After reading some people's post I was wondering if I'm at a disadvantage being from Gwinnett County. There's absolutely nothing rural about my application, and I went to undergrad in a major city. I also don't want to practice in a rural area at all. Am I ignorant to think I have a chance at this school?

If you made it known in the interviews that you do NOT want to serve in rural and/or underserved areas of Georgia, then your chances are slim to none (Mercer is very mission oriented). If however, you kept that information to yourself, assuming your stats, ECs and LORs are in line, anything's possible. Keep in mind, Mercer overinterviews consistently, so an interview is by no means a guarantee of acceptance (whereas MCG has around 60% post interview acceptance rate).

I'm not at all trying to be condescending...by what makes you want to go to Mercer if you don't at ALL share their mission?

Many students match non-primary care and OOS. Some students apply to Mercer for the sake of getting into an allopathic school, which is perfectly fine IMO, as the majority due contribute to the primary care needs of underserved/rural areas of Georgia.

Is there a way to withdrawal besides calling? The office seems to be closed for the break and I'd like to give them as much notice as possible before my early Jan interview date.

I got the acceptance package but I also got a campus request form to fill out and send back so I was wondering when I would know. It sounds like the already assigned some people though so hopefully it'll be soon!

I'm going to Savannah, they get back to me pretty fast after I submitted it. I would send it in ASAP if u have a campus you really care about going to!!!

Did everyone who has interviewed thus far receive an email titled "Timeline for Notification on Admissions Decisions for Interviewed Applicants"? I have a theory that they may send this email after your application has joined the meeting pool...either that or they send it to all applicants who inquire about their admission status.

I got that email a few days after the november meeting, and i interviewed in november...i think your first theory sounds about right haha!

I applied ED and was accepted in the first adcom meeting. I interviewed in Macon and really enjoyed it. My stats were not super stellar, but I fit the Mercer style. I have loved Mercer's curriculum. The PBL system is a lot of hard work, but very rewarding. I have friends at other schools that are lectured based and they rarely open a textbook, I don't like that style at all. I really like independent learning and group-think on topics. It's a ton of reading, but definitely not insurmountable. Overall I am a happy (but stressed) med student, which if you've fished around SDN for a little bit is not necessarily a norm. The curriculum for the next class is changing (which is a good thing). They are taking some of the things that are so-so and making them better. Let me know if anyone has any further questions about Mercer, life in Macon (sorry Savannah), or anything else.

I interviewed in early November and didn't get in until the end of March when I went through all this. I know waiting sucks but everyone keeps your heads up! It's still on and there's still a LOT of time on the clock!

Truth be told all I did was get a job and wait. I lived at home so I saved mulah. However I'm sure keeping the school informed on your activities can't hurt. You want to come here? Go out and get either some volunteer work like at the free clinic (Macon has a great one...but I'm sure most cities do), or if you're lucky like I was you can land a menial (or not so menial depending on your training) job in health care. Just do something. You really can't go wrong apart from just sitting around. Let me know if that helps!

Pharm tech is really easy to get into. Always need pharm techs, and it gives you a different perspective on how MD's interact with the other side of healthcare.

Be yourself and be honest. They know you're smart enough to do the work, now they wanna see if you fit in. Remember that everyone has a say on you, and that includes the student ambassadors. Try to be as chill as possible. I know that's way easier said than done. Oh and finally, act like you want to be here. I can't tell you how many kids I've heard about who were either "better than" or who were just dull. Be excited! It's exciting!

Silver lining is, you haven't been rejected yet. So an II is still a possibility! You never know!

To those who have already interviewed - anyone know when the next committee meeting will be? I thought it was either this week or next week, but can't remember. Either way, good luck everyone!

I was under the impression the committee meets the 3rd Wed of every month...could be wrong though.

When I interviewed recently they told us they'd be meeting this Wednesday (1/20). Also told us they have 67 spots left and are interviewing a total of 375. They said most interviewers will call if you're accepted after the meeting.

It's gonna be 60/60. I think she said they'd accepted 53 early so maybe that's where that number is coming from!

Yeah I think she meant that there will be 67 total acceptances from 375 interviews for RD. I don't think she was taking into account those that have already been accepted regular. Yess we will only 2 more days!

So it looks like they stop sending interview invites on Feb 1... Tried calling the admissions office but it has gone to voicemail every time 🙁... Anyone else I should try calling?

Maybe try emailing [email protected]? This address should go to all the admissions counselors in the office so it usually doesn't take too long for them to respond to that address.

They will most likely call people in the morning. I mean if I was stuck in a meeting for two hours, hell no am I staying late to call people telling them they got accepted.

But then there are exceptions and stuff...

I don't know, I just know there is a strong chance I didn't get in this time since it would make things too easy. Things are rarely too easy for me.

I hope that's the case. But I thought they met at 5. I'm not positive about that, but that's what I thought I remembered from last year. Maybe they'll still call people tonight (or maybe they really are waiting until the morning). Some people have gotten calls at like 9 at night before so who knows?

I was called the night of the meeting, but it wasn't until like 2130-2200. Someone who interviewed the same date as me wasn't called until the next morning...so relax.

The emotional buildup and subsequent let down on this day for the last couple of months has easily been the hardest part about applying to school.

With that said, I hope everyone is trying to stay positive and optimistic about this and the other schools to which you may have applied/interviewed.
