2015-2016 Louisiana State University - Shreveport Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Yes, New Orleans sends their secondary application before the verification process is complete. Hmm, I don't know about Shreveport, you could always call them to ask.

It says on Shreveport's website that they send secondary's before aamcs verifies apps.

Does anyone know if all letters of rec have to be in before getting a secondary? I cant remember from last cycle. Cant find any info on that.

I think they send them out before all letters are in but im not sure. I think I got my Shreveport secondary before my final letter arrived earlier this month. Afp, you ready for another year?

I haven't had my committee letter sent in yet and I already submitted a secondary.

Got update today, Application complete!! Anybody know when they will start sending out interview invites for ED apps?

So I got my update today (!!). Next to interview it says:Your application is under consideration for a possible interview.
They don't have my letter yet because my letter is still being written. Is this a common occurrence? People shouldn't go under consideration until they have a letter in? Right?

Haha yes indeed. Reluctantly but yes. Still on the waitlist man?

Dangit. I have had my primary submitted for over a month and still no secondary from Shreve.

Yes, I thought they were trying to remind me of something I forgot to do.
I just checked my bank account. I think they sent another update because they deposited my cheque. Maybe that is the reason for the multiple updates. At least, I hope I havent forgotten anything

Nvm got my secondary Friday and sent that sucker out this morning. Woohoo!

Did everyone or anyone write the diversity paper mentioned in the secondary?

Lafayette? I think I've been there before for kayaking! Atchafalaya National Wildlife Refuge is my favorite place though.

Lake Martin is in Breaux Bridge but I am from Lafayette! Been to Atchafalaya Refuge with the yak to do some fishing plenty of times. Both beautiful places!

Congrats! ED?

For those of you who got interviews with new mcat scores, what did y'all get? Are they only going to look at applications with people who broke into the 500's?

So when should regular decision individuals start hearing about interviews?

Primary submitted to Shreveport a few weeks ago (not yet verified), but still haven't received a secondary despite their website saying that they send them out to not-yet-verified applicants. I noticed a few other people in this boat, so I'll call today or tomorrow and report back.

Good luck, everyone!

So when should regular decision individuals start hearing about interviews?

Right around the middle of September or a little earlier. First interviews are usually at the beginning of October.

Are the old MCATs no longer considered? I'm looking through MSAR and it says they're only considering the new MCATs but I heard from someone they are still accepting the old ones (<3 years old)

Yep, if they are in the past 3 years you can absolutely use them.

When I called last year they said only the new MCAT would be accepted for 2016 entering class but of course, they could have changed that.

"While the MCAT changed significantly in April 2015, our three-year rule still applies. Thus, applicants matriculating in July 2016 and July 2017, can submit scores from both the old and/or new MCAT as long as they meet our three-year rule. Only the new MCAT (MCAT2015) will be considered after that. "

That is if you have not taken it yet. I took mine in September of 2013 and I can still apply next year with that score.

Has anyone had their secondary submitted for over a week without getting a confirmation email? I have had my secondary in for roughly two weeks and not a peep.

Have you gotten your file updates saying it was in? I don't think I received one last week

Nope. I remember them confirming its arrival after submitting my secondary last time which is why I am wondering. Perhaps they are flooded with secondaries/letters of rec.

Already got 2 rejections from my favorite reaches. Would it be too late to just add Shreveport to my AMCAS right now especially since I'm a native Louisianian? 3.5/31 and currently earning M.S.

Unfortunately I believe Shreveport is only accepting 2015 MCATS (unless you converted your score to the old scale)

Thank you for the clarification. Mine was taken 08/14 so I was off from the new one by 4 months . But good luck to you guys, hope we all get in to where we want.

EDIT: Oh okay, thanks for correction Jaba

Woops you're right, they do in-fact take the old one. Well my pre-med consolers lied to me then, surprise surprise! From their website:

MCAT scores no more than 3 years old are required, i.e. scores must be from a test taken no more than 36 months before registration.

While the MCAT changed significantly in April 2015, our three-year rule still applies. Thus, applicants matriculating in July 2016 and July 2017, can submit scores from both the old and/or new MCAT as long as they meet our three-year rule. I'm sure your adviser didn't mean to lie and probably was saying the truth at the time. I remember Shreveport stating this last year but I guess their admissions office were bombarded with so many calls that they quickly changed it afterwards.

Yeah I assume their reasoning was not only that a lot of people who wanted to go there had the old MCAT and didn't want to retake it but they, including I, spent a lot of money and time studying for it assuming we had 3 years and just saying that it didn't count anymore is kind of unethical.

Right, hence the reason I said that they could have changed that.

Now, everyone knows!

so uhh.. anyone want to be brave and post what mcat score they are applying with? its so frustrating not being able to tell whether or not we should retake the test. I keep getting told that even though the average is 500, the average was actually lower for LA residents... anyone (lurkers feel free to join in) have any info regarding MCAT scores being looked at (ie, whats being screened out)?

My wife got around a 490 on the new version after going 24 then 28 on the old version. She interviewed today in Shreveport for early decision. People get so bogged down on MCAT scores. Yes, having a competitive MCAT will help your chances but there are so many more factors that go into making a good applicant. I'm a first year and I know there are people in my class that got in the 25 range on the old MCAT.

thanks for the insight! it really is a relief hearing that. I have other good aspects of my application, its just when you are told anything below 500 and youre done for, its not a good feeling.

What does a 500 equate to in the old one?
