Awesome to have a chance in Texas!

Got my interview invite today!! Will be interviewing on Oct. 13!

II today! Super, super excited haha. 3.46GPA, 29MCAT.

(For anyone wondering how the hell I got an interview with those stats- I really messed up freshman year but rocked sophomore/junior year haha)

II today!

TMDSAS transmitted: 5/29
3.46 GPA, 31 MCAT, IS, non-URM, non-trad.

I had four options for interview dates, and chose October 20th.

does anyone know if it's possible/how to gain in-state residency for tuition purposes?

It requires property ownership and working (paying taxes) in the state for at least one or two years...it's pretty expensive and takes a while to do prior to applications

I thought I read somewhere that the Texas state schools give OOS students a $1,000 scholarship and if an OOS student gets any size scholarship, they get IS tuition. So, essentially everyone gets IS tuition.

how about buying a condo and a working wife?

I'm liking the sound of that!

That should work but it has to be at least a full year before the Tmdsas app deadline (Oct 1) of the year you are going to apply. It's all on the TMDSAS website with all the different ways to qualify for in state.

So you don't think I could pay OOS first year then switch for 2-4? I will look into that! thanks

Look into that^. Don't quote me on it, but I thought I did read that somewhere.

Also, if that doesn't work, you can just get a condo for a year, pay taxes on it, then get in state for years 2-4.

That I'm not sure of. I'm sure it would just depend on the school itself but I'm sure there's a way to make that happen.

This is what happens at BCM, I believe. OOS pay OOS tuition for Year 1 then they all get IS after that since they get condos their first year,

I would also do other things as soon as you get to Texas like get a TX drivers license, register and tag your vehicles in TX, and register to vote in TX. I think they would just mostly want to know you are going to stay and practice in TX once you are done.

When I started here all OOS students automatically got a scholarship that brought their tuition down to IS prices. Not sure if it's still done that way but I doubt it has changed.

@amad01 This is what I was referring to. I'm pretty sure all the public Texas medical schools do this too.

Wow that would be amazing! Hope they like me on interview day! 🙂

Mine were transmitted a couple of days after you (8/1), I've only gotten one II from a TX school so far. I guess all we can do is to just sit tight and wait (while checking our e-mail every 15 minutes).

Thanks for the reply. would you mind sharing your stats?
I was late in completing my secondaries too... completed a week back. How long after the secondary submission did you receive the II?

still the same, I just interviewed at A&M and the dean stated no one ever pays full price OOS tuition

Interview day was very laid back and welcoming. I can try and answer any questions about the day if that would help anyone. Good luck to everyone in the process!

oos. Just interviewed today! Honestly so, so incredibly impressed by the students, faculty, program, and overall experience of today. Excited for the prospects of attending!

Hello everyone. I'm local from SA and really want to go to UTHSCSA. Thought I would join this thread. Hope to meet some of you in the future! 😉 My application transmitted a few weeks ago but I just got my MCAT score.

Got that yesterday too. Any idea what their turn around time is with final decisions?
