Again, not completely sure, but there ya go.

Does anyone know when they started to hand out acceptances to non-residents last year and the year before?

That's what I'm wondering myself. I know that later on it is okay to call schools if you have been wait listed. I have no idea about calling schools prior to receiving II though. I would hate to remain quiet all interview season for fear of appearing annoying only to simply receive a rejection in November with no other contact. You're saying you did apply to TCOM and interviewed there?
No i only applied to MD schools in TX. no DO, no any OOS. Wan transmitted on July 26th. No II yet and I am getting worried.. Not sure what went wrong, Good EC which included 80+ hours Research ar Rice Univ, 100+ volunteer, 80+ hrs doc shadows... etc

Nooo keep the faith and be patient. It's still early. You have amazing numbers. Somebody will invite you. We have really really similar numbers and even I have gotten interviews and I feel like I'm just an average applicant. It's really a humbling experience. Don't doubt! They will come I promise!
Thanks for the encouraging words, I am waiting... Let's see. Now I feel I should have applied OOS and DO in TX.

OOS maybe but don't say you should've applied DO if it wasn't in your plans to begin with. DOs are great and some ppl apply straight DO with 35+ MCATs (a friend of mine) but if you want to be an MD and that's what you applied for them wait and let time do its work. They'll come. Can't wait to see where you end up so you can look back at this and laugh lol

You have a beautiful app. The only weak point is your MCAT. But you have impressive qualifications otherwise. I am from the Caribbean, so your research on Chikungunya stands out to me. I think you have a fair shot! But most of us on SDN don't actually have an inside scoop on how the committee makes their decisions. Your best bet is to apply and see what happens. 🙂 🙂

So is Jan. 12th the only interview day left? It's crazy to think they've filled up all their spots so early.

Does everyone get a followup email from the dean saying they were impressed with your interview about a week later?

Yes, everyone receives that email! On my interview day, he told us it was so that we would have his email address in case we had any questions for him.

Flying in from NY, will be there Monday. Are you guys doing student housing?

Still no interview here 🙁 LizzyM 69 and transmitted 7/17
Did you get IIs from other MD colleges in TX? I hv similar stat as you and heaven't heard from any yet.

Does anyone know whem would ne the last IIs be sent for this admission cycle?

What are the chances of an interview in Spanish here? Anybody heard of that happening? Do they inform us of who we will be interviewing with beforehand?
