I submitted my secondary on 9/5 and have not heard a peep. Some people who have submitted after me have gotten "holds." Is it better to be on hold or to get the silent treatment? My status check on the portal says my app has been forwarded to the committee, but as for the invited an hold for interview, it says --

You're within the 8-10 weeks mark, so I wouldn't worry.

Any chance acceptances go out this week?
Not likely, I was in one of the first interview groups and the director of admissions said we shouldn't hold our breath for an admission decision at or around Oct. 15th. However he did say we should have an answer by mid November. I assume I'll find out sometime within the next couple weeks.

I interviewed last week and he said November 17 (so that goes along with your mid-November, just wanted to give you the more specific date, in case you hadn't heard).

gah =/ I am sitting here anxiously waiting for this school to love me. seeing all the other fantastic people on this site get acceptances around this time just compounds the anxiety of another month

II yesterday morning for MD and PRIME! Can't quite believe it but so grateful.

Secondary invite mid-September, submitted within 48 hours. OOS.

II on October 3. Wondering if someone who has interviewed can speak on whether or not the MMI was more conversational than presentation-like. I've read online that the 8min is more of a presentation, but after speaking with some people who interviewed at other schools with MMI they said it was set up more like a conversation with the interviewer. Thanks so much and congrats to everyone with a II and acceptance!

A little confused on what you mean by "presentation". Can you elaborate? It's more like you talking for a chunk in the beginning and then a back and forth.

Sure thing. You pretty much answered my question. I wanted to know how much we had to lead the 8min - if it wasn't supposed to be a conversation then I would have to make sure my initial thoughts/answer would fill the entire 8min. It seems like it's more relaxed than what some websites make you think. Thanks for answering!

No hold, no II, no rejection, nothing from UCSD after Secondary...submitted late August. Silence hurts so much.

What are the advantages to sending out initial decisions later in the year? Last year they sent them out the first days of November and now they're waiting till mid-late November. Most schools have sent out decisions this week.

My guess is it gives the committee more time to compare applicants.

I thought applicants weren't compared though? The adcoms on this site say that applicants are only compared to themselves, and if they're good enough (or reach a certain number of "points") then they are accepted. If they're near the cutoff then admissions will discuss them more.

You also have to consider that they are forming a class that they intend to be diverse and well-rounded, so they're comparing people to make sure they don't have a whole class of the same person. That's how they described choosing people off the waitlist, since it's not ranked. They pick people that they think will make the class better overall and aren't yet widely represented.

UCSD had somewhat of a late start to their interviews, and did not feel comfortable making acceptance decisions from such a small pool of early interviewees. The bulk of their pre-Oct. 17 interviews occurred in the week prior, so they wanted to make sure they had enough candidates, as well as the time to evaluate, before choosing students for their next class.

literally have heard nothing back...been complete for months now. C'mon UCSD, love me!!!!

Did anyone figure out where we were supposed to fill out the housing waitlist app? I found the one that says "Are you accepted?", where if you're not enrolled you have to be accepted to apply. They told us we could apply before we were accepted, so would you just mark yes and submit (which seems a little shady) or is there a different list?

Have any PRIME applicants gotten any word? Is PRIME on the same interview schedule as md?

Yep they've already scheduled at least 2 full interview days with prime applicants (there are 5 total, 16 slots each). And although it's different from regular md dates (less frequent), there will still be regular md students interviewing on the same date (I.e. 16 PRIME and 16 regular md on same date).

I got a II this morning. I'm very surprised because my stats are unbalanced and low for this school. LM 67 with high mcat, a masters and good ec with lots of service. No postbacc. Not urm but not orm either.
I think my secondary essay helped. I consider myself a decent writer and my second dream in life is to be a novelist. I wrote my autobiography like I would write a short story, a narrative complete with common theme/motif/symbolism, etc. honestly I only did this because I thought my chance at this school was so low that I might as well have fun and play to my strength. So those with less than stellar stats should not despair! Stats aren't the end of everything. Let your personality show!

Interview in Jan.

Were you on hold prior to getting the the II?

LM score of 61 got a II yesterday. secondary submitted 9-20. Who knew UCSD would show a non-trad like me some love!

Congrats!! I submitted 9/11 so I'm hoping for some good news soon

I submitted my secondary in July but was not put on hold last month-- do we know if this is bad news?

Coming up on 10 weeks here - was complete on 8/28 (applied PRIME).
Is the general consensus to call the office once this period ends?

Also, does anyone happen to know if they are receptive to in the area requests?

So general consensus is that decisions will go out Nov 17 even for people who interviewed in September? I feel like they told us early November, but I could totally be mistaken. Thanks!

I interviewed in October -- they definitely said November 17 for all of us.

Does anyone know if they accept Pre-II/hold updates??

For some reason I kept thinking 14th or 16th. I'm glad someone remembered the right day, so I don't freak out unnecessarily. Two more weeks guys!

For those who were interviewed and accepted, how long after your interview did it take to hear back?

Thanks!
and congrats to all!

So far this cycle no one has heard back yet. According to what others have said, the first date people will hear back will be the 17th of this month. Last year it was the 4th I believe. I interviewed mid September.

How did your interview go? ☺️
It was great. Very laid back. All the students were very approachable and friendly, and really made sure you got a good picture of what the school was like. I was in the first interview group, so that was nice. While the second group interviewed one of the other interviewees who was from UCSD took us on a tour. Beautiful campus.

So I have been waiting for a response since Early August. Should I give them a call or just sit tight. Do they do silent rejections?

For those who have interviewed, were you allowed to bring the prompt into the room with you and/or were you able to take notes?

Thanks!

There should be a prompt inside the room as well and you are given 2 min before going into each station to look at the prompt and take notes.

Any recommendations on hotels near the interview location?
I stayed at the Residence Inn -- super close to the school (maybe a mile) and only $100 per night (compared to everywhere else, that was a deal). The trip from the airport to the hotel was about 20 minutes.

It's been about 9 weeks since I've submitted my secondary, do you guys think it's okay to call admissions and ask if there's been a decision made on my app yet?
