2015-2016 University of South Florida Application Thread

I apologize if this questions has already been addressed, but does everyone's status have a "last viewed" date? Mine does not have one. Does this mean mine hasn't been viewed? Next to "App Complete" mine just says "Your application is ready." I've had everything turned in for months. Any insight would be GREATLY appreciated.

My last view date appeared the day that I got invited to interview, before that I didn't have one. Hope that helps!

On the "last viewed" topic, here is my speculation which I think is pretty close to the truth. When you turn in your application, it is downloaded onto their server and they don't have to access their portal to look at it anymore. If you are invited to interview or called for an acceptance, they go back into the online portal to make sure they have your current contact info (because I believe you can update this in the portal). Therefore the only time that the "last viewed" date changes is if they make any communication with you and this is not at all indicative of when they actually viewed your file. Again this is just my hypothesis but i feel it is probably correct more often than not. Please feel free to share counter arguments if your experiences are different. Just trying to ease your minds about this.

I requested a fee waiver and I have a last viewed date, which was the day I was granted the fee waiver

If we got accepted, and sent in the paperwork, do other schools see that we accepted? Do they still offer you interviews if they know you accepted somewhere else?

For those that have been accepted, was there any update on the online portal? Or is it only the phone call for acceptance / letter through the mail for waitlist?

No school can see if you've been accepted somewhere else until AFTER they accept you.

I think also, that information isn't released until April-ish which has a role in all of the movement that occurs between March-May and beyond. (In addition of course to the April 30 deadline to hold multiple acceptances)

I thought they said it didn't update immediately after or before the call is made. Did you receive the call yet?

No, for my interview day they said we would hear today. So, I guess I'm waitlisted.

I remember that this is how it was a few years ago. Schools wouldn't know where you were holding acceptances until a certain deadline that came around the time that you could only hold 1 acceptance at a time. So a school looking into accepting you from their waitlist would see that you holding an acceptance at another school.

Same - no call either. We might have went to the same interview day (Mine was 11/24) , assuming you're CORE and not SELECT. I remember Dr. Daniel saying that Wednesday was the earliest that they'd contact us, not the definitive, only date; my room mate got accepted to USF's MD/PHD program a few weeks ago. He got the call at 6 pm two nights after they said what the earliest day was. It might be them taking a bit longer and not us, so I wouldn't lose hope just yet!

I had expected to hear on the Wednesday after my interview, but didn't get a call until Friday. I wouldn't worry too much!

I got the call first, then a few days later the portal had the option to accept or decline, then a packet days later. Also, it's possible Dr. Daniel is caught up in something, and may call later than expected. He told me he was going to call other students later to let them know their good news.

Yup - I was there 11/24. Hopefully we will hear soon then!

Thanks for the info - that is reassuring!

Was anyone complete in Late July and hasnt got an interview here yet? I have gotten no correspondence from this school at all. Is it safe to say that its a silent rejection?

I was complete mid-July and also no word from them, but it's too early to give up hope. Their timeline says that they will continue sending out invites until March. Hang in there!

Any SELECT people hear back? Interviewed in Nov and my app was viewed yesterday and then today.

It was my favorite interview day, but my worst interview (I think).

Just curious, did the "Last Viewed" part of the application change for those who were just accepted? Mine's still at 11/12...

Got a call and missed it today because my phone didn't even ring! So hopefully that was a "You're accepted!" call?

ACCEPTED! Received the phone call from Dr. Daniel just now. He was so sweet and made me tear up haha... "we have a seat waiting for you in Tampa" :')
Interviewed on 11/24; IS; LizzyM 72
Was it a restricted number on your caller ID? And congrats!!

Just got an II for CORE, LizzyM 67-69 IS Complete in Mid July... Surprised they're still sending II's given all the recent acceptances!

Does USF offer any merit scholarships? If so, when do they typically go out?

From what they've told me they have need based not merit, and they give you the offer around march if the fafsa is done.

I've heard the same as gokucool3 for your first year. After your first year you can qualify for merit based aid.

Yep, I interviewed this previous Tuesday (12/1), I was complete at USF late September but didn't have my last two rec letters in until early October. Got the II on 11/20. Surprised me that they got around to it so quickly.

Good luck at the interview! It's super relaxed. IMO the best one I've had so far.

Supposedly I can hear back any time between this Wednesday and Friday... And my app was last looked at this previous Friday. Spooky.

What is the interview like? Closed file or open file? What types of questions do they ask? What are people's experiences?

I was in your boots until literally this morning. II for CORE, OOS submitted 7/20 with a LizzyM 73 but mediocre ECs. Kind of troubled over the interview dates since there's only 3 available with none in February yet. Would it be a bad idea to wait for more at this point?

My acceptance offer was added to my secondary portal, but there is not deposit request.....do we have to do anything to accept the acceptance?

II today! IS...completed end of July!!! This is for core program! Anyone have any tips!?

It's open file, so definitely know your application. Secondary and primary, be able to talk about anything on there. Also worth taking a look at the interview feedback section for USF and checking out past questions, I noticed a few from there that were in my interview.

Other than that, just relax, be yourself. I feel like they're just trying to get to know you a little better and make sure you're a functioning human being capable of holding a conversation, lol. I feel like, if you're good enough to get an II, you're close to an acceptance provided you don't just bomb the interview. Though I could be totally wrong.

Actually, I may end up finding out today whether I got in... Good luck to both of us, haha.

Does anyone know how many OOS students get interviewed vs the number accepted (not matriculation but acceptance)
