2016-2017 Mayo Medical School (MN) Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
@namaste08
I think they're gauging interest. Since second look is after acceptances (hopefully) then you can just say you're interested. The BIG thing is SHOW INTEREST!

Received an email from someone who interviewed me at Mayo asking if I was still interested in attending, and then asked if I was going to second look, and would rearrange times for me if necessary.... Is it rude to say I am only attending second look if I have been accepted? I can NOT afford to fly out there again just for funzies if I haven't been accepted! Why would they ask us to attend second look without an acceptance?
Who did you interview with? I wish my interviewers would contact me. I agree though waste of money if you aren't accepted.

In case anyone is interested, someone at the admissions office said that acceptances could be going out as early as this Friday, since the last committee review is this Wednesday, while WL/rejections would likely be a little later.
Looking at last years thread (as much as we can compare this year to last) they seemed to like to send out acceptances on Fridays so this does make sense. We will see if any are this Friday.

When I sent a LOI the admissions staff member who added it to my file said they were currently deliberating and might start accepting next week.
Did you send that in this week? I wish they would just start accepting. I mean many of us have been ranked for months now. If we were ranked poorly just tell us, it's not like they don't know if they don't want us.

Yeah this week. I do wish if we had little to no chance they'd reject. Hopefully we're in the running!

Well I was all excited that we might hear this Friday. To say I'm confused and anxious would be an understatement...

I am divided about when to send in a letter of interest. I am leaning toward not sending one in till initial acceptances are out. The reason is that since the LOI is supposed to be fairly detailed, reiterating what you like about the school and what you will bring to the school, I don't want to inadvertently say something that may hurt my chances for an initial acceptance. I sent an update recently and hope that conveys interest. What are your thoughts?

I'm with you. Never received correspondence (including encouragement email to send LOI message) since interview day except confirmation of Thank You mail, so I'll only send if I get waitlisted.

Hopes aren't high for acceptance here, so I'm waiting to get the axe.

Would mayo have communicated in some way outside of the ranked email if we were a likely candidate for acceptance (i.e. The likely letter, some other kind of personalized correspondence etc.)

No one can answer that currently.

TWEAKING OUT, y'all, tweaking. And my only foreseeable refuge to vent such tweaking is this thread. Apologies for past, current, or future pointless anxiety-filled posts.

I'm curious as to whether these "likely letters" ended up meaning anything

Has anyone called today? Maybe they know more about decision releases after yesterday's meeting?

Not for this cycle, but I did wonder if they had some history of doing stuff like that.

Last year I was accepted outright and did not receive any letter or communication indicating I would be accepted after my interview. I was actually expecting to be waitlisted or rejected, so when I got that call it was a very happy surprise.

Does Mayo call for acceptances? For some reason I had 3 am acceptance emails in my head. I had a strong feeling acceptances may be going out today. So I was expecting some posts here . Best of luck everybody. I am excited for all of you even if I don't gain an acceptance. This has been a long wait.

Yes, historically they do phone calls. You will get an email as well, but the phone call has always come first. FWIW last year my interviewer called me on a Friday evening (I think it was around 7pm-ish)

I was hopeful for today...but it seems like next week might be more likely? AHHH the anticipation is killing me.

"Friday evening (I think it was around 7pm-ish)"

I think we have some time left in the day. 😉

Previous years often posted that they had received an acceptance after 12:00 MST.
