Did any previous interviewee go to the dinner at The Swamp. What is the dress code? Casual?

Yes the pre-interview dinner was great! Its an good time to get a feel from the students about the program.

@Thorium90 LOL! if you were at the dinner this past Thursday (3rd), then you probably saw me in a suit and tie, lol. I had asked what the dress code was (to the general Med Admin email) and the reply was "very very formal" but was intended to be "very very informal". I figured it out when I saw everyone else in jeans, lol. Its all good !
@Justwannagetit269 casual to business casual is more than appropriate.

Haha better than it being the other way around and showing up with a t shirt and jeans when everyone is wearing suits.

Baha no I was on an earlier date, but it seems its a common occurrence! I agree with @mauroz , over dressing is most defiantly the better option of the two

So when does UF stop sending out IIs? I know a friend of mine got hers in February a few cycles ago, so I'm still holding out hope.

did everyone else also get the "keep sending us updates" email?

Yep, just got it too. Scared me for a bit... Haha. I thought they were on break this week? Didn't expect any communication from schools until like early January.

I've got like 50+ volunteer hours I did this semester but I dunno if it's worth updating about. Otherwise, no extracurricular updates either. Does this email just mean, we don't like you right now but an update might tip the scale...

So once you type in the updates in the required section, how do you submit it? All I can find is "save". Does saving it mean they are able to see the update? Hopefully January will be my month :lame:

Just pressing save is enough, yep.

anybody else accepted get the package from UF in the mail? Is this a bribe ;P

Anyone accepted early Nov or after received the package yet?

Congrats to those accepted! I graduated from UF a few years ago (first class to sport pass/fail for MS1-2) and not once have I regretted my choice in medical school. I always felt that the faculty and staff generally cared for us as both students and humans, making the experience about as pleasant as medical school could ever be. I miss my time at UF and hope to return one day. For those of you on the fence I recommend going to the second look event.

Feel free to PM with any questions. I was part of the old curriculum so I can't speak much to what they have in place now, but happy to give it a shot.

Hi! Joining this thread as I got an II today!! My interview is scheduled for the end of January. I'm coming from Boston and not at all familiar with the Gainesville/UF area- can anyone give me some info such as best airport to come from, if there's reliable public transport, and if not if a cab is the best way to get to the place I'm staying at from the airport?

Thanks for any help!

You can fly into Gainesville or fly into Orlando and take a ~20 dollar greyhound to Gainesville. Then you can take an Uber pretty much anywhere. RTS buses are usually pretty reliable and frequent, it costs 1.50 I think. Google can help you out with the routes to take. Depending on where you're staying you might want to Uber/walk to the med school to be safe.

II today!! Just got a call! Wow. I got one from Miami yesterday, too. Feeling extremely fortunate.

For some numbers/dates: I received the "file is complete" email mid September and got the II today. LizzyM of 76.

So, my question for anyone who knows... How's the interviewed/admitted ratio look like? How's interview day? And how soon after interview day do we get a response? Thanks! 😀

At my interview I was told historically 50% of interviewees are accepted, either outright or through the waitlist. As for the decision-making process, I might be wrong here, but I believe the interview committee meets every other Monday and the final selection committee meets the day after that. The way the timeline works, I actually ended up getting my decision 3 (4?) days after my interview.

Wow, 50%, huh? That's pretty good. What are they like at the other FL schools? I've heard that both UF and Miami are quite selective in whom they interview, more so than the others, but I'm not sure how much truth there is to that. Thanks for all the info. Fingers crossed they meet the Monday after mine. 🙂

Thank you! The dates offered to me were 1/22, 1/29, and 2/5.

Yup they did say that they are extremely selective of who they interview and ~ half of interviewees are admitted. Interview day was really awesome, one of the highlight of my day was learning how to intubate a patient, I think you will enjoy it! My interview was on a friday and I got a response the following Tuesday so that was ~3 days but I also know a friend who had to wait a little over a week but still very quick!!

Good luck and have fun!!

Oh wow, that response time is amazing. Huge appreciation for the admissions team for sparing us so much agony, hah.

I'm really looking forward to it. I go here for undergrad and basically live in the medical sciences area. Haven't seen the new building, though! Do both first and second years have the majority of their classes there? I can say that I'm not a huge fan of the ARB's lecture hall... Haha.

So the interview is 2 faculty, 30 minutes each, correct? How best should I go about preparing for it? For my past interviews, I have been using the interview feedback page, which has done me well for USF and UCF. I've been told that it's semi-open file; does that mean they know my activities but not my grades/MCAT, or the other way around?
Is the actual interview pretty relaxed, or do they like to throw curveballs? At USF, I almost felt like I was talking to old friends, is how casual it was. UCF, not so much.

Thanks for all the help, guys.

Yup 2 interview, may be 2 faculty or 1 faculty and one 4th year student. The interviews are to be scheduled to be 45 mins. but may last up to an hour. I prepped very similar for my interview, so I think you will be fine. That's right, open file w/o MCAT and GPA. Interviews are very relaxed, everyone in my group came out with positive feedback, I am quite surprised that it wasn't like that at UCF, I've heard good things.

Feel free to PM me if you would like more specifics! Good luck again! 🙂

So does anyone know how we get the specific UF financial aid application? I read the FAQs and it said that we have to do a separate app for UF fin aid but no mention of how. Thanks for any help!

It will be uploaded as a separate application on the registrar's site for UF in late January. I emailed them about it, and they said they would email students when it came available.

You're a gem. Thank you 🙂

Hearing back on Tuesday... Going to be an anxious weekend, haha.

Hey there! I'm interviewing at UF soon and I was wondering if you [or someone else] could clarify on this point. I know UF is very selective in who they choose to interview, so I was wondering about post-interview stats. When you say that everyone that interviews is either accepted or waitlisted, do you mean that, let's say in an interview date with of 20 people, 10 people from that date will be straight up accepted and the remaining 10 will be waitlisted? As in, there are no post-interview rejections? Sorry, I was just confused on this point and was wondering if someone could clarify! Thank you in advance

I just interviewed yesterday so this info is still pretty fresh in my head. I'm not entirely sure that's how it works, because Dr. Lynch showed us a bar graph of how many were accepted on each decision date for last year's batch (to show that there's no correlation between interview date and how many are accepted). In the example of 20 students interviewing, they may decide to take only like, 7 or 8 students on that particular day, but maybe take a few more on another, depending on how many seats they have. They also meet every other week, so I think they have more than 1 interview batch up for consideration at a time. I could be wrong about this part, though.

And actually I believe it was more than 50% acceptance post-interview. I think the numbers for last year's class was 217 accepted out of 350, or about 62%. The amount matriculating was maybe 123 or so. Finally, I do believe you can be rejected after interview, but only if you horribly messed up your interview. This last one I'm not absolutely sure about, but have heard from a number of different current students.

Thank you so much for your quick response! I really, really appreciate it, thank you. 🙂 It gives me hope that there seems to be such a high post-interview acceptance rate. Of course, nothing is ever guaranteed, so hopefully my interviews go well. So far at the schools I've interviewed at, my interviews were pretty chill. I only walked out of one interview feeling crappy but that's because my interviewer kept cutting me off and would speak over me whenever I tried... wasn't a fun experience.

@BreakneckWalrus, since you just recently interviewed, would you mind describing your post-interview experience, if you get a chance? As in, how your interviews went, if you thought it was difficult, how was the interview day structured, etc.? Obviously I'm not asking you give me a list of the questions they asked you lol, but more so of your overall thoughts or details about the interview day in general. Thank you 🙂

So, I've interviewed at 5 schools so far, all of them at Florida schools. UF was likely the last interview I'll do, unless maybe Maryland and UCLA show me some love, lol. That said, I'm glad UF was the last one, because it was by far the best one I've had. I'll give you a brief rundown of the day's events.

The day starts off at 8:30 with welcome/orientation, and then we get to talk to an actual patient for about 30 minutes. This was the first time I'd seen an interview do something like this, so I thought it was pretty cool. We spent some interacting with a patient simulator dummy, where a simulation engineer showed us what kind of training they can do on it. Afterwards, a brief talk about research at UFCOM, then about an hour for lunch. After this, there were 3 hour blocks set for the tour and 2 interviews. For this part, I think it could go in any order: interview/tour/interview, interview/interview/tour, etc. In my experience, the interviews did indeed last a full hour each. Afterwards, some financial aid info, then it's finished around 4:30.

Your interview can be either with 2 faculty or 1 faculty and 1 M4. My interviews were really great. Both of my interviewers were incredibly nice. I know they say this about a lot of interviews, but I actually really felt like they were trying to get to know me, and what kind of person I am. They were much less interview, and more a conversation about my life and what's important to me. I got maybe only a few "standard" interview questions. So, just relax on interview day.

Everyone at UF gave me the impression that they actually wanted me to be there. So definitely look forward to it, I think you'll have a great time.

Again, thank you again for such a quick and detailed response! You answered all my questions and worries about the interview day (including the interview schedule and when the day ends), so thank you!!! The interview day sounds amazing and fun so I'm really looking forward to it! 🙂

Did any of your interviewers ask you any ethical scenario questions or healthcare specific questions? Or was it mostly the kind where your interviewers let you take it whatever direction you wanted it to go? For one of my interviews at another school, most people said it was conversational but for me it ended up being all about ethical scenarios. Of course I realize that my interview may be different from yours, but since UF is one of my top schools I definitely want to go in as prepared as I can, so I appreciate any insight.

Again, thank you! You sound like a great person so I hope you get accepted into UF and hear good news from UCLA and Maryland 🙂 best of luck!

There were some behavioral questions but I didn't get any ethics, nor did anyone I talked to. Best advice I can give is to be relaxed but energetic and friendly. If you interview with an M4 then you want them to say "Yeah, I'd totally want that person to be my classmate" and you want the faculty to say "Yeah, I'd totally want that person to be my student". Since you got an interview, they already think that you have good stats and ECs - you just have to solidify that you are indeed ready to be a medical student and future doctor.

I was freaking out all this morning. Just got the email, waitlisted. Kind of stings, I thought this was my best interview yet, and UF's my top choice. I guess all I can hope for is a lot of waitlist movement.

Just got waitlisted as well. it SUCKS ugh

It's too early to lose hope! There might be significant waitlist movement, you never know! Keep your chins up. 🙂

Also, quick question -- does UF tell the names of who you will interview with before the interview day? Or do you find that out the day of your interview?
