2015-2016 Georgetown University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Agreed with all of the above, complete 7/17 and very confused/scared for what's coming with this silence.

Complete 7/16. I just feel they haven't gotten to me yet!

If I'm not mistaken, the latest II was 7/14 (complete) and the latest rejection was 7/22 (complete). So my guess is that after they isolate the for-sure rejections, they discuss a little more to select the ones who will get II. and hence the nonsynchronous II and R release schedule. So I think if you were completed in between, 7/14 and 7/22, you may or may not get an II soon. But pre-7/14 completes still in the waiting is not necessarily a bad thing either in my opinion.

In general, what is the time frame for hearing back from schools about IIs? 4-6 weeks?

Think about it! Each school has a different process in terms of rolling/nonrolling and their internal efficiencies. Even if someone told you "4 weeks" that would be just as reliable as any similar random number haha

More than a week after I got rejected my status still says "under review". What are the chances, the 'Reject' was a mistake? Clinging to that last straw 🙂

Don't mean to disappoint you, but I think you should just move on. It's still really early and I am sure you will get many IIs! If it was indeed a mistake, they will contact you and you got nothing to lose!

Completely agree. From last year's thread, it seems like ppl have waited almost 8 weeks before they got an II or a rejection! I think if they have moved past your date of submission and you haven't heard anything, it just means that you did not make the first cut, which sucks, but they didn't reject you either. This seems analogous to GW's "on-hold for review" status. In another month, we might get a decision. We just need to be patient and wait for the decision email!

I received an II and my status still says "under review", even though I've already scheduled. Unfortunately, I think they just don't update their portal. Chin up, though! Plenty of fish in the sea 🙂

I think I'm on the 22nd? but I'll be in DC for a few days beforehand to explore

I'll be there that Saturday-Monday. I wonder if we can have an SDN coffee meetup on Sunday, the 20th? It would definitely relieve some stress 🙂

That would be great! Plus, I never turn down coffee 😛

Dang! You dashed that one sliver of hope I had 🙁

Just kidding. Good Luck to you at the Interview.

😀 All come hither to DC the land of policies and food \o/
Lots of food.
Would there be a "communication" change in the portal if i got rejected/II?
I am getting so paranoid about emails and accidentally erasing them and what not.

There will be an interview tab in your portal if you've been invited to interview 😉

My first II! Sept 29th, I'm so pumped! I feel like Georgetown would be a perfect fit for me

I've looked through this thread (albeit not super thoroughly) but didn't think anyone had asked so I'll give it a shot - has anyone attended one of GUSOM's summer info sessions? If so, what was it like/do you think it has any bearing on the admissions process whatsoever? Or at least did it give you a more comprehensive view of the school/make you pray that much harder to get in? (Most importantly: what is the dress code?! lol)

I attended the one last month. Dress code was casual. It looked like a lot of students dressed like they were coming from class. I opted for a business casual dress, but it honestly didn't matter. You sit in an auditorium type classroom and listen to the admissions director speak for an hour so not much actual interaction. I'm not sure if it has any impact on admissions, but we can hope... Overall, the info session was informative, gave a good overview of what they are looking for in an applicant, and made me better understand what sets Georgetown apart.

I was watching a bit from Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, and he was talking about DC. Loved it. I think it was a recent episode. Taxation without representation 😛

On a side note... looks like I'll be flying into Baltimore and taking the train down on Saturday the 22nd. Cheapest flight I could find. I'm staying with a good friend that's going to show me around the area. Can't wait!!!!! Interview is Monday and then fly out Tuesday.

Have fun everyone! I live in the DC area and work within about a 15-20 minute walking distance from Georgetown, so I hope you all enjoy it 🙂 hoping for an II at some point, but who knows. Fortunately, I am not II-less, so at least there's that!

Hahaha I keep thinking that about Tulane!! Hopefully we'll cross paths this interview season 🙂

Hopefully!, If we end up in New Orleans on the same date, you'll have to show me all the food 😀

I got the secondary on July 1st and haven't actually written it yet (others schools got in the way). Should I even bother? I feel like they wouldn't be interested in someone who waited beyond the 4 weeks.

Why am I so crazy paranoid... I honestly keep thinking that they forgot to e-mail/I accidentally erased an e-mail telling me of my rejection status.

Hey everyone! So I'm in a bit of a pickle here. I took my MCAT in January just before they changed the exam which caused me to make some VERY bad decisions. I took it twice because after the first time I took it I felt like I did absolutely horrible and panicked! I didn't want prepare for an entirely new exam if I actually did horrible so I registered for another exam...BEFORE GETTING MY FIRST SCORE BACK.

First score: 29 (9-VR, 10-BS, 10-PS)
Second score: 27 (7-VR, 11-BS, 9-PS)

27!!!! 🙁 🙁 🙁 with a 7 in verbal!!!! :'(

I was averaging 31s on my practice exams 🙁.

Anyway. I'm applying now and don't know what to do! Do you guys think it's better to address this in the additional comments section in secondary applications? or to not address it at all?? I want to explain this whole situation but I don't want it to seem like an excuse for getting a bad score.

For perspective, I have a 4.00 gpa in a molecular and microbiology major. Also, I think I have significant clinical experience ( ER scribe, volunteering, shadowing) and volunteer experience.

What should I do?! 🙁

Some schools superscores (i.e. george washington), which gives you a 30.. so apply to those schools.

Personally I would NOT apply this year and then be reviewed as a re applicant the year after, after getting rejected, which is likely.

Take the year to really study and do well, maybe take an SMP. Good luck!

Also if you were applying this year with that score, you probably would have benefited from turning in your app day 1 - now is kind of late.... Again, just my opinion tho - only you know what's best for yourself!

I applied in the beginning of July and just got a bunch of secondary requests back so I was thinking about how to address it in my secondaries... it's too late to not apply now because I already did lol. I just wanted advice going forward. I realize I'm not in the top percent of applicants but I have other things to offer (like strong GPA and strong extracurriculars).. If I don't get in this year I will definitely take the new exam but I want to see if I can get in this cycle before doing that.

Do they really hype on the Jesuit part? I'm an atheist and totally not ok with anything remotely like a religious environment. I wouldn't mind as long as they don't mention it too much.

You need to stop posting this all over the place. School-specific threads are not the appropriate locations to look for this kind of advice. Try the "what are my chances" area instead. Also- your score is not good. Like it or not, the MCAT is considered to "level the playing field" for people coming from different schools.
