2015-2016 Virginia Commonwealth University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
my home page has my letter packet and i've been submitted since 7/8 and it still says incomplete. gonna call soon if the status doesn't change

Wait I just checked, and it shows that they did receive my letter of recommendation, but it's still marked as incomplete?

hey wait a second mine says the same...supplement, fee and LORs are received but it's still incomplete!

Mine as well - the portal says that they have received supplemental/fee/LOR packet on 7/15, but I'm still marked as incomplete

Submitted 7/9, received my letter packet 7/16, marked as incomplete even though I'm pretty sure thats everything

I need to stop obsessively checking my application statuses every day, this **** cant be good for me

Are a lot of people still waiting for their secondaries to be marked as complete?
Yes I am, sent my second science lot a few days ago so hopefully I am complete soon and can find out if I made the cut or not🙁

So I finally got the secondary yesterday, and I was wondering how people were approaching the new question. Right now, all I have written down is that the most realistic thing I would do as a med student in that scenario is to notify the attending physician about my observations.

Submitted secondary today (7/22), marked as complete instantly. LOR received 7/20 (All LOR state science)

Not sure if this applies here, but I had an issue with another school's portal marking me as incomplete despite everything being marked complete. I emailed them to see if I missed something and they replied that it was an error on their part and they had to push my application through again. Might be worth emailing admissions if you've been incomplete for a while after submitting...?

Anyone else have their letter's uploaded, but they're all marked at science -- so application is still incomplete?

Ok, I tried reading through the previous pages but am still unclear as to what I should do.

My status says incomplete, but on the portal it lists my supplemental application received on 7/8, my supplemental application fee on 7/3, and my committee letter on 7/3.

What else am I missing?

Unfortunately, there isn't really a general consensus so far as to how to deal with it. A lot of us seem to be just erring on the side of giving them the full three weeks that the message said it might take, but I'n starting to think as time goes on we might just need to go ahead and contact the admissions office.

Same status here, will probably get fixed soon. Didn't have my lors marked as received till today.

For everyone who is fretting over the classifications regarding the letters, I called the admissions office earlier regarding that issue. Their admissions office said it doesn't actually matter if you have 2 science and 1 nonscience, you just need 3 letters from people who know you well from a supervisory capacity.

Their website says they only require 3 letters from people who know you well and can attest to your qualifications for becoming a physician (on their FAQ page). It doesn't say anything about who they MUST be from, or what category each letter MUST be. Yes, I know the supplementary says 2 science and 1 non-science, but the admissions office assured me the FAQ page is correct.

Hope this helps! If anyone hears differently from the office please let us know!

My issue isn't how my LORs are marked, it's that they're marked as received, but my application still says its status is incomplete

This is the same issue I'm having. Hopefully we get some clarification soon.

Yes, and I'm having the same issue. However, that's a separate issue from what I was addressing. I see a lot of worry in here regarding how letters are marked and just wanted to help people clear that up!

Ah sorry didn't mean to make it seem like what you were clarifying wasn't important! I'm just getting super frustrated with VCU. I feel like its just been one issue after another with them

No worries bud. I've been feeling a little salty regarding them as well... 😛

I turned in my secondary 7/9 and they have my LOR and it still says incomplete. I sent a message to them through their online system but haven't heard anything....

New status update...genuinely confused (see my last status update earlier in this forum and you'll see why):

"Your M.D. file is now complete. The Sub-Committee will now do a review of your application. Once this review is complete, you will receive a status update regarding your profile."

Odd rehash. Assumed I was complete long ago. Submitted as soon as their secondary was out, for reference.

just got my secondary ... am i really late? they received my application jul 10th

The prompt on the first post is incorrect, complete the prompt as it is on the secondary

According to my page, they received my supplemental application on the 10th, my fee on the 10th, my committee letter packet on the 7th, and it still says incomplete….Like I just don't understand what could possibly be the holdup.

to those of you who had LORs in but were still marked incomplete, I manually went in the portal and checked and now I am marked complete. I didn't get any email though regarding it.
Edit: was marked incomplete yesterday although I had everything in, FYI.

I've gone in and checked multiple times. It always says incomplete, even though it shows they've received everything.

Wait, never mind. It literally just changed between me checking now, and when I checked 10 minutes ago.

Guess now we just need to wait for one of those sub-committee emails.

+1 I am marked complete now too! Good luck everyone.. I wish the review process was faster 🙂

Got an email saying they are reading my app now

I just got that update too, and had submitted my secondary quickly as well. Oh well, it's progress at least!

anyone have these hold messages under their status?

"
Your M.D. file is now complete. The Sub-Committee will now do a review of your application. Once this review is complete, you will receive a status update regarding your profile.

Please note that your file may be put on hold for several reasons:

Hold for MCAT means that we are assuming you are scheduled to take the test. The Committee wishes to wait to evaluate your file until those scores are available. MCATS taken after September of the year of application will not be considered. If you are not planning to take or retake the MCAT, please notify us immediately.

Hold for Grades: The file review done by the Committee has determined that you are engaged in coursework which may affect their decision about whether to invite you for an interview. It is imperative that you submit grades for current or proposed courses in a timely fashion. Any file on hold for grades that are not submitted by January 31stwill automatically be rejected. If you did not take the course indicated on your primary or supplemental application, please notify us immediately."

My MCAT is in and i assumed that as long as i finished my one prereq (biochem) before matriculating it would be ok. Does this mean I'm on hold?

Also, biochem isn't a prerequisite unless you didn't do a second semester of orgo I'm pretty sure
