2015-2016 University of Louisville Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I'm currently in this position (UK vs. UL), and I'm definitely undecided. Can you please explain why UofL? Do you think you made the right choice?

Hey so I can't go to the second look day tomorrow. Anyone want to post how the day goes and what they take away from it? Because that would be awesome.

Didn't attend second look either but you can actually view the student panel, dean's address, and the financial aid discussion on UofL blackboard as videos. The average stats for 2020 right now are 3.75 and a 31, I wasn't expecting it to be this competitive.

I suspect that the new MCAT being introduced this year drove the number of applications up this cycle, which in turn would lead to a higher number of competitive candidates to choose from.

One of the appealing factors of this university that I saw during my interview day was the potential for growth. I think the new facilities with the research endeavors and increasing competitiveness for admissions will help skyrocket UofL's reputation both regionally and nationally. I was more impressed by UofL than UK in terms of UofL's push for improvement and I predict that UofL will handily overtake UK as the top research institution in the state.

Also no scholarship.

Maybe NO ONE got one and they are going to give us all one later. Staying optimistic haha
I got 10,000 from UofL the other day. The perks of being poor haha. Do you guys know of any other scholarships?

This may be a stupid question, but for those of us who ultimately end up on the waitlist, will the adcom take our spring grades into account? I'm assuming that's a yes, but just figured I'd ask.

If you end up on the spring waitlist but you are ranked in the top 1/3, then you have a possibility of getting into the current class and starting school in Fall 2016. In this situation, no your spring grades will not count because they have made a decision on you already in late April without ever seeing your spring grades.

If however you are not accepted in this application season, then you will need to improve your application & re-apply the following year. In this situation, yes your spring grades absolutely count. This is because now your senior grades are now part of your entire application, these grades get factored into your total & science GPA. So do not blow off senior year just in case!

And remember even if you don't get in this cycle, that is completely okay! There are many people who ended up being fabulous doctors who applied several times to medical school. The end of an application season is NOT the end of the road to reaching your dreams.

@kittens4life Thanks! And no worries, I earned a good GPA last semester and I should this semester too, I was actually more curious if it would give me any kind of advantage within the waitlist. But thanks so much for the words of encouragement, positive attitudes help tremendously!

Why has the waitlist not come out yet? I'm going crazy.

Would anyone else mind sharing (and obviously only if you're comfortable with it) if you got an official wait list email today? I'm a little uneasy about hearing nothing since January

Stay calm. I've heard nothing ever since the "waitlist consideration pool" either so at least you are not the only one 😀

Got an email this morning about making the waitlist! Pretty excited to say the least. Waitlist positions will come out April 22nd. Hoping for the best.

+1!! I interviewed late (in Jan) so this is what I was hoping for at the best.

As a M1 at UofL you are paired with a 2nd year mentor. It's not too big of a deal, but I think it can definitely be beneficial if you have someone who cares. I know mine helped me quite a bit. To the point, anybody who is 100% going to UofL that doesn't know someone personally to "mentor" them can feel free to shoot me a private message and I will choose you as my mentee. I promise I'll be helpful.

If we are an accepted student, but did attend the second look event, where do we find our login information?

How are people doing on the "finding a place to live" front? I have a roommate, but I feel like it's to early to really find a good place to rent, an apartment or a house. Anyone have any luck??

I definitely think now is the time to start looking. My roommate and I both live in Louisville already but if you want to live relatively close to the med school you'll also be competing with undergrad students because the campuses are pretty close to each other. May is high time for people to start moving in and out and a lot of apartment complexes have a wait list so I would just begin looking around!

Should we be expecting e-mails regarding final waitlist selection tomorrow?

There have been some posts on the facebook page. Also on blackboard you can find the preorientation I think some students talked about where they lived on there

What all should be included in our letter to accept the wait list position? Should this letter be to the point or should it be more like a letter of intent?

I think they want just a simple yes or no in the return email. A letter of intent can be sent later if you want to do that.

I'm an OOS student thinking about applying here this cycle. Anyone know how strict ULSOM is with the "1 non-science faculty LOR for traditional applicants" requirement? I know some schools like Creighton say that they want a third non-science LOR, but still consider you if you do not have it. I took all of my gen-eds 2+ years ago and a non-science faculty LOR would be hard to get and would also not help my application. Thanks.

I would email [email protected] and ask to be sure. If you've taken a science course recently that doesn't fall under BCPM, they may count that as a "non-science" LOR. I know my engineering letters were counted as non-science at many schools, which seemed rather counterintuitive. U of L is very flexible with non-trad LORs but I've heard they generally stick to their requirements with the more traditional students. Regardless, I would email them to make sure. Far better to know for sure now.

Hello everyone! Could some of you that I have been accepted post your sGPA and cGPA?? Thank you!

Is there a thread for accepted UofL Class of 2020?

Has anyone found a curriculum schedule for 2016-17? I'm looking for one that shows the dates for breaks.

I know first years get 2 spring breaks 2nd semester unless they change the curriculum. One break in mid February and another break at the beginning of April.

sGPA: 3.75
cGPA: 3.72
MCAT: 31

If you all aren't averse to living in student housing I was pleasantly surprised by what Louisville had to offer on the premium housing front. I'm staying at the Province in a 3 BR apartment with all bills included at $594 per month which kills everywhere else I looked in price.. if we could get a group of three together then we could all have a quiet place to live about 10-15 minutes away from campus and save some money over renting elsewhere

I cannot find the square feet measurements for these floor plans.

Don't settle... Life long louisvillian here and for a 3br you can easily find $300 within 10 mins of campus, plus utilities split between 3 people so that's no more than $375. I pay that much total, utilities included for a beautiful 2br apartment in a nice neighborhood 5 minute drive from campus.
