Hello friends!
I am applying EDP here. I'm out of state, but I am currently in the SURP program on campus. I love this school and their commitment to rural medicine. I am finishing up my secondary tonight, and hopeful for an interview.
I'm almost positive Gigi said all EDP applicants get interviews, so I am trying not to get my hopes up too high about if this school wants me or not! Haha

I was SURP 2013. Had such a great time. I worked in the eppley cancer center (now the Buffet cancer center)

Do you think SURP helped your application a significant amount? (Please say yes... haha) I LOVE the SURP Program. I am in the MD/PhD group, so they have given me the opportunity to shadow as well as get some solid research done. I will be recommending it to everyone back in New Mexico because we have underserved areas very similar to those here in Nebraska, and this is a wonderful resource to learn about rural health disparities!
I got what I believe was a strong positive LOR from my PI who has been there for quite some time. I believe it, as a result of SURP, helped me. It also shows that you have interest and time/effort invested into the institution.

Thanks for the perspective. You seem to be very positive without sugar coating anything. I am trying not to get my hopes up, but UNMC is where I would like to end up!

Hey! Finally another EDPer. I think that makes three of us now. Maybe we'll see each other during our interviews.
Yes, you will get an interview for EDP. At least, I think.
I'm looking forward to being on campus again and interacting with all of the wonderful students and interviewees.

Hey just submitted the secondary, and I didn't see a place for that 2x2 photo they say they ask for on the website. Anyone know how that's supposed to work?

I sent mine in an e-mail after being invited. If there was an upload link, I missed it!
I am sure they would have let you know if that was not the way they wanted it. I can't remember how I sent mine.
Just kidding, searched through my email and found it. I sent it in via email as well. And found it was oriented landscape instead of portrait. Sigh.... Don't make the same mistake as me lol.
Does anyone have any questions about pictures? I would recommend the picture be shoulders up, neutral light background, in the same type of clothes you would interview in. Also, men shave unless you normally have facial hair in which case make sure it is freshened up and trimmed. Passport photo will work just fine, however I had a tan-colored wall in my house with good lighting and no shadows where I took mine

Did you resize your photo to make it 2x2 (144x144 pixels)? Got an II, can't adequately express my excitement!
Congrats. Also, I would suggest resizing it. Don't want to give them any excuse to think something negative about your app (ie he/she can't even follow the 2x2 directions)

Lol no. I didn't resize it. There were conflicting dimensions they report. One said 2x2 and another said 2x3. I sent a picture, and they received it. I have no idea what its dimensions were.
If that keeps me out of medical school, then I guess it just wasn't meant to be.

Yeah, now I'm being neurotic because Baxt mentioned the negative outlook on my app because of the picture.
I just figured since it was sent electronically they could manipulate it however they wish... If it would have been through the mail, I would have obviously done a 2x2.
I would resize it to a 2x2 if I were you. 2x3 is odd.
I just manipulated mine in paint. Cropped down to my shoulders and head. Then resized. Start with a high or decent res picture and it should be fine.
But honestly what I said was a bit neurotic too. I wouldn't worry about it.

Oh man, I just re-sent them another pic in 144 x 144 (first pic I sent didn't fit 2x2 or 2x3).

All I'm saying is that when I do a 144x144 ratio, the image is like a 1/4 big on my computer screen. What's up with that?

72 pixels per inch is what I found online, so that's where I got the 144x144. It does seem small though.

It's not a big deal. I just had a friend take a high resolution photo of me with my suit on. Shoulder and up. Then I sent it.
Don't let our neuroticism get to ya.
I also had a non-"professional" picture. Neutral lighter background.

Well, technically this friend is a professional photographer. However, she didn't charge me and used minimal photoshop on shadows and such. She had a backdrop (bluish school photo-esque background) in her garage we used. I live about 3/4 of a mile away from her, so I slipped on my shirt, jacket, and tie, drove down, took the picture, and had it in my email inbox within 30 minutes.
Very grateful she did it for me!

I am late to posting on here, but I submitted my EDP application and secondary this week (first time applying). I have not seen anything about submitting the picture. How did you know when to send it and what email to send it to? Today is the deadline- so I need to get it in! Also, I am IS with a 3.92 GPA and 31 old MCAT (9PS/11BS/11VS).

The picture isn't a factor unless you are invited to interview. Once you get an invitation, the link they give you will have instructions. Good luck!

Also, the deadline refers strictly to the AMCAS application and not supplemental materials, as far as I know. You're fine!

Hi everyone Im not applying until next cycle but have a quick question after going through this thread. Its seems OOS pretty much won't get in unless they have strong ties. I am OOS and I havemt lived or have any family that currently live in Nebraska. Would having a parent that went to UNMC be enough for them?
I would imagine so. Definitely call the office and ask to speak with Gigi just to be sure but I would bet on it being enough. Especially if the college of medicine, but probably any of the colleges would work too.

Finally submitted my EDP secondary! Got it about 3 weeks ago but haven't had computer access since I am out of the country. Feels good to be done with the applications, now just waiting for an interview invite!
