2015-2016 Duke University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I just called Duke's office of admissions to ask a quick question and when no one answered I wanted to leave a quick voicemail, but had to wait through a solid minute and a half message about how it's much easier to email them. Although not sure what to do because I've emailed them 3 or 4 times since October and have yet to receive a single reply.

Can someone tell me about the Parlour hangout with med students & interviewees?
I read that somewhere here, but I haven't heard about it directly from Duke yet, and I'd love to know when it is so I can join them.

I went through my email history, and found that I was contacted for the Parlour hangout four days before my interview. Since the event was the day before my interview, that means you get a three-day notice. Apparently the person who organizes it is very on-the-ball, so unless it's less than three days before your interview and you haven't been notified, I wouldn't worry.

How did you send the update? via email or portal? can you send an update pre-II? thanks!

Did you guys receive confirmation that the office got your update? I sent in an update recently and did not get any sort of reply, although I had for a previous update a few months ago.

I sent it via email! I have not got a confirmation yet. However I have read before that it takes about a week or so to receive the confirmation. We shall see!!

Students will be there from 7-9 p.m. the night before your interview. It's a fun time. I assume information will be included in one of the pre-interview emails.

Odd Duke rejection email just received (i.e. You're rejected but it's only official on March 1):

Also note all the spelling and grammar mistakes!

Definitely oddest rejection email yet...haha

If I may read between the lines, I think they're essentially saying:

'We've invited everyone we care to interview... but if someone does not take their invitation, then maybe someone else will get one. But highly unlikely and for sure no-one after Feb11.'

Yeah..well the wait from the end of July comes to an end. I assumed Columbia, Cornell, Harvard are all done handing out interviews too right? My hope all rests on UCLA now or I can just sit back and enjoy my last semester as an undergrad!

Just got that e-mail too. Just sent them a big update last week too, oh well.

I actually think it's a nice rejection letter. The wording is kind of odd but it's a nice refreshing change from "We regret...", "Has decided not to...", or just plain "Rejected." I felt like I was let down easy.

Received the same "rejection" email. Oh well, Blue Devils, may be I'll see you around during the residency application cycle. Best of luck to all.

Funny, I got this too, but never completed the secondary or paid the fee. You can't reject me Duke, I rejected you first!

Maybe I'll reject Duke a few more times, just for fun. Ha ha ha

Any recent interviewees have any updates as to when we're supposed to get our decisions? I interviewed so long ago I can't even remember- the portal says March 1st, but looking at previous threads, I think it says that every year.

i interviewed early Jan, and they said we would know early March. whether that means March 1 or march 15 is unclear.

Oh god, if they never clarify that could potentially be an agonizing two week wait if decisions go out on the 15th.

I interviewed at the end of November and was told they would ideally like to start notifying people by the end of February. Their second look weekend is March 12/13 so they told us they're hoping to give people some time to make the arrangements to visit campus again.

Does anyone have any information on the criteria for the MD/MBA program?

Wait second look weekend is March 12/13??? That's so early! That's my spring break and I've already made plans :/

Hoping I get in that is....

According to MSAR this year decisions go out on March 1st.

Are you sure it isn't April? How can it be so early?

The good news (if that is true) I guess is that that basically guarantees that decisions will be released at least a week before then (which is still very little notice).

NOTE: THIS IS ALL SECOND HAND AND SHOULD NOT BE TAKEN AS GOSPEL

1. The last interviews were just completed.

2. Second Look Weekend is 3/18-3/20. I think it's early to avoid overlapping with other schools.

3. I have no idea when decisions will come out but March 1 sounds like a good date.

4. Duke is awesome.

5. Come to Duke.

Wish you the best.
Succinct and informative, it's a 5/5 from me. Thanks!

Time to let go of this thread. Best of luck to those who interviewed and are waiting for decisions!!!

Which email have you guys been sending updates too? It looks like they have 2 emails: [email protected] and [email protected]? I didn't realize but I ask because for my updates I haven't heard received any reply.
I feel like I've tried the mc.duke email with a total of 5 emails since September and have never received a response, so that's been my experience.

Same weekend as UNC's second look. ... and my sister's wedding. Guess I'll be missing both second looks. (Or just one, if I don't get in to Duke!)

Obviously you need to tell your sister to move her wedding. Priorities. (I didn't go to Duke's Second Look and was not worse for it, but it's a good time) If you get into both, the choice becomes whether you like winning NCAA championships and rivalry games...or not.
I feel like you might be a little biased 😉

anyone else have spring break during second look weekend? Deciding if I should book my flight for the beach or wait to possibly book a flight to NC.

Same here, except I already booked a trip months ago. Looks like I won't be attending second look here if I am lucky enough to be accepted.

Are we thinking zero percent chance decisions come out sometime this week?
