whoops, here it is:

IS, complete 8/2, II 9/22, 28 mcat, 3.8 undergrad, 4.0 grad.
 
For those who have interviewed here, how big are the interview groups? How many interview groups are there per day? I'm just trying to see how many people they plan on interviewing this cycle? Did the admissions staff say how many people they will interview this year?
 
Hello. OOS. My secondary app was received on 9/10 and my mcat score was released on 9/22. Should I call them next week and check on my app?

There were 40 people across both sessions. One of the med students let slip that they are interviewing less total people this year - I think he said 500? Don't quote me on that though!

By session, do you mean per interview day? Or do they have multiple sessions per day? I think last year they interviewed around 570ish. I noticed they have a lot more interview days this year.
 
Anyone have any interview advice? I'm planning to wait for the October 17th to open up because it works with my schedule better than the 9th (EMT class has a big test that weekend, and it would be tough to get back in time). I saw on interview feedback that there were 2 traditional questions, 2 acting and 6 others. (guessing one of the trad questions will be "Why medicine?" and the other could be a toss up). Also, what is an acting question?
 
It looks like it's taking uacom - Tucson approxiamately 5-7 weeks to get back after receiving your secondary to receive any sort of update about interviews. This sound about right?

Current student at UACOM just passing by--they will have more interview dates this year but FEWER interviewees per session. There has been a lot of change between this year and last in terms of how they are running interviews.
The talk is that they will hold more interviews altogether to match the increase in applications, but that is not set in stone. Good luck!

So are they interviewing more people this year then? I was just told today by another UACOM-Tucson med student that they are interviewing fewer people this year?

Like I said, it's not set in stone so I can't say definitively one way or another.. but having spoken to the head of admissions, she mentioned they were keeping an open mind to the increase in applications in terms of interview numbers. Interesting another medical student heard differently! :shrug:

I heard this as well. But who knows.
 
Set to interview 10/9....does anyone know how much weight they place on grades/mcat? It seems odd they look at those after the interview.

Does UA-Tucson accept activities updates to be added to my application? I have tried calling the admissions office the past two days, but have not been able to reach anyone.

From what I understood at my interview they do not. They said they only want updates after you are accepted.

I was also wondering how many people they are interviewing this cycle, so I called the admissions office a few days ago to ask this question; they told me they are shooting for 400-500 this year (last year they interviewed around 600). But now you're saying they are interviewing more; I'm sure you guys have the inside scoop on admissions stuff, so now I'm confused:-/

There are 2 sessions per day, 20 ppl each, and they get split into two groups of 10 that go through the MMI stations.

I was told less by a med student at my interview... He said they were interviewing 500? That said, it's out of our hands so we shouldn't stress over it.

I interviewed here recently and one of the admissions people told us they have had 5,700 applications this year, are planning on interviewing 420 applicants, and accepted 198 last year for a class of 115. Those are fewer interviews and more applicants than last year. My impressions of the school: the medical students were chill and seemed cool, and they seemed to care about their students. They have an advising center students use to learn how to best prepare for applying to residency. The step 1 scores were average and many students seem to get into good residencies. I like Tucson's smaller town feel and warm weather. They encourage students to learn Spanish and provide opportunities to do so. A student told me getting involved with research wasn't too hard for her. They have a global health track, undeserved track, among other distinction tracks. I am a HUGE MMI fan as I feel they are fair. I didn't like a few of the stations but I still prefer MMIs to traditional interviews. Get good at thinking and talking on the spot and how to talk with angry people. Also, they said they try to make the admissions process fair but not accepting everyone outright when they start accepting kids in the beginning of November. This means people are accepted throughout the admissions process to negate giving a huge advantage to those who applied early. Buena suerte a todos!
 
For those that have interviewed, what building did you check-in at? I cannot find any info on where to go exactly.

You will check in at the student lounge inside the college of medicine, connected to Banner University Medical Center Tucson. There will be signs directing you where to go if you enter via the College of Medicine lobby.
 
Also....for those that have already interviewed was there a place to put your bag (s)? I'm going to have to check out of my hotel room before the interview since I'm group 3. Definitely packing light!

They did give us a place to put our bags and luggage during the interview day. However, during the last part of the interview day (during the tour for me) they did have everyone get their bags out of the room because they were locking it for the day. I didn't have anything to store, but I believe they stored everything in one of the admissions office rooms. My guess is that they will have learned from that and use a new room to store things now. But long story short. Yes, you will have a place to store your stuff. Lol.

Your hotel should have a room where you can store luggage after check out. But you'd need a way to get back to it after the interview. I left mine in my rental car's trunk.

There are many sites that have sample questions for MMIs. Also go on YouTube for tips on how to approach certain questions. UA has each applicant sign an NDA so specific questions cannot be discussed.

Sorry about all of the rejections, everyone. Best of luck at your other schools! Maybe Tucson is getting a move on for all of those Sept completed apps.
