Does anyone know how the social on Sunday night works? 🙂

You just show up and I think there were about 9 or 10 ms2s. Basically light snacks and a good opportunity to get any last minute questions you may have answered and get some insight about the opportunities offered that aren't super broadcasted.

I would recommend going if your schedule allows. I felt I took away a bit that I incorporated into my interviews and I felt I got a good sense of the culture of the school/student body. Also, it's nice for those pre-interview nerves to walk in the next day and know the names and faces of a few med students and fellow interviewees.

If you come away from the interview day with questions, it's your own fault. Between the social, the student panel, Dean Jones presentation, lunch, down time between interviews, and the post-interview "mix and mingle" you have tons of time and opportunities to ask questions and get multiple students' opinions on the school. I was very impressed by the amount of student involvement there was during the interview day and how excited the current students were to help the interviewees have a great day.

That is definitely true. We definitely had med students available to genuinely interact with throughout the whole day. The stude t engagement in the whole day was rather impressive. I just enjoyed the peace of mind of not having any small, lingering questions the night before. Especially being OOS I had a few questions that were probably a bit silly and it was nice to ask them in a more social setting 🙂

II! 3.84/31/ Transmitted 8/27 but MCAT score came out 9/7, probably transmitted two days later. I got an email at 10:00 at night on a Sunday - weird!?!

BTW, the dates are already after 11/15. Looks like they go into December.

anybody else OOS interviewing here? Man I really want to go to this school

Last interview date is 12/15 from housing form.

To anyone who has interviewed here-did you end up renting a car after flying in to SAT? I see that the health center is like 10 miles from the airport, so I was thinking about taking a cab but then I was worried about getting to the interview the next morning. Are the hotels suggested on the interview portal pretty close to the campus?

Last year I stayed at the Courtyard listed and took a cab to the interview. It was pretty close and the cab ride was pretty cheap (sorry I can't remember the exact cost). I'm going to stay there again this year. It was very convenient! It isn't near any restaurants, but the hotel has a "bistro" inside and you can get the food to-go.

Super helpful! Thanks 🙂

Anyone want to elaborate on the law regarding getting residency for in state tuition when you are OOS?

In particular im curious about the scholarship rule where if you get a competitive scholarship, you pay in state tuition.

If you're awarded a $1000 or more scholarship you can get in-state tuition.

Nope, from what I understand all of the Texas schools award in-state tuition to OOS applicants if they get at least $1000 scholarship, they just don't like to broadcast it.

I Hotwired a hotel in the Riverwalk area, ended up getting the best Western for ~50 a night which pretty much paid for my rental car if I were to have stayed at the Marriott. It was a pretty nice option and I enjoyed having the freedom to drive around and explore a bit.

It can't be that easy, there has got to be some caveat.
Yeahh, it sounds too good to be true. But it is true! I remember Dr. Jones mentioning it and also saying that essentially every OOS student has been able to meet all the requirements..so I'm hopeful that if there are caveats, they aren't too stringent.

Well they interview into January, so there are still a few dates available

Scary. They are sending II nine weeks in advance. So that means last IIs will be going out early November. I've been complete here since 6/26 with Lizzy M of 67.6 and no II.

II today. First available date was first week in December...eek.

I worked on a PhD at UTHSCSA and loved it but resigned into a career....I know a lot of Profs. that teach here and was just at University Hospital with my mother. The teaching hospital is wonderful and the Profs here are amazing. I laugh though because one of my old colleagues said he would prefer TCOM. But those of you who will be in school here will like it and it is my top choice.

Anyone here have a low MCAT score that has gotten an invite here this year?

II invite today for me also. I can verify that the first available date was December 1st. Other available dates were Dec 8, 15 and Jan 12.

And CharlesLehnhoff, my MCAT was <30 but is completely outweighed by my life experiences.

I finally stopped lurking and made an account to mention how nervous this application cycle has made me, especially for UTHSCSA.
I'm a non-traditional applicant, 30 MCAT / 3.5 sGPA / 3.4 overall, and I've lived in San Antonio for years. I haven't heard from a single MD school in Texas yet; just the one DO program in Fort Worth.
I figured that I would at least I would be able to get my foot in the door at UTHSCSA considering I literally live 10 minutes from campus, but it's hard to stay positive with so few interview dates left.

Alas. : /.

Keep heart. It's not over until it's over and there are dates left. Your stats do look a little low, but there's still a chance.

I have low stats but I'm still holding out hope. I also was able to score an interview at TCOM. I would be very happy to go there. Nothing from any MD programs yet either.

Yeah, it's the joy of handling newborns over two semesters. My GPA managed to go down .2 right before I finished my application. I don't look the best on paper, but I like to think I can make a good account of myself if I can just get my foot in the door.
In the case of San Antonio, that may be a LITERAL foot in the door if I don't hear from them in the next few weeks. ;-)

Tell me about it. Over a few semesters of being the primary caregiver for my mother as she battled ovarian cancer, my gpa dropped from a 3.97 to a 3.84. Not complaining about that gpa, but I'd certainly like the other better.

This is going to sound silly and super premature, but on anyone else's "School Rank Preference" on TMDSAS for those who have interviewed here, does it only show "UT SOM San Antonio-San Antonio Clin Ed Campus" instead of showing both the SA campus and South Texas Clinical Ed campus? I definitely applied to both.

Yes it is missing from mine as well. This rank system has been very delayed, so I bet by January it should get added 😉

I am in the same boat....33/3.7/IS, didn't hear from any MD college yet. I thought my stats were good for atleast the lowest ranked MD school in TS; so didn't apply to DO os OS🙁 will keep waiting... Should I call them??

That's what I'm wondering myself. I know that later on it is okay to call schools if you have been wait listed. I have no idea about calling schools prior to receiving II though. I would hate to remain quiet all interview season for fear of appearing annoying only to simply receive a rejection in November with no other contact. You're saying you did apply to TCOM and interviewed there?

what is this school ranking you speak of

what is this school ranking you speak of

If you're OOS then you don't rank the Texas state schools and you are under rolling admissions beginning in October. Texas residents rank the schools they have interviewed at as part of the match process.

Nooo keep the faith and be patient. It's still early. You have amazing numbers. Somebody will invite you. We have really really similar numbers and even I have gotten interviews and I feel like I'm just an average applicant. It's really a humbling experience. Don't doubt! They will come I promise!

When did you have your application transmitted?

I regret not scheduling my interview for earlier date.. I'll be there early November I'm OOS hoping there's a chance for a spot in the class.. Looks like msar says about 20 something OOS matriculated anybody know how many accepted? This my top choice

Anybody know about what percentage of interviewed applicants are accepted? Can't wait to interview!

Pre-II letter of interest to this school? Helpful or not?

I can't comment on if they're helpful or not, but I can tell you I sent the Dean of Admissions a Pre-II email stating my interest.

I got a response from him four hours later, "Thanks for this update."
That's a pretty brief response for him to give if my letter had any impact. Then again, time will tell!
