I got one with a 507 and a low gpa but tons of experience. I know it's a little different than a 504, but UCSD really does pride itself on reviewing holistically and "not caring as much about stats", per the admissions person I spoke to on the phone before I sent in my app. It's such a crapshoot no matter what your stats/experience, so if you have the means to apply then I would just go for it!

Wrong UC lol

Thanks for your feedback! I have tons of research experience which I know is helpful for my application to UC schools so i might give it a try and see what happens with a 504 (28 old scale)

i know plenty of people with 28-29s that made it to MD schools and UC MD schools so there's hope for us!

I received an invitation for an interview yesterday! 🙂
Secondary received 7/11/16
Secondary submitted 7/17/16

Statements like these are misguided. Yes the school considers the whole applicant, but look at the matriculated MCAT averages. They're only accepting a very small minority of low MCAT scores to maintain an average like that. The other thing I dislike about this line of thinking is the innate assumption that somehow high scoring MCATers are inherently deficient in their personality/behavior/other aspects of application. That's just an irrational conclusion to jump to.

Nobody is implying that and even if they are why do you care? They aren't on the admissions committee. If you have good EC's you'll be fine, if you don't you might be in trouble.

I was not implying that anyone is deficient in their application, I was simply stating MY experience to try to offer some relief/hope to someone who is worried about their score (which I believe is the purpose of SDN as opposed to reading between the lines of everyone's posts). Yes, we all are aware that the low MCAT score acceptances are less common, but they do happen and that was my only point. To say that these schools ONLY accept low scores to maintain their average is a much more irrational and completely misguided conclusion to jump to.

Agreed. Think i've been spending a little too much time on here.

what is the general consensus on how long it takes after you submitted your secondary (assuming all letters were in beforehand) until you app was moved to under review?? TIA!!!

Seems like 1-2 weeks for people who submitted around July.

I submitted 7/14 and my application has still not been forwarded for review actually.

That's really odd. There doesn't seem to be much rhyme or reason to it, I submitted 8/01, am OOS, and am not a great applicant, and I've been forwarded for review already.

that's great, I wish you the best!
and I agree, I've long given up trying to figure out how admissions committees make their decisions or how the process works. just trying to not be neurotic and hoping for the best. 🙂

Hey guys this is my first SDN post! I received a II on 8/1. I have an mcat score of 509 and gpa of 3.5 scienceGPA 3.4-something. Pretty avg. extracurriculars. I honestly don't know how I got a secondary let alone an interview, not my only interview offer by the way. I hope this serves as a beacon of hope for people with similar stats as mine.

Congrats! I am IS too and hoping to get some love. If you don't mind sharing, when were you complete?

Thank you! This does make me hopeful! I have a lower uGPA, but good GPA with a Masters degree (from a UC). I have good extracurriculars and have done a lot since graduating from undergrad so hoping this helps balance my not so great GPA from undergrad! How long after your primary was verified did it take for you to receive a secondary? No secondaries from any of the UCs for me, and been verified for a month now - making me slightly nervous.

I got my secondary from UCSD about 2 weeks after verification, UCI/UCD/UCSF a couple days to a week after verification, but still no word from UCLA...
I've heard the UC's are notorious for taking a while with secondaries-- I wouldn't be too nervous yet, it's still early.

So my primary was verified on 6/13, I received my first UC secondary from Davis on 6/28, SD on 7/8, Riverside on 7/11, Irvine on 7/15, and SF on 7/25. Just patiently waiting for UCLA, if it ever comes 🙁

Thanks for the info! This makes me feel slightly better since my primary was not verified until 7/15. And I'm sure it will, it's still pretty early so I wouldn't worry yet (especially since you have already received some secondaries from the UCs). If only I could take my own advice....

Has anyone who applied MD/PhD had their application forwarded for review? I've been complete since 7/14

If I apply to one of the programs and not accepted am I still considered for the normal md?

Anyone know how heavy the screening is...secondary received today lizzy m 74 complete 8/12

How long after out application has been forwarded to the committee for review should we expect a decision on interview status?

congrats!! do you mind sharing your stats/LizzyM? I sent my primary on 8/15 and still waiting to hear back with some good news
My stats are pretty average. But I am a nontrad, years of research and publications, strong emphasis on underserved, unique experiences, and a very high SMP GPA.

It says anything up to 8-10 weeks on the website.

Um... I was forwarded to the admissions committee, and I just logged back in and now it says "--" again. It said yes for a few weeks. Should I call them?

Same here. I would wait it out..might just be a system error

I called them earlier today and they said there's a glitch in the system and that they were tweaking it which caused it but mine was forwarded that Friday like it had said earlier. They said to give it a couple of days and it will go back to yes

just noticed my app is forwarded for review. if that helps!

just got the SSN email, how long should i expect to wait for a secondary?

For me it was 3 days. Received request on 7/18 and got secondary on 7/21 after being verified on 7/12. However, I am not 100% sure if the people that get the SSN receive secondaries. Others may be able to provide that information.

^ For me, after I have input my SSN into the portal, I received an Email the next day asking me to create an account. Once that is all done, the committee will review your application to see if they will grant you a secondary. Well, that was the message that I got from them. I got the secondary 1-2 day following that. Hope this helps.

anybody get back "Yes" after a glitch in the system "Yes" to "--"?
