2015-2016 University of Florida Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
It's too early to lose hope! There might be significant waitlist movement, you never know! Keep your chins up. 🙂

Also, quick question -- does UF tell the names of who you will interview with before the interview day? Or do you find that out the day of your interview?

They tell you the day of- its in the welcome packet they give you when you walk in.

Hello all!!!! CONGRATS to the fellow accepted students, can't wait to meet everyone who decides to attend!!!🙂.

QUESTION: Has anyone been able to login to their Gatorlink account as yet??
Did they include this in an email? I haven't heard anything about having a gatorlink yet...

Hey Guys,
I interviewed last week and was waitlisted. Do any first years know if I should expect a waitlist movement?

No it wasn't in an email, I saw something about it on the accepted students website; but I guess we don't have access to it as yet.

So I read that they recently switched up the way they do admissions? From last year's thread, I think. They're trying not to over-enroll now, so they're accepting fewer straight off the bat. If I remember the graph Dr. Lynch showed us correctly, they accepted an average of like, 9-11 students per decision date? Of which there were 16? So that's 144-176 students admitted straight up. Then the total admitted was 217 I think, if I remember correctly, out of the 350 interviewed. So, if I'm not wrong about all this, I think there should be some decent waitlist movement this year. But, I'm probably going to email and see what they forecast for WL movement this year. Keep your chins up, everyone! There's always hope.

Those of us who interviewed yesterday won't know until March 1st about our decisions because Dr. Lynch mentioned that he's' going to be really busy with something so the admissions committee can't meet... the wait is going to be terrible!

I called the admissions office and found out they really can't predict waitlist movement. It has varied significantly for the past 3 years (from 5%-33% accepted off waitlist) and they don't know what this year will hold. So @BreakneckWalrus you might be right about decent waitlist movement, but if that's true the admissions office has no idea (or they were being evasive but UF does not strike me as an evasive type of school)

Any chance that I might still get an interview invite this week? Been complete since November and sent them updates too

Hey Guys,
Just so you know. I spoke with admissions recently and they said they are meeting next month to create an alternate waitlist. Also most waitlist movement will be after April 30. So there is still hope.

Interview season is officially over. Just got the news via email. Good luck to everyone who has upcoming interviews or is on the WL!

Does anyone with the updated msar know what the mcat data is for UF now? My subscription ran out right before they published the new data.

When does UF send invitations to their Second Look? Also, are waitlisted applicants invited?

They sent them out via email a week or so ago. It's only open to people officially accepted from my understanding.

Okay thanks! Is the second look in mid to late April or early May? Also, does anyone know when UF starts to take people off the waitlist?

Hey guys, do you know sending a LOI to UF helps waitlisted candidates in terms of getting off the waitlist? Or it doesn't really help you?

When should we get financial aid info?
For those going to second look, they will get them on April 15th. For those who aren't going to second look, they will mail the financial packets the next week. (So probably by the 19th?)

Well, would we get a letter on the 15th (the friday night) or the 16th (saturday). I plan to drive up for second look but I have class on Friday and may not be able to make it up to UF in time for the reception. Thanks so much for this info!! super helpful!!

Sorry, its the 16th. I just have it in my mind that the main second look is the 15th since that's the date I will need to be there haha

No prob. Thanks soooo much!! 🙂 hope I get to meet you there!

You're very welcome! It would be pretty cool to meet SDN people there haha
That actually happened at my first interview. I met someone in the hotel that I had seen on SDN haha it was pretty cool

I called UF earlier today to ask them about the waitlist and how many have been accepted off the waitlist the last two years. I was told the last two years there was very minimum waitlist movement, about only a dozen. :/ Even though movement is very random every year, that's very discouraging...

Does that (creating an alternate list) mean anything for people already waitlisted?

I have a question -- from my notes it said that last year (class of 2015) they had 305 interviews and accepted 217. Does the 217 mean people they accepted off the bat AND those who were accepted off the waitlist? Or is 217 just the number they over accept by before they start pulling people off the waitlist?

Not sure, but that may include the students from the JMP BS/MD program. IIRC, there are 12 students from that program with every class.

This alternate list is comprised of the waitlisted students.
There seem to be a lot of different definitions of an alternate list, depending on the school I guess. At some places, it's reserved for people who get in at the last minute, somehow different from people on the wait list, or it's just another name for the wait list. Do you know what it means for UF? (Is it better or worse to be on it?)
...I suppose the point is sort of moot if they don't say which one you're on anyway lol 🙄

would any of you who were accepted from OOS mind posting your stats and any advice?

So, in regards to financial aid...does anyone know if it will be given out on Friday at the reception or Saturday at the actual event?

My advice is be able to stand out as best you can on the application. Seems they really want students who show they care about others. Of all the schools I interviewed at, they interview the least, so you have to make your application strong (which you should do for any school). They told me in one interview that they were taking more out of state students over the last few years; they seemed less concerned with why I wanted to move there and more how I would fit with the school and what about their program specifically enticed me.

Hey guys. 2nd year, well I guess 3rd year? IDK. I take step tomorrow. So if you have any questions feel free to ask me either here or via message.

excellent advice. thank you so much!

Sorry I meant that they gave out 305 interviews (not 205, my mistake, I fixed it in my original post) and accepted 217 for a class of 135. I do remember them saying 12 of them are from the honors medicine program. But I'm still wondering what that 217 means since I know they over accept... Not sure if the 217 is how much they over accept by or how much they went through until they pulled off people from the WL if that makes sense.

I talked to one of the honors students at second look this weekend at they said that this year there was 17 (I think?) from that program, which they said was the largest ever. They also said that next year it will go back to the normal amount.
