2016-2017 University of California - San Diego Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
On the hold party! Wanted to visit the west coast again...it's so nice/beautiful over there, but hopefully in January!

Anybody completed July or August and DO NOT put on "Hold for Interview" yet?

On hold as well 🙁
Glad I'm not the only one... I feel like the likelihood of getting out is pretty small, surely they must have tons of great applicants and acceptances by late January

How California schools make me feel

Also on hold....super bummed. Does anyone know if the rumor that UCSD doesn't prefer its grads is true? I'm also curious about the likelihood of getting an interview after a hold. Also, does anyone know if UCSD holds you does it mean your chances for "harder" UCs are shot?
There were at least 3-4 people who were from UCSD at my interview, so about 10%. The MS2s that met with us were from there too. So it's not a death sentence to be from UCSD.

Oh wow, how many interviewees are usually there in one day?.. or are we talking about students?

I'm gonna say 3 or 4 haha I interviewed this week as well and half of the student tour guides were from UCSD. Lots of Cal and UCLA graduates too (unsurprisingly).

Also placed on hold today :/ Complete 8/21, IS

So far the latest of everyone who has posted complete dates with a hold is 8/21, has anyone else complete after that been placed on hold?

Complete 8/31 here and no email or portal change yet.

I submitted my secondary 9/8, also got the hold email today. :/ not surprised but still lightweight disappointed lol.

Interview invite this afternoon! Way, way OOS. Interview is not for a couple months which seems strange...

Also curious if anyone actually gets rejected. Maybe they put almost everyone who gets a secondary on hold :/

Not sure about this year, but I know quite a lot of people who were rejected last cycle without a hold (post secondary).

Anyone know how many acceptances SD sends out in relation to the number of interviews they conduct? I.e. if you get an interview, what are your chances of acceptance?

I'm being held as well. It's nicer to think of it that way...

Typo! lol 3-4. There's about 32 each day. Sorry for the confusion, y'all.

I was hoping for good news/updates by the end of this week, and I got this, lol. It looks like they've been collecting these holds for weeks and sent it out in one massive depressing batch

At least we can now all be disappointed together?

On hold. At least I won't feel the sting of rejection from them until past January.

Yea, it feels better knowing that strong applicants on here got on hold too. I'm rooting for you btw, I've seen you on all the UC threads! It's pretty miserable for applicants in our state

Thanks! Rooting for you too (really like your username/profile pick). Only in California are you more likely to get into other state schools than your own -_-"

According to the most recent MSAR they interviewed 542 IS (91 matriculated) and 208 OOS (31 matriculated).

^ Matriculation isn't acceptance though. Most schools accept many more than matriculate. There's a reddit thread out there that supposedly has the interview/acceptance numbers from US news

But they offer more than 91 IS and 31 OOS acceptances, right? (taking into account students who would decline and attend a different school?)

Yep. In general, the number of acceptances offered is typically doubled the number of matriculating students. Though not sure if that's how it is at UCSD.

submitted my secondary 9/11
no hold email/portal, no II

anyone else in the same boat who submitted around the same time as me?
