2016-2017 University of California - San Diego Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
It's been about 9 weeks since I've submitted my secondary, do you guys think it's okay to call admissions and ask if there's been a decision made on my app yet?
UCs take a long time and I don't think calling the admissions office is going to speed up the process. What you could do is ask them about their timeline or something else

Hi All, I am not sure if someone already asked this but I completed my secondary application on 9/10 because my application was on hold for my MCAT score.

Today marks the end of the 8-10 week period. I have had no contact from the admissions office. I am not on hold and I haven't been rejected. SHould I contact the admissions office to find out why I haven't heard back anything?

Is this happening to anyone else?

I feel like you should maybe give it another week and then call. At least that way you can say that its been over 10 weeks.

I didn't call them, but I did send an email to admissions asking for an update/ITA request as I'm coming up on >11 weeks. I'm just gonna assume that they're still deliberating/processing apps or perhaps mine is just somewhere in the applicant abyss... Regardless, I'm interpreting their silence to mean - be patient.

Yeah, I've been complete for about 12 weeks. eep. (since mid august) -- confused why I'm not in the "hold" group..

The 8-10 weeks thing is totally outdated this year. If you call they;ll just tell you to wait a couple weeks. Don't even bother

For those who already interviewed, how long do you stay at each station? Is it 2 mins to read prompt and then 8 mins inside the room?

Yes that's right. They give you a warning when there's one minute left too.

Are the first round of acceptances still supposed to go out tomorrow? Brian told me that a few weeks ago, but I was wondering if anybody called more recently?

According to the e-mail he sent out today to those of us that recently interviewed, it got postponed to next Tuesday because several committee members couldn't meet today.

Email? Was that a recent interview? I interviewed in early October and didn't receive one.

Do you think they'll end up waiting until after Thanksgiving? 🙁

I hope not, I was banking on this week! I'll be nearby for Thanksgiving, so if they could tell us before....that would be great. Not knowing and being right there would be stressful. :barf::whistle:

Do you know if this only applies if you got that email? I interviewed last month and they should've already made a decision and just waiting for this mid-November date 😳

Just curious what day are you interviewing? Congratulations, I fell in love with the PRIME program.

Options were 12/8 or 1/19. Decided on 1/19. I am very excited about PRIME, looking for a host in the program now, but seems to be a long shot.

Also FYI to anyone interested, last PRIME interview day is 2/16

You are a godsend. Congrats on the II!!

Hey everybody! Haven't been here in awhile so just thought I'd see what's the latest going on. I see decisions will be sent out tomorrow good luck to everybody! I'm a current first year so if anyone has any questions I could help with feel free to send them my way!

It's almost 6 weeks since I created my UCSD profile; did people generally wait 6 or 8 weeks to get a secondary?

EDIT: making my question make sense.

Waitlisted. Expected, but this this one stings.
+1 I thought that was my best interview 🙁 now I am starting to worry about where this cycle is going to go 🙁

Waitlisted as well. I felt really good about it, so I was hoping for an acceptance. Oh well, now we wait. Just going to longingly gaze at the UCSD campus this weekend....

Same. Looks like theres a lot of waitlisting going on sigh. Anyone know prior year waitlist stats/movement?

I was reading last year's forum and I don't think anyone got off waitlist. but the previous year, I think they said 15-20 people got off. It varies each year and depends on the number of accepted students that take the offer.

Waitlisted. Anyone know how much WL movement is typical for SD?

The UCSD website claims that they pull 30-50 applicants off of the waitlist every year, but Brian told our interview group that more accepted applicants chose to matriculate at UCSD than expected in the previous year. Something like 4 people were taken off the waitlist last cycle.

He did seem to suggest that the adcom would be less generous in handing out outright acceptances this year to allow for more waitlist movement.

Put more people on the waitlist to improve waitlist movement HAHA
