Did anyone hear from UNMC today?
Did anyone hear anything this week??
Anybody know if there is a Facebook group yet? And has anyone heard about financial aid? It's been nothing but silence since I got my acceptance letter.
Rejected today
Rejected today
IS and accepted, interviewed 12/14!
Hey all,
I got rejected today. Postmarked 2/15/2016. I interviewed 12/4/15 I think and I applied around 10/7/2015, which is pretty late.
My stats:
IS, Male, ORM, cGPA 3.6, sGPA 3.3(darn), MCAT 506, 128 reading, 126 Chem, bio, psych,
900 hours of research in a neuroscience lab (I really enjoyed this!)
60 hours shadowing multiple physicians
60 hours medical volunteering (hospitals and small clinics, mostly doing pointless work)
50 hours volunteer coaching youth athletics
20 hours tutoring gen. chem to first generation college students
Some other small things.
Congrats to everybody who will be in the class next year! I'm devastated that I won't be able to join you. Even though I saw the rejection coming from a mile away, it still hurts a lot. If you got in and intend to practice, please take advantage of the opportunity you've been given. Now I just have to figure out what to do with my life...
Yes, thank you for the thoughts! I already set my exit interview up and I'm looking into Master's programs--hopefully I can get accepted to one of those! It sounds like you've got a good mindset.Hey, I'm sorry to hear you didn't get in, but you can always apply again next year! Don't forget to go to your exit interview...maybe if you did a masters program next year, they'd look at that kindly. I may be in your same boat when the mail comes, so I'm just trying to just remember that whatever happens--it's for a reason!

I hope you get good news 🙂
I'm sorry to hear about the rejection. With that sgpa, UNMC will probably want a post-bac, so I think that you're doing the right in looking into Master's programs. Nebraska told me that "they don't care which post-bac you do, just as long as you do a post-bac" when I applied there last time (I also had a 3.3 sgpa, but a 2.7 cgpa (ouch)).
Also, I would strongly recommend that you consider not reapplying this June, and instead sit out a cycle. In addition to the grade remediation, you should also retake the MCAT and you need to gain a lot more clinical exposure, and you really can't do those things in the next 6 months.
Hey guys. I applied in Sept and interviewed around October 9. I haven't heard back yet and was wondering if anyone else interviewing in October has yet to hear from UNMC?
I've noticed others who applied and interviewed after me have gotten acceptances and rejections so I'm wondering if they stuck me in the maybe pile or waiting list. Any thoughts?
I do know that they are downplaying the MCAT this cycle and so are having to review other parts of applications more closely. Therefor they are not as far along in reviewing the applicant pool as they normally are at this time (usually 70% complete). This coming from an admissions member.
Thanks for your help!
Good! Well, I think you're headed in the right direction. A gap year isn't all bad-- I took one and I haven't heard yet, so I may be at gap year #2 (not by choice this time). I haven't fully decided what I'll do, maybe a master's program, or maybe just work. Good luck with whatever you choose!Yes, thank you for the thoughts! Iv heard of this occurring before, I know some people from last year who ended up getting in and didn't have to wait a year after all. Regardless, congrats, if nothing else that's a full stress free year where you can make some $$!Got mail today!! I got accepted but placed on the Alternate list but they're offering me an "automatic admission seat in the class of 2017". Anyone else got this? I guess this is good news but i have to wait an extra yr. unless, someone drops their seat.
If you wouldn't mind sharing your stats, I'd appreciate it.I got the same letter about the alternate list with automatic admission in 2017! Whatever happens with the rest of this year I still got accepted!
Letter postmarked February 24th
IS Male
If you have any questions about my statistics let me know.
From other threads that I've read from UNMC if you get the letter that says,"The admissions committee has reviewed your application to the 2016 entering class and voted in favor of your acceptance. However, all places in the class have been filled at this time. The committee has designated you as an alternate for admission. Should you not receive an acceptance letter by the time the class matriculates in August, you will be offered automatic deferment and admission into the entering class of 2017" It means you are in the top quartile of the waitlisted individuals. I plan on calling Gigi tomorrow to find out a little bit more information.Got mail today!! Just wondering, has anyone not heard? I had heard that the admissions committee is only meeting once more, however, I don't know if that takes into account this group that just received letters. I'm out of town until Wednesday and debating whether or not I should have someone check the mail. (Although I really want to be the one to open it...)
Yeah super simple. I tried calling and her machine said that she would be out of the office till Friday.I was thinking of calling as well because I would really like to know where I am at on the list that way I can plan accordingly and don't feel rush if they do offer me a seat at the last minute.
Let me know if you call, I'll try and call in the afternoon.
for the written response? are you keeping it nice and simple?
I called Gigi today and asked what the chances were of getting in this year vs 2017 and she told me that more than likely I would matriculate this year. Although there is no time frame as to when you will find out. She said it could be tomorrow or the middle of August. Hope some of this information helps for those with questions about getting accepted/wait listed.
Accepted off the waitlist today!
Has anyone heard from UNMC about anything post-admission?
Welp, just released my seat in order to attend a med school in AZ, where I'm from. Loved this school though and hope my seat goes to someone who is super excited to receive it.
