Being from the Chicago area is actually hurting me here ouchThank you! And 3.6, 514 and decent EC's with some research too. Also, from southern/central IL.
I have a ~68 Lizzy M and I'm from Southern IL. Still waiting. A lot of things factor into an acceptance. Just going to have to wait and see.Being from the Chicago area is actually hurting me here ouch
Disbursements aren't until 2-3 weeks after the semester starts, so you will just have to call the financial aid office and let them know. They are used to this for lots of students who are accepted later in the cycle.Quick question, I have been fortunate enough to have been accepted to a few other schools. If I get into siu however I will be going there. My question is for the school that I am continuing with should I accept my awards (loans) even if in a couple weeks I may be accepted to siu? Does anyone know the protocol involving loans you accepted and then don't need?
There are some apartment recommendations earlier in the thread; otherwise, join the class Facebook to figure out where your fellow students are going to be living!I also received an acceptance Friday and am starting to look at at apartments in Carbondale, does anyone have any recommendations?
Based on their numbers from last year's class, it seems like it's closer to 70%.What's the percentage of people who get accepted from AWPA? I read somewhere it's close to 90% but that was from a while ago. I die a little bit everyday that goes by without an email from SIU 🙁
It was, but each year we get more and more applicants so the percent is getting lower. They don't let us know the exacts, but it is around 70% on average. All depends on who acceptsWhat's the percentage of people who get accepted from AWPA? I read somewhere it's close to 90% but that was from a while ago. How long does this go on for? Each person that gets accepted from AWPA now has 2 weeks to respond according to someone.Based on their numbers from last year's class, it seems like it's closer to 70%.
They have 1 week to respond now. And I believe we just assume by June 1st that movement is finished. How long does this go on for? Each person that gets accepted from AWPA now has 2 weeks to respond according to someone.
People who end up not being accepted, do they get some kind of notice that students are not being accepted anymore?
So pretty much in 3 weeks if we don't get accepted we're out of luck **sigh**They have 1 week to respond now. And I believe we just assume by June 1st that movement is finished.
There is an extremely small chance that you'd get notified after the first week of June. Its happened, but rare. At that point if you haven't heard anything, it would be smart to get a backup plan in the works. So pretty much in 3 weeks if we don't get accepted we're out of luck **sigh**
Just talked to Beth. She says historically the movement tends to die off around the beginning of June. Although very slow and rare, there could be some movement until August. And people still in AWPA gets a letter after the class has been closed in August. There is an extremely small chance that you'd get notified after the first week of June. Its happened, but rare. So movement is still happening?Just talked to Beth. She says historically the movement tends to die off around the beginning of June. Although very slow and rare, there could be some movement until August. And people still in AWPA gets a letter after the class has been closed in August.
Yes. She said there has been movement and there still is.So movement is still happening?
That's great news, congratulations. I know you've been waiting like 2 years but what were your stats?ACCEPTED.
Thank you so much! PM me if you want specific stats, but my LizzyM was a 68.That's great news, congratulations. I know you've been waiting like 2 years but what were your stats?
Someone posted they got accepted Wednesday, 6 days ago. Movement is still happening and will continue until slowing down by June.Long time lurker here, but just wondering if there has been any recent movement off the AWPA.
LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION:Sorry if this isn't related, but does anyone know SIU's LOR policies? I have been all over MSAR and the school's web site and can't find anything besides 4 being the minimum # of letters.
It's rare, especially considering we are a public school and Illinois hasn't had a budget since before our class even started school. Most scholarships are need based, with some merit based ones coming out through the year that she emails everyone a heads up about.I was wondering if anyone could tell me more about financial aid. I recently received my financial aid award letter which basically consisted of loans (obviously). I asked Leslie Fry about SIU's institutional scholarships, and she said those are usually awarded by the end of summer. Does anyone know how likely it is for students to receive an institutional scholarship and whether they're based on merit or need?
No way to confirm either way, unfortunately. A good rule of thumb is if you haven't heard anything by now, you should be getting started on a backup plan. There may be a few more acceptances here and there, but as Pasmal said, it's impossible to predict.Has there been any movement this week?
Question for ncklkrt and Pasmal. When I interviewed here a question I asked my interviewer what he thinks needs to be improved at SIU. He said that he didn't like the 1 year at carbondale 3 years springfield model. He then went on to explain why it started out this way. However, I would like to know why they kept it like this for so many years. What are the benefits to it? Thanks !
Not sure what their rationale is, though I suspect it has something to do with most of the basic science faculty being located at SIUC. Much more convenient to have us come down there for a year than have to have faculty traveling multiple times per week between Cdale and Springfield.
From a student perspective, I liked it overall. Moving twice back to back was kind of a drag, and we didn't really get to know most of the upperclassmen until we came to Springfield, but everything else was cool. Still kinda felt like college. That was kinda lame because BRUH WE ARE MS1s but it was good in that we could have fun on weekends without worrying about running into residents/attendings (happens frequently in Springfield). You get to know your class really well. So IMO it was a nice transitional year. Also the hiking/wineries down there are awesome.
The faculty thing is what I figured. It seems like you are cut off a valuable resource such as the upper classmen and some other opportunities at the medical campus. Would you say it was a major distraction to move to springfield your second year. What I mean by that is did you feel like it was almost M1 all over again trying to find a place and not really knowing the area very well. How long did it take you to adjust in M2? Thanks for the input! 🙂
Accepted today! I know there is a Facebook page for the entering class, who adds you to that?
