What interview day did those of you who got the email have?

Nope. So we'll see what happens next week. Hoping for the best though!!!

I got the email and interviewed on one of the late January dates...pretty sure I haven't even been reviewed yet and the email isn't indicative of anything and they send them to everyone!

I got the email also. Judging by the context though it is only sent to those accepted or wait listed: "As discussed on your interview day, this campus preference message is being sent to applicants who have received offers of admission, as well as applicants who have the potential to be offered admission in March (a.k.a. waitlisted?)"

waiting for snail mail now to clarify the situation

I interviewed in late January and got the same email. I think the second portion also refers to us, people who they haven't evaluated yet. They told us during the interview date that we would get the email even if a decision has yet to be made.

I feel like they told us early January candidates the same thing. I just don't know why they would wait to send these emails until the day they send letters and don't send them to all of us? Maybe it means nothing. The wording sounds like it means those accepted or on hold but I really don't know.

Friends in Topeka that interviewed in Jan didn't get theirs yet either.

Y'all need to chill. Last year looks like early January interviews found out around February 22nd, 23rd. You can't make the mail move faster, so breathe, pray, be happy you have the chance to be nervous as hell to be waiting for acceptance to medical school. Many many many people aren't even in your shoes and never even got an interview.

Last year they had 3 weeks of meetings cancelled due to bad weather, this year they had 1.. Meaning they actually are slower this year.. And some of us have gotten so many rejections already that every letter and email is a little terrifying.. And if you aren't nervous about what you're letter says, are you really invested enough to put in the blood, sweat, and tears that medical school will require of you?

they were just saying people need to calm down, no need to question how people will do in medical school.

That's unfortunate that they are moving slower. I do think the energy in the thread was trending towards being very antsy. Just reminding everybody to breathe. The mail gets here when it gets here. Pretty sure there's never been an applicant who wasn't nervous about what their letter said.

I just post to pass the time with everybody while we wait. Good luck to everybody? Did everybody end up getting the campus preference email or not?

Say's medical student under his name Elizwolf11. I know Kuhawk25. I'm pretty sure he/she HAS already started to put in the blood, sweat, and tears medical school does require, because they are living it now. But to answer your question, yes, you can actually be nervous but still be cool under pressure, calm, and be invested enough to put in the blood sweat and tears medical school and the medical profession requires of you...it's called being a physician. Nerves are different than speaking about your frustration about the process on a public message board that I know our admissions committee sees. Its unprofessional and unbecoming of the profession you one day want to have the privilege of being apart of. So when KUhawk says chill, and be happy, they are not wrong. You're privileged to be at this point, and he/she really can say it, because he/she has already walked the path you're on now.

Letter received (early Jan interview)! I get to wait another month. I'm one of the most impatient people ever but I'm not going to complain:headphone:
Do y'all think there's a trend of when people are put on hold to the number ultimately accepted? By that I mean are more students who were put on hold after October interviews eventually accepted as opposed to people who just interviewed?

Congrats on being on hold! Did you receive the campus preference email last Friday?

I did so it got my hopes up. I have a view of my mailbox from my window so I was staring at it for the past 3 days haha. At least I can stop doing that for a few weeks.

Well that gets my hopes up for at least a hold since I received that email also!

Quite a few students (over half) last year were accepted after being put on hold last year. It is a good thing! Congrats! One step closer.

Hey! Those chances are pretty decent. Hoping for at least a hold.

Has no one else received a letter?!?

I am reading over my hold letter. It talks about not making it over the early acceptance threshold which I expected. I am very glad I actually made it onto the hold list. Does the committee score take into account stats or is it strictly interview score? Given my sub-par stats, I felt like my interview really helped me get onto the hold list. To sum it up in a question, does GPA, MCAT, E.C.'s go into committee score?

I think they take everything into account, but that would be a good question to also email the school about to get absolute confirmation.

Did anybody ever figure out an approximate number on how many people they will pull off the hold list?

The way I understand it is like this. When the committee meets, they discuss you as an applicant. Each member of the committee has your stats (i.e. your GPA, mcat, ECs) and anything else that can be easily printed off onto a piece of paper, like the notes taken directly after your interview. This will NOT include your rec letters essays, and anything else that is a wall of text. The person who did your first interview is who will represent you on the committee, and they have read all of that other info.

Your committee member introduces you, talks about your strengths and weaknesses, and probably ultimately states if they feel you should be accepted or not. The other committee members might ask questions, and when everyone is satisfied they'll each rank you. How I imagine this works is that each member rates you on a scale of 1-10. The committee has 16 members, so they add up the scores with a max of 160. If you're above a certain threshold, then you're accepted. If you're below a threshold, you're rejected.

Now, come March, after everyone has been reviewed and given a score, they can easily rank us from top to bottom. I would guess they have 70-100 spots left, so they'll take the top scores and accept them straight down the list. The next 50 are the waitlist in order. That's it.

So to answer your question, yes, the committee accounts for your MCAT and GPA in their process, but long ago. Your file is closed now and there's nothing left to do but wait. They will not meet again to discuss which hold people should be accepted because we're already ranked.

Sorry for the long answer, but I hope this clears things up. Most of this was discussed by Dean McCurdy during my interview.

That sounds right and thank you for the answer. Given my subpar stats, (3.4 GPA, lower sGPA, 27 MCAT) I feel that my interview must have went well and will hopefully ultimately lead to an acceptance. Only 4 weeks to wait!

Yeah, no problem! IS, 502, 3.97 GPA, 3.94 sGPA, over 300 hours of shadowing, over 120 hours of volunteering (90ish of which were in a clinical setting), and research in two different areas! My MCAT was pretty weak, but I think my experiences balanced that out and I tried to explain why it was so low. And I think my interviews went well. Best of luck!! Waiting is the worst!

Is this ur first time applying to KU? And congrats!

Accepted this time! For those of you on hold, I was there at this point last year. For those of you who haven't hear from your interview yet, it has to be coming soon! March will be here soon for all of those final letters. And wait-listed is not a bad thing. Last year, more than half of the people on the wait-list got in, so no despairing!
