Just got my email...sent my app a few weeks ago...guess that's what i get for applying too late...or maybe i never even had a chance lol
 
Rejected post-secondary. Reach school, but still sucks. Good luck to everyone still in the running!
 
Rejected pre-secondary, OOS.

513MCAT (11,10,14,10), 3.97 masters gpa, lower ugpa, AMCAS received 7/27. Recs sent to AMCAS around 8/15.

This was one of my top choices, but I understand it is very hard to get into from out of state. At least I made the first big cut at UCLA, and am also under review at USC.

Yeah I'm really sorry--I'm in your situation for many other schools as well. The waiting drives us all nuts but (and this can't be said enough) don't spend too much time on SDN, it'll drive you insane. Knowing other people's scores and knowing what makes them stand out does not make your application better and does not speed your review process along. Make sure you occupy yourself with other fun things,to distract you from the wait. And remember, SDNers tend to be more neurotic than others, so it is still early in the process. schools have many applicants to go through and it's not a linear process. Interviewing in the spring is not a waitlist-sentence by any means. It's not over til it's over!

I am the complete opposite of you. Didn't receive a secondary from UCLA and rejected from USC. Received a secondary from UCSD. My MCAT is just two points lower and my GPA is the same as your masters. Strange how this process works.

I'm with you on that. Also radio silence from UCLA and rejected from USC. Got an II for this place yesterday.

I see. Thanks for the clarification. My portal says they received my AMCAS on 9/08, so hopefully they will get to my application soon!

Yeah, somewhat of a crapshoot. Ironically I actually lived in San Diego for 2.5 years when I was younger, but without their secondary I didn't have the opportunity to mention that.

While USC and UCLA are my two top remaining choices (due to location -- I will relocate back to Southern California long-term as soon as I am able to), I would be happy just getting an MD acceptance somewhere.

I got rejected pre-secondary as well, which surprises me a little only because they hadn't received my MCAT score yet (wrote on 9/23). There must have been something else that didn't line up with them. Oh well. UCSD was definitely not my top choice but it wasn't my last choice either. I still have around 18 to hear from, so I'm sure I'll get some interview invitations once those MCAT scores are released!!! Good luck, everyone!

She said she also remembers receiving an invite from Irvine after she interviewed at UCSD. She is an awesome person and anyone who has interviewed here already may have met her because she was one of the interviewers.

Hahaha I think I might have interviewed with your friend! Did she interview 9/15? I had a 4th year med student talk with me, and she was very welcoming and made me (and I'm assuming all the interviewees) feel comfortable 🙂 Wishing her the best!

Something similar happened to me and I just chalked it up to an auto rejection without asking. Not saying that is accurate, but anyways, I reapplied this year and managed to snag an II so if it doesn't work out this cycle for some reason don't lose hope 🙂

May I just ask to verify, you didn't mean "pre" secondary did you? It seems others said "pre" so I am just curious how UCSD is doing this.
 
Has anyone who has submitted AMCAS in August heard back from the school yet? I called admissions office and they don't go by when you complete your secondary. Your application is reviewed in the order in which they receive your AMCAS primary application.
 
Has anyone here gotten an II for the MD/MAS clinical research program?

That's interesting. I submitted AMCAS on 7/21 but my MCAT scores weren't released until 8/18. I received my secondary on 8/27 and submitted it on 9/4. No word yet...
 
Comeonnnnnn UCSD, you can do better than this. Disappointed in the double delay :/

It is interesting though how they're delaying so that they can complete more interviews. I wonder what the reasons for this are as well as the implications of doing so

No, I meant post. I submitted my secondary 7/29.

Not sure if she did that day or not. She was a away from SD for awhile doing a rotation.

Submitted AMCAS 06/30/2015 and complete at UCSD on 09/05/2015.

I'm not sure if my EC's stood out or not. I didn't do much wet lab research (only 1 semester), but I did have 2500 hours of epidemiological research. I also scribed for a year at a cardiology office and trained two scribes at the family medicine division over at Stanford. However, epidemiology research is really easy and everyone scribes nowadays, so I'm not too sure. My essays were compelling, but not awe-inspiring. I think the biggest thing that stood out in my essays was keeping it real and being honest haha.

Yup, I am apparently not a great applicant EC-wise and I have very poor writing/interviewing skills. Basically every mistake you could make as an applicant I have made at some point. If I have to reapply again then I might just go insane haha...
 
What % of people who interview are accepted? And can anyone give me more info on the clinic tour that valorain mentioned?!

I was told it's something ~15-25% accepted, ~50% waitlisted (which is basically a rejection here), ~25% rejected
Apparently higher percentages of people are accepted from earlier interviews with the %accepted dropping over time. This could be because they give "strong applicants" interviews as soon as possible, so it would make sense that these earlier interviews would have higher %accepted (not just that they randomly decide to give more acceptances to earlier interviewees).

I don't know if this will still hold true this year, considering that they're delaying sending out acceptance information in order to interview more students. Maybe the students this year just aren't as good as they had hoped? Who knows. I'm just sitting here sad that I had to shell out a few hundred more bucks that I might've been able to save if I had heard good news today.

Ahh that makes sense. Looks like I'm interviewing pretty late in the season 🙁 but I guess we will see! I feel your pain with the $$. Best of luck!! 🙂

Sounds about right. Per MSAR, 727 interviews for 124 matriculants which is about 17%. Considering shuffling and a bit of waitlist movement 15-25% sounds accurate.

Dear Applicants,


I realize many of you were told decisions regarding your admissions status following your interview at UCSD would be available today. However, the Admissions Committee had decided to wait until after we complete more interview dates. Our plan is that all applicants that have been interviewed to date will be notified of the committee’s decision by Wednesday, November 4.

For those who interviewed, what time did your interview day end? Did it matter if you had morning or afternoon interviews? Trying to see if I can get on a flight at 2:45 pm... not many options, unfortunately.
