I think you're right. I'm probably just thinking the worst. lol what time are you interviewing? No, i'm not :/ I'm taking my GRE Wednesday in Dallas at 1:00pm and last time I finished around 5:00pm at about the same starting time. I won't be able to make it in time unfortunately. :/ Hopefully I'll get to meet you and everyone else during the oriention portion prior to interviewing, i'm doing the afternoon one!
My time is at 11. Does that mean I need to be there for the morning orientation or I can just come at my time? I wasn't clear about that.

Good luck on GRE @outofdaloop

Hey for those of y'all that are interviewing at Texas State this Friday, do y'all feel like we might get grouped interviewed? They're interviewing an awful lot of people all in one day so it's been on my mind. If anyone has any info about it being that way in the past, I would greatly appreciate it.
I interviewed there last year. They are individual interviews with a faculty member and a clinician from the community.

What I got from the email is that if you're interviewing early you can go to the orientaition at 8:15am, but you don't have to if you don't feel the need to. You do however have to be present 30 minutes prior to your interview if you choose not to.

Thanks for the input! How did you feel about the faculty and school when you went? And did the clinician ask you any questions too?

They actually do a little segment at the beginning of the orientation where they introduce all the faculty so you get a little information on them. The faculty were nice and the school was great, but for me personally it just didn't seem like the right fit. The clinician did ask questions, especially in response to something that you say. Overall it's a pretty typical interview. Don't feel as though you have to go to the meet and greet or the orientation. The orientation lasts like 30 minutes and then you're just sitting there waiting for your interview time.

@outofdaloop Good luck on your GRE !!!
I'll attend orientation in the morning before my interview at 9am!

@latissimus dorsi if you can't or don't want to attend orientation (at 8:15), you just need to come 30 min before your interview, so at 10:30.

@nd_dpt thank you for the insight !! Why didn't it feel like the right fit if you don't mind me asking ? Are there things you didn't like about the school?

Also I don't know if you guys know that Texas State's PT program is moving to Round Rock, probably the following summer. I had talked with an advisor and she told me that if we get into Texas State this year, we might do one year in San Marcos and the last 2 years in Round Rock.
Anywoo, I chose a morning interview time so that in the afternoon I can have time to drive to Round Rock to check out the campus, I think it's about a 40/45 min drive from San Marcos

Also, I meant to post this earlier, but it completely skipped my mind!

I know some people on this thread haven't heard back from the schools they applied to, and read about people getting interviews or even getting accepted when they haven't heard a word... and it ought to be tough :/ I just wanted to share some encouragements. Until you receive a rejection, don't lose hope, ESPECIALLY if you interviewed and got put on the waitlist. Every year, there's always those couple people that get off the waitlist days before school starts. Whether you get accepted now or in August, you will all be sitting in the same class so the most important is the outcome.

Maybe some of y'all received rejections and are looking at applying to new schools with later deadlines, or thinking about getting ready for the next application cycle.

This video by SDN member @Cheezy89 is very encouraging and might bring hope to some of you!
His first time applying he was sitting at a 2.6 cGPA and received 4 rejections. His second time applying he got into his top choice MGH IHP, which is a great program in Massachusetts, and actually one of the the top 10 PT school in the nation according to grad-schools.usnews.

The bottom line is, don't underestimate the power of determination, especially if you know that you know that you know that you were meant for physical therapy.
Best of luck to everyone!

I can't really explain it but it just didn't feel like it was the right place for me. I didn't feel like the professors were excited to have us there, where as other schools I really felt like they were happy to finally meet us. I also had a friend interview there on the same day as me and her questions were really personalized from her application and mine were super generic so I wasn't a big fan of that. It may be different for you though! I ended up at UTMB which is definitely the right place for me!

I think they probably received more applications this year because of joining PTCAS so I don't think the number of interviewees would have decreased, so maybe it stayed about the same of slightly increased?
But I don't think they are doing group interviews though since they had us call to schedule our times, it sounded like it's going to be individual, but I could be wrong.

Yes I'm going to the meet and greet! What about you?

I will be at the meet and greet! And my interview is at 1:30. Hoping its not a group interview

Interviewed yesterday with @latissimus dorsi !
However it seems like we had different questions, but overall I really liked the interview. I felt like with other schools the interviews was more of a "show us why you want to be a physical therapist" whereas this one was more of them trying to figure out if I would actually be a good physical therapist. I really liked the two professors who interviewed me and they were very good about giving me feedback on my answers such as "that's a really good answer" etc, so that was really nice.

But that school is F.A.R y'all. Like I already knew it was far, but actually driving there ... it was far, far! Lol

Anywoo, good luck to everyone interviewing there!
Tell me about it! I came all the way from Georgia to come to school here! I get it tho 🙂 not sure if I met you on fri but good to hear you enjoyed your experience!

@steveyk Oh wow, that's a long way away from home!

Not sure if we met! I was the black girl in the front, lol

I was wondering: Did you get any additional scholarships other than the Carr scholarship? I was wondering if the school had any other good scholarships that PT students can add to their scholarship package.

Not sure if this has been asked on this forum - folks who interviewed at UTMB already - what is the format and duration? What kind of stuff did you get asked? I'm looking to prepare for the 12/9 interview date.

Also, did anybody on here apply to UCA? Just accepted the 12/2 interview there.

For Texas state interview: Does anyone know if I can attend the afternoon orientation if I have a morning interview? I'll be there closer to the afternoon. Otherwise, does someone want to take a few notes for me? 🙂 please?

I don't think we met! I was the Korean guy, hard to miss LOL. And I got a grant (TPEG) one semester but did not apply for nor receive any other scholarships. I do know there are other scholarships that TPTA and various organizations offer, so I'd look into that! Either way, ASU is probably one of the most affordable programs in the country! Anyway, good luck!

I feel like they should. There's no way that they filled up all there spots from 2 interviews with only 30 people.

Yeah, I wonder what criteria they strongly take into account when deciding for interviews. I know they get a lot of applications, so having to drastically condense it to just about 100 makes me wonder what they really want to see in an application. I have a friend with 3.9 Overall and 4.0 prereq GPA, 400+ hours of observations in 4 settings and had glowing letters of rec and even she didn't get an interview.

@RiceOwl02 @outofdaloop they have another interview date on Feb 3rd!
I understand that, but you were offered with the October 21st date. So I'm thinking they will send out another round of offers to fill up the Feb. 3rd interview, since you were originally offered the Oct. 21 date if that makes sense.

Was not sure if that was previously missed in the forum.... Just hoping to give some answers about their next interview date that is VERY far away from now. I would not think the Feb 3rd interview is full because their deadline has not passed, and will not pass for another month. I also think there will be another interview after the Feb 3rd date.

Good luck to everyone at the Texas State interview tomorrow!!!!

For those of you who are going to the dinner tonight for Texas State, please fill me in on how it went! I would really like to hear about y'all's experience.

So I have an interview at Texas tech Dec. 2 at the Odessa campus. For those of you that have already interviewed, do you have any suggestions and what type of questions should I expect?

Just a heads up, I just got an interview invite today for UTSW on January 9!

And I recently got an email back from UTHSCSA after attending early interview saying that I did not get accepted in early decision, and my application is now in with all the others to be considered later!

Be prepared for why you want to be a PT, why you chose Tech, and an answer in regard to conflict. Be prepared to have a dialogue with them. It's more of a conversational interview. Have questions for them as well, build up a good conversation.

I got an Angelo State acceptance. I adored that place. I'm so happy! Has anyone else heard back yet? They said they will tell people by Monday, or next Friday, or February so fear not, if you haven't heard yet. I want to know what everyone else thought of it who may attend.
Congrats!!! What kind of questions did they ask you if you don't mind sharing?

@latissimus dorsi yayyyy congrats !! I got into ASU as well! I think I am going to decline though! I loved the interview experience, but I don't think it's the best fit for me.

@outofdaloop, the meet and greet last night was AWESOME! For the first part, we were all in the lobby, and first and second years were hanging out with us and we could ask them anything and eat. Then for the second part we went in the amphitheater and they had "10 things not to do during your interview tomorrow", but they did it as a comedy skit and it was really funny! In between every other skit, they would have one or two student come tell us about a topic. The class president went first and told us basically to be ourselves during the interview, a guy talked about managing stress while in PT school, a guy and a girl talked about commuting, my favorite was this guy that talked about maintaining/prioritizing relationships while in school.
After that we watched a video that looked really cool except the sound wasn't working.
When the presentation was over I left because I've been running on no sleep and I have a morning interview, but there was more opportunity to socialize. It was very fun!

That sounds so cool! I'm a little upset i didn't go now lol what would you say really impressed you about the school yesterday? I'm really trying to gain a sense of the school and hopefully i'll be able to make it to the orientation in time today since i'm coming from Dallas.

Ah, that commuting talk would have been good for me! Do you remember where they drove from/if they said it worked well?

Yes please. Do most people live on campus/close to campus? How does the bus system work? Do people have a car or mostly walk/bus?

Ah, that commuting talk would have been good for me! Do you remember where they drove from/if they said it worked well?
They said they commuted from south austin and took I-35. The main guy talking about it said there wasn't usually traffic, but then he also mentioned that he would come at like 5 or 6 am and stay until 7 pm soo thats probably why. But they also said that a group will usually carpool if you are interested in that

@webulu , for the UTMB interview,it was very laid back and conversational. You're separated in different groups and that determines the order of what you do that day. The interview is one on one with a faculty and there wasn't any questions that surprised me. There is also a focus group! It's you and your other group members with a DPT student and you have a prompt in front of you and you have to discuss together to come up with the answers to the two questions at the end of the prompt. It's a case study type thing. And the dpt student is quiet the whole time and just takes note and at the end we debrief, it was very interesting and I liked it.

@outofdaloop what impressed me about the school? Honestly I kinda thought Texas State was my first choice, but this interview is what sealed the deal for me. Were you able to make it to the morning orientation in the end?
Basically we had breakfast in one room and it was kinda like a meet and greet again, students are walking around the room and you get to sit down and talk with them etc. After that we went to the room next door and that was the faculty interaction and I loved how it was set up! The professors were on one side, the students on the other and one by one each student came to introduce 1 professor as in an award ceremony introduction type of thing but with some personal touches and good humour, I really liked that. The two rooms we were in were actually the two main rooms you spend most of your time in as a first year so it was nice to sit there and get a feel of the room.
This interview weekend was different than any interview I've been too and the relationships between the SPTs and the professors, or even between the SPTs themselves looked very genuine and intentional.
I also really liked the interview although I thought it was the hardest I've been to because the questions were more in depth and it felt like a lot of questions, but it was a good interview. At the very end as I was shaking the hand of the clinician, she said she had one question for me and asked me about a quote that is in VERY fine print at the BOTTOM end of my email signature. It says "Fight for your education, it's the only thing no one will ever be able to take away from you." It's a quote from my dad and she was wondering who the quote was from and she said she liked it.
I was SO surprised. Like I said this quote is at the very bottom of my email signature and in small prints AND I have never emailed her, she's a clinician and doesn't even work for the school from my understanding. All in all I've only had about 5 email conversations with TxState and 3 of them were to the 1st year student we were assigned to before the meet and greet. So I'm thinking they have a print out of our email conversations in our files and they look at our email etiquette? I'm just so intrigued, ahah, if I get in that's something I will definetely ask lol

@latissimus dorsi most people live off campus, but San Marcos is not a big city so everything is close by. One of the guy that did our tour parks off campus and walks to the building, the other one has a parking permit.
Yes there is a school shuttle that takes you to different apartment complexes, and for the apartment complexes that are not included, they sometimes have their own shuttles.

@ClassOf17Whoop , yes @Mayadison basically summed it up. They both lived south of Austin and it took them both about 30min to get here.
The school actually has a commuter lounge in the LBJ student center called "Boko's living room". You can rent a blanket and sleep there, or you can sit in the couches and watch tv.
Both of them seemed to feel positively about the commute and they said they use that time to study (they record their muscle packet and play it in the car).

Sounds like an interesting interview. How many people total interviewed?

Does anyone happen to know how many faculty members were interviewing and how many students each one was interviewing?

I had my interview in the afternoon and I wasn't able to tour because I went to the restroom and missed my chance. lol The school was overall awesome. Everyone was genuine and really happy to be at the school and so was the faculty. They were very open about questions and approachable too! The interview questions were hard and I did get some scenario questions as well, but they were the type of questions in which i guess they could see how mentally prepared you are for PT school, and if you actually wanted to BE in the program. Not just interviewing because you got an invite. They seem to value the staff and students both there and really just want to filter in good people into the program that they know will add good heart into their family there at Texas State. I enjoyed my interviewers and they were really down to earth!

I agree with you! There were definetely some tough questions that made me pause and think.
I think compared to other schools they put a little bit more emphasis on the interview.

To answer your previous question, I don't have that info, but I THINK it was about 18 faculty interviewing so maybe ... 9ish students per faculty?

Could you share a bit more about the interview content? What types of questions, especially those that varied from the standard "Why do you want to be a PT?"?
