2015-2016 University of Florida Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I have officially withdrawn from UF! I recently got into my top choice school with my fiance, and because I haven't gotten any interview love from here, I have come terms with the fact that it just wasn't meant to be. Lots of luck to you all!

got the email today from UF about paying the deposit. We need to confirm our decision within two weeks of receiving THIS email. Not the one telling us we got in.

@sovereign0 Wow! Congrats! Didn't they say December is when they would release decisions?

When I interviewed, I was told that the only two results at this time would be a waitlist or acceptance. I never heard anything about December, but perhaps that is when they will release decisions for waitlisted candidates?

Was it by email or portal? And when were you complete? Sorry, this thread has been so slow, I'm trying to figure out where they are in all of this!
They actually telephoned! I thought that was really thoughtful of them. I'm guessing if I missed the call they would have sent an email, they were very on point with email communication. Completed late October, I know it's unusual, long story, but I would love to attend and am relieved/psyched they invited me to interview despite that date ^-^
Yes this thread is oddly slow :-/

They said that they email but they inform your interviewers about the decision so it's up to them if they want to call. They do not always call.

Has anyone started a Facebook group?
I suspect they will start that up in the spring, and I would assume they would email it out to us.

That's what other schools have said on interview day at least.

Yes, they made one already.

They will send an email with the link after acceptance.

Has anyone received a link to the accepted student website yet or did I overlook it?

Are you talking about separate website or the facebook page? Cause I put the link to the facebook page in the thread earlier.

I believe there is a separate website to the facebook group (which I did see; thank you for posting). That website is mentioned without a link on the "Next Steps" email.

Can those who are being offered interviews share what dates are currently being offered? Just wondering about how many spots might be left for the season. Also, does anyone know if they are a little forgiving on GPA for (chemical) engineers? IS, 32MCAT, and ~3.3GPA (but a 3.6 major GPA). Any info/opinions would be helpful. Thanks!

II scheduled for December 4th !!! So excited and never thought I had a chance. My dream school !!!

IS Nontrad 506 MCAT, 3.7 GPA, many years in healthcare and some benchtop research. Proof if you throw enough spaghetti at the wall, somethings gotta stick, lol!

Good luck! Interview day is relaxed and very enjoyable.

Any one know when the Nov. interview group find out if they have been accepted?

They told me that they conduct interviews on Friday and have a decision by the following Tuesday each week... that could have changed later in the cycle though?

Dr. Lynch mentioned, during his presentation, that "we're meeting next on Dec. 1". He kind of half-said it while looking at the powerpoint and didn't add anything, so I can't say how definitive that is. Maybe later in the cycle they meet less frequently?

I thought they said dec 1st as well, maybe we will hear from them later in the week

Sigh. Nothing here yet. Considering sending them an email before the semester ends to remind them I'm very interested in interviewing here. Does anyone know if they care at all about family ties to the COM? My dad did his fellowship at UF a while ago.

And have they started actually sending out any rejections yet? They say if we haven't heard from them, we're still on the table. But I'm not sure if they've just tossed my app away into a rejection pile that they're going to send out some time in the future. Or something.

I thought I'd be competitive enough to get an interview, at least! LizzyM of 76, went here for undergrad, did 3 years of research with the COM, 2 of my rec letters were from UFCOM faculty, too, haha... You really can't take anything for granted when applying to med school.

How receptive is this school to out of state applicants from california? I completed my app in september so im sure its not too late to panic, but I am very average in my stats. Should I hold my breath?

When I interviewed, there were a lot of people from California. They said that after Florida, most applicants come from California, so you have a good shot.

UF won't send out rejections until the end of the interview cycle. If you haven't heard anything, then you may still be considered for an interview. I have no idea what family ties will do, but I expect that they don't mean much (if they mean anything) unless the applicant is competitive regardless.

They were forgiving of my relatively low undergrad GPA, but I had supplemented that with a relatively high graduate GPA. I don't know if engineers have different considerations, but at least we know from my case that atonement is possible.

Did any previous interviewee go to the dinner at The Swamp. What is the dress code? Casual?

The dinner is really nice! The dress code is up to you, some dressed casually, and some went in with ties..... I personally would suggest dressing somewhere in between ^^. However, no faculty or admissions will be at the dinner, so wear what makes you comfortable. Congrats on the interview!
