Yuppp... that area of Richmond had a huge power outage and the VCU SOM buildings were actually evacuated 😱

(I live in Richmond, just in case anyone was wondering why I creepily know what's going on with the school)
Dude, really? I was in lab at the Goodwin building and we lost internet for the whole day and nobody told us to evacuate...

lol I'm not sure then! I think Sanger might have been evacuated since I was e-mailing someone in the building at the time, and they just never e-mailed back, which really isn't like them, especially since I was asking a really important question :arghh:

Haven't had internet access for the past 48 hours or so (was camping!), so I just now saw a status update email from VCU sent 7/24, logged in, and saw an II! Really surprised that no one else has posted about receiving one by now?

For reference, I received a status update to "The committee's file review indicates that they are interested in your candidacy. However, due to the increase in the applicant pool this year, it is clear we may be unable to interview all the candidates at your priority score. If we do find that we are unable to grant an interview, you will be notified by e-mail in March" on 7/17. Also, LizzyM~69, OOS.

Congrats 😀 did you select a date yet? I'm curious as to the earliest interview dates.

Many MD schools love non-trads! Being a bit older with some life experience after college gets attention. I've been out of school for 3 years (actually, out of my initial undergraduate work for 7 years) and have gotten one II so far...granted no status update from VCU yet. So I wouldn't worry too much this early!
Been out three years also and granted not an interview I did get small pooled for interview at Vermont. Trying not to get my hopes up too much though.

That's where I've seen you before! Small world.

How long does an app typically stay at the Sub-Committe review status?

"We received over 9,000 applications in 2014 and send supplementals to only about 2,800 candidates" - that's from the VCU website, so about 31%. Here is to hoping I get one.

wait do we get different secondary topics? cuz mine is about domestic violence.

You have the correct one. The prompt on the first page of this thread is last year's; VCU had last year's prompt in their secondary for like the first week or so.

EDIT: @Ismet can you update the prompt? Here it is:
Imagine that you are a medical student taking an admission history of a woman for a minor surgical procedure. She is accompanied by her husband who is very friendly and overly eager in answering your questions. The husband leaves to pay the parking meter and you proceed with your physical examination of the wife. You notice some bruises on her upper arm. When you ask about the bruises, she states that she recently fell in the kitchen and asks you not to bring it up when her husband returns. You suspect domestic violence. How would you handle this situation? (You may use any resources for your answer)

Wait what? Mine was about a minor asking you to not tel her mother about her sexual history. When did they change the prompt? And what's the deal if I finished mine on that topic? I turned mine in by 7/8

You're fine. If you submitted with the old prompt before July 11, they let you do that. There's an announcement dated 7/6 on their login page that talks about this.

@rlarudtjs332 I just quoted that prompt... that is the current prompt for everyone.

Did anyone get an II yet?

My status just changed and reads:

The committee's file review indicates that they are interested in your candidacy. However, due to the increase in the applicant pool this year, it is clear we MAY be unable to interview all the candidates at your priority score. If we do find that we are unable to grant an interview, you will be notified by e-mail in March.

Did they send you an email for that status change?

And CONGRATS! 🙂 It sounds promising!

I finally made it to complete and got the hold status about 10 minutes ago! @ejay19955, how long did it take for you to get that change? Also, congrats - based on previous year's threads, I think that usually means an II!

Thanks haha I am stoked to hear this usually means an II. 🙂

As for the timeline:
Secondary Submitted on 7/22
Marked Complete / Under Review on 7/27
Got the status change today.

HipHopDancing, I submitted 7/4 also and all my file status says is complete and under review.... Is that a bad sign??

No, I have the same thing, it just means they haven't looked at it.

I'm wondering if they don't necessarily look at applications in chronological order. I was marked complete 7/13 and got the complete email last week and still haven't had a status change. Yet people who submitted after us have had II's already... Dunno if being OOS makes a difference or if there's something else other people had... Making me really anxious

I submitted my primary to them later, got my secondary on the 7/17, submitted a few days later, and was complete on 7/21. Hasn't changed from the sub-committee yet.

My file is complete on the online portal but I didn't get a complete email like I've seen others get on here, should I consider emailing them or is it a non issue?

How long ago did your portal change to the complete status? It took a while for me to get the email after my portal changed.

Has anyone not gotten a secondary yet? I submitted my preliminary thing on 7/23. Stats are 3.7/3.8/514 so I *shouldn't* be screened out....

I'd say it's been about a week or so

🙁 That was about the timeframe it took for me to get that email. Though the volume/backlog of applications might have increased. I'd probably wait until tomorrow and I'd give them a call if you still haven't gotten anything.

I called about this and the lady on the phone sounded beyond bored, disinterested, and unhelpful....

I've been under review by sub-committee for a week now.. I hope it's not a bad sign that I haven't heard anything since!

I have had this status now for nearly 2 weeks. So who knows! Checking my empty inbox is quickly becoming an obsession.

Still haven't received a secondary...I would be told if I got screened out right? No email yet..when I log into the portal it just says:
"Your application has been received by the VCU School of Medicine and now will begin the process of evaluation. There will be a preliminary review of your application prior to receipt of a supplemental application. Please be aware that all applicants are not invited to complete a supplemental application. You may check the status of your application at any point during this process using the applicant website"

Mine still says this as well.

When was your AMCAS received? I'm OOS and don't have a secondary yet, but my AMCAS was in and verified for 7/1.
Verified 7/11 and still nothing, OOS as well

I'm still marked as "Incomplete". Submitted 7/11. OOS. Should I call or just wait? Letters were submitted through virtual evals to AMCAS and other schools have received them.
